Choosing a cleaner and fixing the booster pump

I think I found the parts, any chance you could verify? Seal Model PS100, 5/8i Inch Shaft Replacement End Bell Gasket Arneson Pool Sweep, A40 If replacing those doesn't work I'll look for a new pump. For less than $12 I figure fixing is worth a shot! Are these things hard to replace? I've...

Choosing a cleaner and fixing the booster pump

Thank you. I've had my eyes on the 280 as it seems to be higher in price everywhere. I guess the older design is still holding up! Is it worth replacing the gasket and seeing if that fixes things (if I could even find one)? For a new pump, is 3/4hp enough? Do they still make them vertically...

Choosing a cleaner and fixing the booster pump

Getting tired of manually cleaning the pool and looking to get a pressure-side cleaner. Is the 280 still the standard? It's what I used to have but I see a few other models now (360, 380) that are belt driven and otherwise different so I figured I check to make sure I'm getting one that will...

    Draining in wet northern California

These just never seems to do the trick with the depth of my pool. It goes down to about 10ft so I lose a lot of leverage, and if I extend the pole to reach the other side it makes it even worse.

    Draining in wet northern California

I've never considered this option before! My hose wouldn't be able to keep up withe the rate of expelling water. Anything to watch out for if I give this a shot? Also, won't this clog up the other little filter? I may have to take a picture as I'm not sure what it's called.

    Draining in wet northern California

I suppose the main reason is to get to get better leverage for debris/leaf scraping out of the deep end. Using the vacuum in the past has taken forever, as it clogs up quickly. Was just trying to get the pool back to clean as fast as possible! I haven't even taken a full reading yet, but if it's...

    Draining in wet northern California

Attempting to get my pool in order. It's very dirty (although I have bleached it back from worse) and draining it at least half way would be a fast way to get a jumpstart on spring. My concern is the water table right now. With all the rain we've been getting in Northern California I'm concerned...

    Chlorine Pricing and Questions

So I just went down to the local OSH to buy some normal $8 for 2-Gal 12% and to my surprise saw $1 bottles ($2 buy one get one). Seemed like a good deal and from my basic algebraic equation I could make I thought was worth it. But now that I'm home and see how low this brands concentration is...

Drained plaster pool and it's hot out

I tarped it up, the fill took a lot longer than I thought. I suppose the tarp may have just provided comfort. Trying to get as many years out of this pool as possible, though I feel it's on its last. After ignoring it for the last nearly 2 seasons! So I've been SLAMing the pool since about the...

Drained plaster pool and it's hot out

I started the drain around 8 and began refilling at around 1 am. I thought the refill would go a lot faster as of now, 10am, it is only about a quarter full. I didn't drain completely, left about two feet, where there was quite a bit of sludge I couldn't get to or pump out. I've read all the...

    Water Flow Stopping Mystery

it usually runs clean at 20. 15 after a backwash pre DE. It stopped bouncing it had never done that before.

    Water Flow Stopping Mystery

water is nearly clear, it's still a bit cloudy coming from being green. It has been this color for 2 days now though. The pressure gauge is literally bouncing between 27-30.

    Water Flow Stopping Mystery

So I followed the instructions and soaked my grids. I ran it for a night then backwashed as per the instructions and everything appeared to be running great, perfect pressure and everything. A day later the pool is running at high PSI again, (bouncing between 27-30) and the returns aren't...

Use and care for DE filters

Is this ok with the plastic manifold they are all attached to?? I didn't do this in the pre soaking of TSP if that might matter

Use and care for DE filters

So I followed the instructions and did pre soak in TSP and have it now soaking in the acid wash. The biggest bucket I could find was a 32 gallon trash can, which left about 4/5 inches of the grids unable to be soaked as the trash can isn't tall enough. Will this still be sufficient?

    Water Flow Stopping Mystery

Thanks for the direction you pointed me. I think the last algea outbreak over the winter is probably clogging up my grids. Gonna follow the instructions and clean it up. Will post results after

    Water Flow Stopping Mystery

I'm bringing my pool back from a swamp, as I have before (with help from this forum) and having a strange issue that has never happened. After two days of running my filter the water has gotten nearly clear, but returns are only flowing for about an hour then they slowly slow down to an eventual...

    Numbers after CYA adjustment

Thanks duraleigh. I tested the FC loss with a TFP kit, using the 'within .5ppm' instructions. I will test the overnight loss again at .2ppm to make sure things are good. I realized my FC was too low (junk DPD kit is not accurate at all!) and I upped it while I upped my CH.

    Numbers after CYA adjustment

Ok that makes sense anonapersona! So what kind of drop should I expect/shoot for on a normal day to day basis now? I get full sun all day btw. I got my FC and CH up to par btw, current pool numbers: FC: 7 pH: 7.6 TA: 90 CH: 265 CYA: 54 When I added the calcium I ran the pump for a couple...

    Light Bulb Replacement

I removed my light fixture today and took some pictures of the fixture. I wanted to get TFP's advice before I take it apart as I don't want to spend money on a new fixture or anything, I just want to replace the bulb. It appears to be a Underwater Laboratories Purex 100-3. I only found one...

    Numbers after CYA adjustment

The pool is up to a warm 75f today and it looks like my numbers are finally after waiting a week for the CYA to settle in: FC: 2 pH: 7.6 TA: 90 CH: 140 CYA: 54 The pool gets direct sunlight all day and from sundown at 7:30pm last evening until just now at 2:20pm the next day FC has only...

First time testing - safe for kids to swim?

From what I have learned the salt is nothing to worry about. If it is low it will just mean a bit harder water; salt should be around 2000ppm or a bit higher. Your pH, TA, and CYA seem off. Retest and report back, but you should be ok to swim. Salt content won't hurt anyone.

Received my chlorine kit from TFTeskits

I was so excited when I saw it in the mail. My girlfriend thinks I'm a dork and obsessed with my pool ever since I started browsing this forum. I'm really impressed by the speed they shipped this kit. Ordered the kit on Monday, received it on Thursday. Just performed my first test with it and...

    What if your colorblind

I too am red color blind and can usually test everything with confidence besides pH which takes a bit of concentration and sometimes another opinion. I find testing at sunset works the best as the sky is a neutral blue and no shadows are cast.

Ok everything is just about perfect with the BBB BUT........

Not to hijack this thread, but would it be safe to swim while adding borax? Also, is the proper way to add borax just to spread all around the perimeter?

    First Spring Numbers

I got up early enough and did a FC loss test and passed as accurately as my DPD chlorine test can be. The FC is also not being lost to the day's sun, that CYA I have in the skimmer must be acting fast! I also checked the pH and it is up near 7, I poured in some more borax to get in near 7.5. Are...

    First Spring Numbers

Ok I left the CH alone. I put about 4lbs of CYA in some socks and threw them in the skimmer. I didn't have any more socks to use but poolcalculator says I need about 8lbs. I have the CYA just no more socks for now, is this ok? I also poured in 156oz of Borax (2 boxes), about half of what I...

    First Spring Numbers

Sounds good. Also, can I combine all the steps together or do I need to do them separately? What I mean is can I add borax, calcium chloride dihydrate, and the CYA all at the same time? And about the TA, won't the raising of the pH raise the TA a little anyway? I'm thinking 70 might be ok, my...

    First Spring Numbers

Well with summer just around the corner my pool is nearly ready to open. After about a week of vacuuming and sweeping daily I've finally removed the 20 or so pounds of DE that was on the floor and the water is crystal clear :whoot: From this point on I plan to take of my pool using the BBB...
