For anyone that runs into this, the Pentair 340044 is NOT a drop-in replacement for a Jandy PHPU2.5. I had to completely redo the plumbing. That said, the plumbing was very easy. Getting the 2-speed switch to go in the pump... that's another story.

Does anyone know if the Pentair 340044 2HP 2 speed motor is a drop-in replacement for a Jandy PHPU2.5 2HP motor? Trying to decide if it is worth hiring a licensed installer for the extended warranty. Thanks!

This is the reply I got back from Pentair: 'As long as the pilot screw is going into the main port for bonding the light it will work fine and it being installed at 3oclock will not hurt it.' Would definitely like to know how to test for proper ground.

Ah, that makes sense now. I'll start out by replacing the outlet. However, I'm not certain that'll fix it because my pool light is hooked up to the same outlet, and it gives me no problems. But, the outlet is old.... so, won't hurt to change it out. Thanks for the advice!
