    Need help finding leak

I patched it and the water level in the pool seems to be holding. I glued some vinyl "samples" from my local pool store to reinforce the area around the skimmer. I applied Goop (silicone adhesive) to both sides of all 3 gaskets of the AquaGenie and sealed it up.

    Need help finding leak

The AquaGenie skimmer was indeed leaking. Found a steady drip: I drained the pool below the skimmer, took it apart and found a crack in the middle of the orifice plate (high pressure return). My local pool store has the gaskets on order so I'm waiting for parts. That ended up being a good...

    Need help finding leak

Yes, I turned off the pump for 24 hours. The water difference inside the skimmer is shown here: I don't see any cracks inside the skimmer. I can't really see around the mouth of the skimmer, nor under the weir door. I tried to remove the weir door but it seems to be jammed in there pretty...

    Need help finding leak

I could use some help finding a leak in my semi-inground vinyl pool. It's losing about 150gal/day with the pump running. As per this Leak Detection article, I've run a few tests. I've sealed off my skimmer and only return (an AquaGenie) and tracked the water loss in the vessel and in the...

    AquaLamp pool light leaking

I decided to take a shot at it. Drained the pool and took the lights out. It seemed to be leaking from around the gaskets. There was quite a bit of rust. Sanded down the rust and sprayed some tremclad. Got new gaskets, faceplates and mounted them with some RTV sealant. Hopefully it lasts

    AquaLamp pool light leaking

I was disappointed to find out this morning that my pool's water level had dropped 2 inches overnight. Did some investigation and it seems to be leaking from my AquaLamp pool light. Is this something I should/could attempt to repair myself? Or leave for the pros (who could also hopefully...

    New pool owner in Canada

I got a TF-100 shipped to a warehouse in Ogdensburg, NY (myusaddress.ca) and picked it up on a trip from Ottawa to Toronto. They do have a push-it-north service if you're too far from the border

I did not leave them out. Good idea, thanks!

Is it normal to have algae continually dying? My understanding is that once it's all dead (passes OCLT) that should be it, no?

Yes that's what I thought but I've been brushing every day and vacuuming every other day. It keeps coming back

Yes. See pics. A few rocks fell in as I used them to help place the leaf cover over the winter. I couldn't see the one in the deep end when I started the SLAM. I vacuumed last night at 1030PM and the black spots are back now at 1230PM It can't be black algae because the pool is vinyl, right?

After almost 2 weeks of SLAMming, my pool has finally passed the OCLT. I've gone to mustard shock level. I know it's probably not necessary but since I'm already close figured it can't hurt. I'm bothered by the fact that I continue to get what I think is dead algae on the bottom. I've been...

Yes. I understand that the error of the test is +/- 1 drop and should scale linearly. So the normal method error is +/- 0.5ppm. Testing with 5mL would be +/- 1ppm and testing with diluted 40mL would be +/- 2ppm. +/- 2ppm at the shock level I'm expecting (20ppm) is 10% Is my math correct...

That works too. I figured it would be harder to work with such a small volume. Would the method I suggested also work to save even more (4 times fewer) reagent?

    New pool owner in Canada

Well, it failed the OCLT. FC dropped to 18ppm. I thought with such a change in water clarity that it was done. Algae are sneaky. Is it possible to save on reagents by doing the FAS-DPD test with 10mL pool water mixed with 30mL chlorine-free water? So now to get the final ppm I would multiply...

In that case, would it makes sense to just add some pH reducer now? How do I "watch for scale"?

    New pool owner in Canada

Thanks. That makes sense. I had adjusted the pH (with test strips) before starting the SLAM. Is there any reason I couldn't just complete the SLAM, return to safe (swimmable) FC then test/adjust the pH?

I finally got my real test kit. I'm having trouble making out the pH. The colour is purple. I think that means it's above 8.2? Can anyone confirm? Picture is attached. Here are the other results: FC: 24.5ppm CC: 0.5ppm CH: 200ppm TA: 110ppm CYA: 50ppm I've been adding LC all week...

Great this is really useful, thanks! Should pin this somewhere. The ones I bought say "4 0669 14:44". So I guess that means packed Feb 5, 2019 at 14:44. 3 months old. Might be useful to track the next sale Any idea what the starting 4 means?

How can I tell the age of the batch? Is the stuff on sale right now super old so they're trying to clear it out? Yeah Lowry redirected me to them. Just got a quote today: 1 x K-2600 - $158.20+tax (22ml Bottles) 1 x K-2600C - $282.35+tax (60ml Bottles) Part of me really wants to avoid doing...

    New pool owner in Canada

My local hardware store (Canadian Tire) has 5L of 10.8% bleach/liquid chlorine on sale for $5.19 ($0.010/mL at 100%), normally $6.49 ($0.012/mL). I've been watching bleach prices at various stores and this is the best I can find. I understand high% bleach has a ~6month shelf life so I'd like...
