Checking in to confirm how to use my manual air release valve

Hello Friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I know this is so overdue because I can't recall how to release air from my filter, and of course can't find any manual. I added a photo - I know the pump needs to be running, I plan to do this when the pump is running a bit slower. ( I know...

    Smoke in the water!

Oh man, @red-beard , looks like I dodged a bullet on that count... it would've been very disappointing to lose all the beautiful variations of the stone's color to a white paste. BUT... it should be a good point to research for anyone building a pool...sandstone is way too soft and erodes way...

    Smoke in the water!

I did have a chance to seal the stone at the time my tile was blasted clean... I'll shell out the $$$ next time. Aside from helping to reduce the sand, I'll bet it makes the stone look good too.

    Smoke in the water!

Ok, good to know. I plan to slowly bring my CYA down to 40 or thereabouts. But thanks for pointing out the basic ratio, a real "Aha" moment for me.

    Smoke in the water!

Thanks for your reply! I really failed to catch the ratio on that chart, and was looking at other info on an ideal FC range. OK, OK... off I go. And its OK to swim in a pool with an FC at 8ppm, yes?

    Smoke in the water!

Hello there! I was SO proud of myself... took the CYA from 202 to 50. Did a SLAM and once I got the same CHL reading overnite felt very accomplished. Now on balancing, I felt I was struggling some keeping the Ph down and CHL up. (In reading up maybe my water isnt really very neutral) Anyway...

    TA value and CYA?

Thanks @Texas Splash ! I think my profile says it, but Schertz here. Nice to meet you! I did revisit the pool app and I'm sure I will be able to use it once I have data to add. And I will absolutely not give up on getting more accurate with the CYA test. I donated to become a forum member and...

    TA value and CYA?

And thanks for answering my other questions too... I did refer to the FC/CYA chart. It just seemed that I heard so many different values for ideal and max CYA. I think the forum's pool school info says 40-50 ideal, 50-60 max... and then other people replying on threads had other numbers,.. AND...

    TA value and CYA?

Thanks! That makes alot of sense, and you're right there is a shell of plaster, so I should call my pool style plaster when asked.

    TA value and CYA?

Hiya, and good morning! Hope peoples still with me to weigh in. @Texas Splash , hope to hear from you, or any folks with big sun. I'm in the San Antonio TX area, and I've seen so many ideals for CYA level thought I would ask. So confession... I am using the pool store's value for CYA since me...

    TA value and CYA?

I downloaded the app, but I could not figure out where to start... and while I'm not a power user, I'm on a computer every day all day... I'll give it another shot...

    TA value and CYA?

OK, so makes sense... 1/3 of my CYA subtracted from the TA (134/3=45) - 120=75. So they want me to bring up the TA... and maybe I should, but seems to me that CYA level is causing all kinds of issues. Can't keep FC up, Ph hates me and threatens to go up... not sure what I should do first. They...

    TA value and CYA?

I have a bit of a mess on my hands right now. Did the pool drain to get the CYA down... I got a ways to go. Got my chem test kit and still unsure if I'm getting it right. My estimation is ~ 100 but it might be wishful thinking or my power of focus on that dam dot. So took to the pool store to...

Notice from a new kid to all you senior TFP members...

oh my, that never occurred to me... but I'm sure the minute I walked out the back door all that just vaporized... LOL!!! And of course, from my standpoint it was more like, well... because no.

Notice from a new kid to all you senior TFP members...

I got lazy (ok, and intimidated) and hired a service. I used them for chem-only, and there was another Pentair certified company that I used for any repairs. But a couple CYA locks and a revolving door of new and untrained techs just got old.... I figured I cant do any worse, right?

Notice from a new kid to all you senior TFP members...

Ha! I will certainly highly recommend this forum. Was at one of the pool stores to get some chlorine, chit chatting and mentioned the forum and how awesome it is. A weak, oh, yeah... then crickets.

I know, right? I'm not sure how I missed all those CYA posts, or the draining pool questions. lol! But you know what? I got answers just like it was the first time, and that felt good.

In browsing some of the threads to see if I can find answers, I've noticed so many similar queries, I mean SO many! I joined in 2019, but really just rediscovered it. Just want to say how amazingly patient and so helpful and welcoming everyone is. I hope one day to be so knowledgeable and...

Draining pool level to break CYA lock

Oh you bet! And thanks for the support! I got so tired of the revolving door of new techs, I made sure I was out there when they were. Caught one fella about to load the feeder and asked if he'd testing the water yet. Ummmm. Then there were the little things - finding the Polaris running around...

Draining pool level to break CYA lock

@JoyfulNoise - My pool was built in 2007, so likely the code has changed. I did read something about a dangerous port, but not sure why someone would be swimming in a pool when you're draining it, which seems to me the only time it would have a strong pull. I'll have to go back and look again...

Draining pool level to break CYA lock

Thanks so much for your replies! Sounds like the sump is a worthwhile thing to have handy, especially since this is the third time in as many years the Pool service managed to get me into this situation. But the info I read said the equalizer is there to prevent the pump from losing prime. You...

    Pentair EasyTouch Issues

Hi there! I have an easy touch too but I'm not an expert. I think I have the same config, a spa and pool with a water feature spillover. Are you saying the panel goes out when the spa mode is activated? And when the panel loses power you cannot get power back? I have separate valves for pool and...

Draining pool level to break CYA lock

After searching around on some of the threads I'm still not sure I'm about to do this right -so please forgive my novice question: I need to drop my pool water level below the 2 skimmers. (Plan to set the MPV to waste and use pump.) There's a drain hole under each skimmer inside the pool. I...
