Trying to order the right amount of rebar in one shot...I find it easiest to sketch it with Fusion 360  Looks like the footing would be taken care of with 12 full sticks (20 feet each) and two 51 inch sections for splicing some gaps. All splices have at least 36 bar-diameters. Now to...

I do the same thing! Rock it to see which side has the crown and how bad it is. Problem is that lowes was so slammed that day and the isle was full of people and carts. Had to eyeball them.

I will say these boards are decent. Out of 24 boards, none are un-usable. Only ONE board got by my meticulous inspection lol...so the footing's gonna have about a half inch hump in one section. No worries, that'll even out after the first course of blocks go down anyways.

Nope! Lowes this time. Home depot wood has more twists and turns than a snake with an itch! 😄 🤣 😂

Here's where I'm at now. I would be done forming by now but a couple things held me back. One, it rained yesterday so that was a bummer. Two.... I really went overboard trying to dial in this footing. I found myself re-doing sections that were off 1/4" from where I wanted them and to be honest...

So, I just referred back to your build thread. Two things: It looks like you only had the one bonding wire, coming out behind the steps, is that correct? Also, I've been stressing a little about how my wall is going to be sitting on the edge of the footing, placing the load off-center...

8" thick, 24" wide. I could widen it at key points (the middle of the 40' spans, maybe) but I don't think I will need to. To be honest I landed on these dimensions from seeing what was commonly spec'd for house foundations in poor soils. I want overkill but I tend to go overboard sometimes.

Hey duraleigh! Glad to see you pop in again! Yeah I'll ask some professionals in my area. Most likely will get a few quotes for pumped concrete and I'll see what they all say. Two rows was the plan, as well as cross-peices of rebar every so often to tie it together width-wise as well. Then...

Thanks! I gotta work tomorrow, but I'll post an update on Sunday evening hopefully showing off some sweet form work! I need to order rebar... but I'm torn between #4 and #5. 5 is much more expensive, and certainly mega overkill. I should just order #4 but I can't seem to pull the trigger on...

OH MAN is it hot out! Got a layer of gravel down. I'm about to go compact that down into the mud and get a nice smooth, hard surface to work on. Just spent 500 bones on some 2x10 lumber to make some proper forms, and starting on that today! It's coming along. :)

Update time! Got the trench cleaned back out. HOWEVER, rather than move forward with footing form work, I decided to do a little side quest as an insurance policy against getting washed out again. I'll put up some bracing to hold the boards up, don't worry. Now I finally feel like I can move...

Alright well, we had several days in a row with torrential rainfall and I'm flooded again. However, the forecast over the next week is upper 90s and dry so I think the water level can drop back down. In the pic you can see where it is now. Also, notice I put up more tarps on the excavation wall...

Just trying to feed you guys little update videos when I can! Taking a little break and eating some lunch at the moment. Then I'm heading back out. Sorry for the poor video quality, I have the CHEAPEST samsung phone I could get and the camera is pretty low quality. It gets the point across...

Oh those! Ground stakes. It never even occurred to me since they sit so low to the ground but you're right, it could be dangerous.

Thanks! This type of feedback is so motivating and I really appreciate it! I'm glad you like the videos, I'll keep doing the little updates with them. Well, there's no rebar in it yet! But rest assured, I'll get the caps. Definitely not leaving something like that to chance.

Oh, I couldn't abandon this project if I wanted to! The hole is too close to my foundation 😆... Anyways, got a good amount done the last two days. It might not seem like much on video but it's quite a lot of earth moving to get the trench back into shape. I have to work today, but that's fine...

To anyone thinking about taking on a job like this. TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK. Don't be like me and try to do this yourself while maintaining a 50+ hour work week. I'm stepping away from my work to a large degree this year in order to focus on this build. Wish me luck! 2vv7Bf1xBU8?si

I did a "test run" with a shovel when I first started, just to see how much material I could move with an honest effort. It was laughable. What took me half a day with several breaks, the machine did in 5 minutes. And the tree roots... oh how satisfying watching those tree roots just pull right...

Oh yeah, keeping the oval was out of the question for me. Rectangle it is. Easier of course but also opens up tons of space.
