    Algae in Umbrella holder

With all that aside, I don’t think I have noticed this being advised, but maybe we should suggest to verify CYA levels again if only the OCLT test is failing out of the three SLAM tests. I believe the CYA “black dot” test is very picky and difficult to determine exactness compared to a...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

Well decided to conduct an experiment to see if I could replicate the scenario after some things were known to be true. One truth is my pool is no longer “fighting” anything. I passed the OCLT two nights in a row. Another is my CYA is now down to 50 after I refilled the drained water. PH is...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

Will do. Read in another thread about FC/CYA ratio that anything over the SLAM amount you end up with loss to UV (not my case for OCLT) or self-extinction. Is “self-extinction” potentially a good reason for why I kept losing the same amount both nights? Post in thread 'CYA/FC Relationship...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

So I tested my CYA again as I’ve drained off a couple inches just to see where I’m at…tested around 70 now. Made sure to test it twice. We had a couple rain events, but don’t see it dropping CYA that much from little bit of overflow or my pool full schedule since the 28th. Either way, it has...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

Correct, I’m going to replace my high CYA water with tap water. Thanks for the tip on the weir foam; didn’t think about that one either. On the “High FC and algae” response…are you saying I’m dropping that much overnight partly because my FC is so high? Should I run the OCLT starting at a...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

Think I will take your suggestion and run with it since I’ve been SLAMing for two full days now and spent $100 on bleach already. Should I be circulating the water through water features also? I took the eyes off my bubblers and didn’t see anything in the plumbing since they are in close...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

I wonder if that is why I’m at 0 CC and the water is crystal clear, but I’m still failing the overnight test. I’ve been checking and adding bleach every 1-2hrs, 4hrs at the most to keep FC high, but still losing 5-7ppm overnight. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter how high the FC is, if you lose...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

Thank you guys! Guess I never put two and two together that the indicators for successful removal of contaminants would also be an indicator of their presence 🤦🏼‍♂️ Also wish I would have not just bumped up my CYA for the season. Sitting at 90 right now even though my last addition should have...

    Algae in Umbrella holder

One last thing I wanted to ask…is it normal to have a FAS test come back with 0 CC with this amount of algae?

    Algae in Umbrella holder

So it will be ok that it’s getting sucked into the filter to stay until I clean it out again at the end of the swim season or even start of next season? I’ve only been doing it once/year since gets light use and have a robot vacuum.

    Algae in Umbrella holder

TLDR; Do I need to extract the algae so it doesn’t spread or get in the filter or do I just start with a SLAM? I noticed my SWG not keeping up with my chlorine needs lately, however, I didn’t see any clear results of a CC test indicating an issue, so figured it might need descaling. Got on...

Texas Freeze...Epoxy to fix slightly cracked 3-way Valve?

:) True! But, two of them I removed from the monstrosity that the pool builder made of my plumbing and were my attempt at removing glued pipes, so they have seen better days and not something I would feel comfortable selling. If I use one of the new ones to repair my broken one like Newdude is...

Texas Freeze...Epoxy to fix slightly cracked 3-way Valve?

Oh believe me, I know this is a band-aid, but since it is only the valve that controls which water feature to turn on (waterfall or beach fountains) and not the main valve that diverts to returns or features (top valve in pic), then I feel more comfortable being able to keep eyes on something...

Texas Freeze...Epoxy to fix slightly cracked 3-way Valve?

After looking at some of the damages fellow Texans have shared on here, I first want to say I'm glad everyone is well enough after that ordeal to be able to reach out to the community for help as I'm sure there are worse things we all could be dealing with. I know I have "lucked out" with what...

thanks for the response...yes I added it as a slurry.

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Pressure is still 7lb low when on high from where it used to be. As slight as it may be, it looks like I am still getting some DE returned to the pool. I do not winterize the pool in my climate so pump was still running 2-3 days a week. Here are my measurements as of this morning though: FC -...

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

It is back together. I’m pushing the DE around to try and get it pulled back into the filter but also have my robot vac running to help expedite the process. So right now the water is cloudy and hard to tell if it’s staying out of the returns or not.

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Didn’t even notice it says 6lbs...I’ve just been following the DE box. Not sure how much of the 9lbs I have in there now since a good bit is spread around the bottom of the pool, but should I rinse and start over?

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Thank you for the info and I have re-attached the mesh to the center pipe. Also, the most valve is part# 261050

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Thank you for the info. I saw that the plastic part of the mesh had inner threads but didn’t see anything to screw it down onto, but I guess it was meant to just be a friction fit on that center pipe. It is now slid down on the center pipe. Both old and new boxes of DE media I have say for a...

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Jim, Thanks for the info on this one. True as it may be I’m still curious as to what caused my drop in pressure even before I opened the lid if that’s not it... I have it set to Fi I do not have a sock on the center pipe nor do recall one the previous two times I opened the filter housing...

DE on bottom of tank and not on filters

Short synopsis: - noticed 7lb drop in filter pressure with no change in media - had a couple instances of alerts on my SWG for low flow - opened and cleaned filters then recharged with 9lb of DE slurry but pressure still low from norm. - DE repeatedly deposited on bottom of pool after cleaning...
