New Guy From New Orleans Area!

My case is of the wanting to understand pool water care, doing it myself. The pool store for me was a bit 'IN THE DARK' never was sure why I needed so many kinds of chemicals. Test this week at pool store and put in this chemical, next week you need that chemical. Found TFP 4 years ago, got my...

    Purchasing chemicals, where?

My local Home Depot has 5lb jug of stabilizer ($20)and 2gal pack 31.4% Muriatic acid (can't remember how much) Lucky for me a pool store is 3/4 mile down on the street I live on. I get 10% 2.5gal carboys $5.15 out the door. Never really needed much else... never have to shock/slam, pool water...

How do I repair a large section of liner around skimmer box?

Yes the liner is still really nice, not brittle at all. I'll try and use a small patch on the outside of the liner to pull that tear back together. I'll look for some glue that is vinyl specific. I didn't think to do a double patch...good idea! Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks Chuck

How do I repair a large section of liner around skimmer box?

Hi everyone! I've been missing-in-action here (posting) on the TFP forums almost forever ...somehow life just took me over! My pool water has always been perfect since using this way of pool care using my old trusty TF-100XL kit (replenished over the years) When I built this pool (21'...

Using non-intex equipment with an Intex pool

Hi spoazzy1 and welcome to TFP! :) For sure you can do it!! I did it! Made my Intex into a more normal pool (vacuum system too!) and very easy to care for and using BBB methods taught here. Make sure you have a good test kit too! :hammer: See here on how I did mine, my posts start...

    Frustrated By My Cloudy Pool

Oh, pH is ok for now, as it's fine to start a shocking process with close to 7.2 rather than 7.8-8.0. TA is fine. I run mine at 100.

    Frustrated By My Cloudy Pool

Hi again, :) I would redo your CYA test today in full sun with your back to the sun and make sure you mix and let stand 30 seconds and mix again then add to CYA tube. You also could do the test with 50/50 of tap water and CYA reagent, then double the result. CYA test are harder to do at close...

    Hello all

Hi skygremlin and welcome to TFP! :) Out of all that spending, I didn't see your Snap-On tool! Well, I do mean a TF-100 test kit...It is the Snap-On tool of the trade here at TFP. If you don't have one yet, go here to read about test kits: pool-school/pool_test_kit_comparison Get...

    Intex Ultraframe 16ft x 48" pump/filter conversion & more

Re: Intex Ultraframe 16ft x 48" pump/filter conversion & mo Hi freebird1963 and welcome to TFP! :) Yeah, I did the cutout of the stock Intex fittings mainly because mine were the older style to put in the Hayward ones. :goodjob: Read all about here with some others that did it like your...

    Frustrated By My Cloudy Pool

Me too! 8-) Mine is a 72" expandable with a deep center, what I now know after doing this install myself, I would dig more slope to the center and go 6' 4" as this liner was very expandable and wouldn't have been no problem to do. Chuck

    Pool Newbie

Hi JRA410 and welcome to TFP! :) Looks just like my starter pool... a 15' x 48" Intex frame pool! I got it setup in April '10. It was my first experience with pool care, just shocked it, though it was fine, got green, got it back with the pool store testing, but was never happy with it, never...

    Super cloudy water/phosphates/tried it all/HELP!! :-)

Hi Bonbon5 and welcome to TFP! :) All of the advice you will get here will most likely go against pool store advice. The key to success is your own test kit. You WILL be the master of your pool then and the pool WILL do as it told to do with proper chemical additions, filtering and brushing...

    paying it forward

When in a hurry... don't skimp on the chlorine, never let it fall below shock value. Overdose by a couple of ppm to maintain any losses that may put you under your CYA shock value. When I shocked with 40 cya, I used 50 cya on the chart, long work days were setting me back with a sand filter...

    My first test results

Hi Edn35, :) My understanding with AGP, (not Intex ring pools) a full pool is 6" from advertised. Yours is a 24' x 52", would be 46" full. This is 3.83 FT In the Pool Calculator I get 15200 gallons. In my case with my 21' Swim N Play, I had to work with figures and results because mine is a...

My Battle with the Green Abyss

My Battle with the Green Abyss

Hi again, :) I would maybe add just a little more chlorine at dosing time and shoot for 12-13 ppm, you don't want to let the chlorine level EVER fall below your shock value. (will give you a little safety margin if your CYA is slightly higher than 20) Chuck

CYA... is this the right stuff I have now?

Hi VegMaPa and welcome to TFP! :) Ok, don't panic. Putting in bleach is your problem solver as long as you have chlorine in the pool, it will be fine and we can work on the total balance over time. It does look like the sunblock is right CYA. (thanks to J20832!) Use the pool...
