    New Hayward/flow controller??

Just setting up a new Hayward EC40 filter. It came with a "Flow Controller" but no instructions. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use it?? I have a very vague recollection that this is for certain situations.

    FC levels and trichlor

I'm just curious . . . Assuming my pool water has near 0 PPM of CYA, and I chlorinate using trichlor tabs, will that chlorine that is bound with CYA, be stabilized enough to maintain FC levels through a sunny day? I was just wondering, especially when opening a pool, insted of adding CYA I could...

Cat walk deck, skimmer basket access

Hey, Wondering if I could get a couple of tips. The access to the top of our skimmer/basket is blocked by the 18" cat walk decking around our pool. As of yet, I have not figured out an easy way to add DE to my filter when needed. We've been adding DE to a bucket of water, making a gruel and...

    Cya. Testing vs, reality

Hi: I'm aware that we should not trust the accuracy of our CYA measurements till at least a week after we add stabilizer, but is it effective as soon as it's in solution? Thank you.

    Adding DE after backwash

Okay, I have to ask. I know the conventional wisdom on this sight is to add a percentage (haven't looked up the number yet) of the required DE after a backwash. Seems logical. It's obvious that all of the DE will not leave the filter after a backwash, but should I override the instructions of...

Low water level after winter close. . .

Hey; We're about to remove the pool cover after a tough winter on our above ground pool. Haven't found the cause yet, but it's obvious that the water level dropped way down over the winter. I have 2 questions pertinent to this: How low can water go down before the liner is considered damaged...

    Dispose of unused bleach

Well a very cool end of Summer and we decided to close the pool. Wahw! But after best estimates, I have two gallons of 12.5% bleach left over. How should I dispose of it? My neighbors are not interested, you know, pool schooled.

    Is this Polyquat-60?

Sorry if this is out of line. I am ordering a new pool cover and I thought while I was at it I'd order some Polyquat 60 for when I close the pool. Does anyone know if this is PQ-60? I can't find the ingredients listed or get a close enough shot of the item photo. "Pool Supply World...

    DE filter, pressure dropping

Hi: This is a first. After I backwash/recharge my DE filter the pressure has always run, for years, between 10 - 11 psi as long as it's clean. But now I've noticed that it's been down to 8 the last couple of days. I've recharged it, cleaned the baskets, checked the weir, all is clear. The...

    Adding DE

Am I missing something? I have a DE filter below the water line. I have a cat walk around the pool which blocks access to the top of my skimmer. How do you add DE after a backwash going through the skimmer door? Sent from my SCH-I405 using Tapatalk 2

Cya, wait a week before testing

I understand it takes up to a week after cya is added before we can test reliably but how long till the product is actually working once dissolved? If I added enough product to raise my cya to 40 yesterday, do I now chlorinate as if? Sent from my SCH-I405 using Tapatalk 2

    a smidge harder. . .

I believe I can say the pool is now open. I had a little more difficulty this year than last. Seems my cover became porous over the winter, rain water/snow melt raised the level back to it's original height and a lot of "dirt, dust and debris" was settled on the bottom. The water was a good...

    Draining pool cover

Can't seem to figure this out. My cover is too heavy before draining it. I've been trying to siphon water off the top but the cover is sitting on the pool water and it has a few small holes in it. The more I keep draining, the more it fills up again. I'm stumped. Sent from my SCH-I405 using...

Can't figure out CYA and Trichlor

HI: I've been using the TFP method of pool care for near 2 years now and have had great results. Three times I needed to use trichlor tabs for vacation purposes. I had raised my CYA to 40 ppm early in the season using dry CYA, and expected my numbers to rise after said vacations. That's my...

    Chloramines and CYA

I'm a bit curious. We know that our levels of chlorine are determined by the amount of cyanuric acid in the pool and this also effects the amount of chlorine to use for an effective shock treatment. But when it comes to straight use of chlorine to break down chloramines is CYA a factor. If I...

Hey: First opening with BBB, initial results (TF-100): CL-0 pH-7.5 TA-60 CYA-40 CH-100 Water was very clear but there was a "dust" on the bottom so decided to shock. Added 11/2 gals 12.5%, added 4 lbs of baking soda. CL-15 CC-0.5 pH-7.5 TA-90 etc. Water is sparkling clear, everything seems...

Remove metals from pool before cl

Hey: Do I remember hearing last season that when I open my pool, if I have a lot of metals in my water (I do), I should put something in the water before adding CL? What is that? When should it go in? Where do you recommend I purchase it? Thank you, Happy New Season Everybody!!!

Polyquat, will it unused potion be good for next year?

Hey: I'm thinking of getting some polyquat 60 to winterize our pool. If I dose to directions, I'm going to have a bunch left over. How good does this stuff do sitting on a shelf? Would/should it be fine for next winter as well? Thank you.

    Swimming near shock levels

OK, I've become more comfortable with understanding and swimming in water that now has, what would have been considered, high chlorine numbers relative to my CYA level. My CYA is at 50 and I maintain my CL level at 4 - 8 ppm. Still get scared sometimes though. But another question comes to...

Add too much FC reagent for FAS-DPD

Will adding to much 0871 (FAS-DPD reagent) throw the results off when I add the 0003 (CC reagent)? I was testing for FC and after 10 drops the solution APPEARED clear, but I wasn't sure so I added another drop. There was no change and then I checked for CC and got a solid zero.
