Checking in to confirm how to use my manual air release valve

Hello Friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.
I know this is so overdue because I can't recall how to release air from my filter, and of course can't find any manual.
I added a photo - I know the pump needs to be running, I plan to do this when the pump is running a bit slower.
( I know the pressure gauge assembly is newer, not afraid of breakage... but I am scared of noise... lol)
Do I just loosen the knob on the left until air evacuates and then tighten when it starts spewing water?
