I just received the Taylor sodium chloride K-1766 test kit. I got a reading of 4000 but my Hayward board reads 3100. Can I determine which one is correct?

I just started using the pool math app and it calls for FC of 1-3. I downloaded a lot of docs from the pool school and in the "Water balance for SWG's" it says the target FC level is 4-6. When I open the app it say recommended FC 1-3. Do I just ignore this and change target to 4, 5 or 6? Dumb...
