2nd backup pump in parallel with 1st. Do I need a 3 port on both inlet and outlet?

Yes, this was my concern. I don't really have the space for the check valves without rearranging more of the plumbing. I've decided I will add the actuators to the 3 ways, but will keep the switching of those actuators as a manual activity. I can then visually verify the valves have moved...

2nd backup pump in parallel with 1st. Do I need a 3 port on both inlet and outlet?

A very fair question! Pump1 is a single speed 3 phase pump that I run from my UK domestic single phase supply using a commercial inverter motor drive which gives me fully variable speed which I have integrated into my home automation, along with all the actuator switching for solar, ASHP, etc...

2nd backup pump in parallel with 1st. Do I need a 3 port on both inlet and outlet?

I have a 2nd pump plumbed in parallel with the 1st. The 2nd pump is smaller than the 1st. I only use 1 at a time, and I manually switch both 3 port valves to block off inlet and outlet of the pump not in use. My question is, If I want to automate the switching between the 2 pumps, do I need an...

Moving pump and filter below water level. What valve arrangement? How to cut new return into vinyl?

Hi, current setup is Ball valve on skimmer inlet, ball valve on main drain inlet, 3 way motorised neverlube valves to divert water to Solar matting (hosepipe in the sun). ASHP. Heat exchanger for gas boiler. Solar matting will be above water level on the roof. Valve will be below water...

Moving pump and filter below water level. What valve arrangement? How to cut new return into vinyl?

I have a 32,000l vinyl pool in the UK. It is 12ft x 24ft x 4ft. It is built on sloping ground, so one end is in ground, and the other is above ground with a retaining wall. There is a 6ft wide patio deck all the way around the pool. The pump and filter are 1ft above water level on the uphill...

Heat pump vs electric heater for a UK pool

Definitely use a solar bubble cover, otherwise you'll lose all the heat overnight. Particularly in May and Sept when the air temperature is in single digits overnight. We lose 3 deg C overnight even with a solar cover. The heater will draw around 2.5kW judging from the COP on the spec page...

Heat pump vs electric heater for a UK pool

I have an 18kW heat pump, probably similar style to the one you are looking at. It cost about £2k last year. In reality it adds approx 12 kW heat to the water, as calculated from flow rate and temp increase. so 1/5th is more like 1/3 to 1/4. This is still cheaper than gas and much cheaper than...

What type of tubing for liquid chlorine (bleach) feeder?

I bought a condensate pump (Aspen universal) for an AC unit for £15. I did not change the tube within the pump at all. I then used 2 sizes of PVC tubing, the larger to fit onto the pump hose barb, and the smaller to fit into the injector. The pump and pipe are not in direct sunlight. I used...

Upgrade filter - how to change inlet and outlet pipe spacing?

I'm upgrading my 16" side mount Lacron filter to a 24" side mount. The new (to me) filter does not have a multiport valve with it so I am planning to re-use my existing one. The 24" filter has the inlet and outlet 3" further apart than the 16" That means I need to extend the filter outlet drop...

repair/replace perished pipe connecting solar manifold

I have a Solarmatt black hose pipe solar heating system which uses clear flexible 1.5" pipe and jubilee clips to connect the manifolds and to the pool plumbing. The company seems to no longer be trading. The system is now about 4 years old, and the 1.5" flexible pipes have started to leak even...

    Valve Actuator - UK?

To update this thread in case anyone else in the UK is looking for a 3 way valve. I ordered a Jandy Neverlube 3 way valve from a US ebay seller who had reasonable shipping charges to UK. I ordered an Intermatic valve actuator from a seller on Amazon.com (not amazon.co.uk). Again the shipping...

    11% Chlorine + brass corrosion

I installed a DIY peristaltic pump, and have had problems finding stainless or plastic fittings that wouldn't corrode. In the mean time I'm using these fittings (6mm to 4mm adaptors). They look as though they are made from brass, and are corroding inside, as expected...

    Valve Actuator - UK?

Finally got around to testing the 2 port irrigation valve, and as a valve it works fine... However, I have plumbed it so that when it is open it "shorts" the solar heater feed and return pipework. Unfortunately I only get a small flow rate through the valve when open. The path of least...

Considering DIY peristaltic pump, where to inject?

Yes, by injecting into the multiport I am upstream of the heater, and possibly the sand filter and I may change it at some point. My gut feel is that the slow feed rate of 0.1L per minute for a couple of minutes shouldn't cause problems. Happy to be corrected. Nice job on the 90 deg elbow.

Considering DIY peristaltic pump, where to inject?

Quick update. I didn't have to drill and tap anything as the injector valve actually fitted into one of the two 1/4" screw threads on the multiport valve which normally take pressure gauges. The Aspen peristaltic pump unit-normally used to drain condensate from AC units works well, but needed a...

    What stain is this?

No, not yet. I tried placing a tablet on a stain and leaving it, but the stain didn't go. I did use copper based algaecide when closing the pool last winter (before I discovered TFP) so wonder if it is from that. Not sure what to try next. I haven't tried the crushed vit C tablets yet though.

Considering DIY peristaltic pump, where to inject?

Right, the UCINJCE has arrived - thanks for the pointer BR. 1st issue is that the thread does not go all the way up the shaft so drilling and tapping a normal 1.5" pipe will not work. I was thinking of drilling and tapping into a coupler like this one http://www.1st-direct.com/1-534;-abs-pl ...
