    Smell

I too do not have ANY chlorine smell. This may seem unusual, but try showering before swimming to remove excess body oils and sweat. Then get out after swimming for a bit and smell your forearm. Cheers!

What does your pool paradise look like?

Same here. According to my "thermometer", I do not even consider getting in until I reach 88*. 90* is even more comfortable. My solar cover makes it happen. I'm up 26* since the 27th of March. I do not like any "chill" being originaly from WI. So I DO NOT like the cold. ;)

O/B in Gilbert, AZ for 2nd time

I am a huge fan of the solar covers. I use the dark blue "Heavy" cover. I put it on 3/27/2021, pool was 58*. Yesterday evening it was 84* Even into summer, it allows me to maintain consisent average daily temeprature that is ideal to us. It also minimizes evaporation and chlorine loss.

Scraping Calcium, Does it Affect Chemistry?

Your calcium on your tiles tells you your CSI is too high (over +.30). If you get your CSI levels down to -.1 to - .2, you will slowly dissolve the build up. Then maintaining a "slightly" negative CSI will keep the build up away.

    getting the balance right..

My chlorine level barely moves now...due to cold temps?

I concur. I go though >.5 PPM a day. Last time I added 45oz. of 10% was 11/14/2020. It will last a week or more.

    CSI is good however ...

I do NOT have a SWG. However, I have added salt along with my Chlorine sanitation program. This fall my salt PPM tests just over 3600. That is the # I put into the CSI calculation portion of the App. Does this manual input for my salt and overall CSI overide the "assumed" 1000 ppm?!? Thank you,

THIS! IS the question. I will be very interested to see the answer.

    Chlorine usage high. Again

I found the same result with my conditions. With pool on north side of house and shade sails, I loose 3 ppm per day (June - Aug.) at 40 ppm CYA. 30 CYA is definately too low and the difference between 40 and 50 is negligible.

    Chlorine usage high. Again

OP, can you confirm that you are working with a true 12.5% CL? Even CL a month old stored indoors can loose potency.

    Moving to Liquid Chlorine Questions

OK. So why would you ask how much add? Daily losses in CL can vary depending on UV exposure. On a sunny day I can loose up to 3ppm. If its a bit cloudy (last few days), I can loose 1.5ppm. The the "daily" added amount can vary as much as 30oz. The real balancing act is the "Ideal" CYA level for...

What are these big chunks of pieces in pump basket

I totally agree that this "debris" is left over construction / plaster that settled in the pipe(s). That explains the color and shape. One side has the half moon curvature. Just took some time to break it loose and travel to the basket.
