Time for a new test kit - TFP Kits

I've been using my LaMotte for a while and with the help of this forum, it's been pretty good. The regents are now old and I'm looking to refresh my kit, but it seems it's gotten a little more complicated since the last time I checked! TF-100 TF-Pro TF-Pro SWG Am I missing something? If I...

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

Circling back on this thread. 45 days in, my panel showed "No Flow". No error codes, just no flow. Here we go again... 1. Check the filter, pressures good. Cleaned it out. 2. Check the flow right after pump, 60 gpm good. 3. Check the flow downstream right before salt cell, 50 gpm, good. 4...

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

Just an update, I started with the sensor first. Purchased online for $100. Plug and play, the entire system started working after that. I then took apart the old sensor to play with it. After stripping the outer insulation I found a break/short on the internal wires. I reconnected the...

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

I was able to recalibrate and it reads 2.8 now in test. Added salt, 144 is gone as expected and my salt level is 3.2gpl. Water temp from the water heater read 64F today, but the AquaPure is showing LO and does the temp fluctuation from 35-40 still.

Ok so 2.8 is the calibration bar essentially and use the kit for confirmation. In the previous post it was to use the test kit as the calibration bar

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

I did a drain and fill at the end of the season last year. So the majority of the water is new/fresh water from my well.

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

The pool was built in 2017 and in operation since then. It runs typically April/May until September/October. No obvious damage. The wiring looks good, no kinks, bends, or rips in the wire insulation. The two metal plates on the sensor are shiny and clean - no discoloration or buildup...

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

Thanks James, this is very helpful. What's the * on the 2.8gpl for? I ran the tests as indicated. Salinity read 3.3gpl Pool Temp read 74F H-Temp read 91F The H-Temp is right on, the Pool Temp was 1F off and the Salinity is way off. So based on that it seems I may have a failed board right?

Help with Aquapure - 144 / No Flow / Fluctuating Temp

Just started up the pool and have been running it for about a week now. Most of the pool is in balance except for the salt; which I'm waiting for the temps to climb a little. Right now she fluctuates between 55-65 as the outdoor temps are still low. She's run perfectly fine for several...

    Self-Align Eyeballs Removal

Hi, Does anyone have any advice on how to remove these? The eyeballs themselves unscrewed but I'm left with the self-aligning part that's stuck inside. I'd imagine I have to remove them to complete the winterizing to plug it up.

    Pool Pump Sizing

I took a couple of ranges. The numbers were slightly different from yesterday, but that may be how I'm reading the gauges. Pressure gauge is in 2PSI increments, flow gauge is in 10GPM increments. 1035 RPM (30% Flow) = 10 GPM @ 0 PSI 2070 RPM (60% Flow) = 25 GPM @10 PSI 2415 RPM (70% Flow) =...

    Pool Pump Sizing

So I took the advice and upgraded up instead of down. I went with the Affinity AVSS3 and replaced the impeller with the Jandy 2.7 instead of my current Jandy 2.0 impeller. I also replaced the seals. The VS is significantly more quiet, but I'm not getting the flows I was expecting. At 60%...

Is it too early to open in New Jersey?

Get it from Lowes or Home Depot. Home Depot sells 3 packs of HDX liquid chlorine.

    Pool Pump Sizing

It might have been, but I didn't keep it on the bypass loop so it's going on the normal loop at 60GPM @ 33 PSI right now. It's not doing anything useful, which is why I want to tune it down to 50GPM with a variable speed pump. I've got an electric cleaner. No spa. No water features. Just 3...

    Pool Pump Sizing

Thank you for the explanation. After some efficiency upgrades to reduce head loss, my 2.0 currently pumps out 110GPM @ 15PSI directly out of the pump when I'm on my bypass circuit. It gets restricted down to 60GPM and PSI skyrockets to 33PSI when it goes through the filter, heater, solar, SWG...

    Pool Pump Sizing

I came across this when I was searching the forum about VS pump sizes. Is the reason for going with the full size just for simplicity and future-proofing? I get that I can always turn it down, but if a 1.65hp VS motor is half the cost of the 2.7hp VS motor, would it make sense to step down...

I did end up buying the whole set, then I found out. CMP unions fit Raypak as well. For future reference..

    Union Compatibility

Is there a reference chart somewhere of compatible unions? I have a Raypak 8450ti heater, the unions on the heater are in good shape but I need to redo the plumbing. The kits I'm finding come with the tailpiece and unions, which just seems like a waste since I only need the tailpieces. Hoping...

    Return Jets

I have a pool where the returns are 1.5” pvc outlets without threads. Ive been using these eyeballs, which are self-aligning. I’m looking to convert it to a threaded outlet so I can use a different type of return jet, as well as make it easier to close the pool - popping those eyeballs in and...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

It’s worth a try. My existing hot water system cost $2000 to set up for two panels, and it generates enough hot water for a family of 4 all year round and dumps excess heat to space heating in the winter. Break even on that was just about 3 years. This was even better at $1250 for 10 panels...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

I think you’re considering efficiency when I’m considering mainly cost. My 10kW solar electric system is only about 12% efficient at the panels. Then loses another 10-15% in transmission. In an area that’s 50% cloudy with less than 6 hours of full sun at peak, it doesn’t make sense on paper...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

Thanks for clarifying. So taking the Raypak 8450ti for example, it uses 42A @ 230V and generates 129,000 btu/hr on the low end. So it would take roughly 9.66kwh for 129,000 btu. Going along those lines. To run it for the equivalent 200,000 btu/day would consume 14.98kwh. Using a mid-grade...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

My pool builder has 36,000 gallons listed on my build sheet, that's what I put in my signature. I used an online calculator at one point that gave me the 4.5ft avg depth at one point. It's a 25x40 ft rectangular pool. 7x20 of it is a tanning ledge that's 1ft deep. There's then 3 steps down...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

They’re going to be mounted on a 12 pitch/ 45 degree angle. 960 sq ft, 4.5 avg depth Keep in mind that I’m going to be using this for domestic hot water and space heating in the winter when the pool is closed. Less efficient collectors are better at snow melting; which actually results in...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

I’m going to need a degree in thermodynamics.. I ran the btu numbers for what my pool needs, but it didn’t seem right. It was telling me I needed a heat source to produce ~450k BTU to heat and about 100k btu to maintain during peak (Rough numbers off the top of my head) But my pool currently...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

Indeed, but I don’t need much heating at peak. We’re pretty comfortable with the pool temps in July/Aug. it’s startup that’s taking a long time (1.5mo) that I’m looking to shorten. Can you clarify? I’m going to be running the pool water through 2” heat exchanger at 80GPM. I picked a 300k BTU...

    Solar Collectors vs Solar Panels

I work slow especially since I'm still very much an amateur when it comes to piecing together solar thermal. It will initially be a ground mount system. I have to build a shed, and the roof of the shed is where these panels will ultimately go. But that shed is probably a next year project. I...
