    Borate test kits in Australia?

Thanks for thee replies. I have most of that stuff already, except mannitol, the indicator, and speed stir. Why do you need a speedstir? Why is it so useful for this test compared to other titration testing.

Where do chloramines go during superchlorination?

I am trying to understand what happens when you shock the pool with chlorine, e.g. during the slam process. Where do the chloramines go? My understanding is that adding chlorine converts the NH3 to mono, di, and then trichloramine. What then? Does the trichloramine simply evaporate away?

    Polishing Pebblecrete?

Yes the bottom is all dirty from just being grinded. That stuff comes off easily with a gerni. It’s just the wet dust from the grinding. It forms a sludge. You wash it to the deep end use a shop vac to clean it up. Then I did an acid wash to finish it off. Here are the steps area. I did these...

    Polishing Pebblecrete?

Here’s some pics of the process. Once finished and acid washed it looks similar to the other pebblecrete, except slightly lighter as there is more exposed white cement.

    Polishing Pebblecrete?

I just ground the steps and the shallow end. I did about 40m2 all up in a day. I couldn’t be bothered with the walls and deep end, as you don’t tend to stand there. I used 125mm diamond cup grinder and a 100mm 50 grit diamond pad for the steps, and a 180mm diamond cup grinder for the floor. The...

    Pebble plaster mix?

CA_Tallguy, it doesn’t generally need to be waterproof. It just needs to stay in place. If it’s a small area like that it’ll be easy. Cut some slots into the concrete with an angle grinder and it won’t fall out. I spoke to pros about waterproofing first and they told me if I do that then I can...

    Pebble plaster mix?

The type and shape of pebble makes a huge difference to how it feels. A lot of the white “pebble” is crushed quartz, which can be quite rough as it hasn’t been thru as much rolling/tumbling as river pebbles. The natural pebbles are generally better as they’ve rolled down rivers. Smoothest is...

    Pebble plaster mix?

Since my post I have pebbled our spa myself, and had our pool professionally repebbled, and watched two pools get pebbled. The spa worked fine, and I was considering doing the pool, but it would have taken me too long to do myself. I didn’t add colour but it is common to add oxides to white...

It was the cell. I replaced it and it’s working properly again.

Aks35 faulty. Is my cell dead? Are cells interchangeable?

I think you're right that it's the cell. I removed it and had a closer look. The internal faces of the plates have lost much of their coating. I will try a new cell.

Aks35 faulty. Is my cell dead? Are cells interchangeable?

I only cleaned the plates last week, after it started playing up. The self cleaning feature has always kept it clean. Pool is about 50,000L. I’ve always runs the chlorinator in the range of 5-50%. I run 12 hours a day on low flow pump. I adjust the chlorination throttle depending on the...

Aks35 faulty. Is my cell dead? Are cells interchangeable?

I can take the cell to the pool shop. How do they test them? Is there any way to see if a cell is failing? What are the symptoms of a cell going bad? Will something be corroded? What actually happens when a cell “wears out”? Is it literally something disintegrating? The plates look good on...

Aks35 faulty. Is my cell dead? Are cells interchangeable?

I have an AkS 35 chlorinator and cell. About 5 years old. https://poolandspawarehouse.com.au/poolrite-aks-350-salt-chlorinator-retrofits-all-aks-enduro-surechlor.html Recently it started showing lower Chlorine output, and pool chlorine levels have been dropping. It won’t go above 3 bars out of...

    Polishing Pebblecrete?

Yes it does. I experienced that just doing a small part of the spa. It's no big deal. A hose down washes it off. You wouldn't want to put it into a clean pool!

    Polishing Pebblecrete?

We recently had our pool redone with Pebble Sheen. It's rougher than we'd like. I'd like to polish/grind it to smooth it out a bit. I did a small section in the spa (which I can drain) using a diamond polishing pad on an angle grinder, and it worked quite well. It results in a terrazzo like...

Magsalt (Magnesium Chloride) turned pool green

This is my problem now. My calcium tests don’t work. The clear choice labs test doesn’t work anymore, nor do the bunning hardness test strips (which were always a pretty good match for the clear choice test). What do I do here? I put 25kg of magnesium chloride into our 50000L pool

Why clean cartridge filter at +25%?

TFP recommends cleaning your cartridge filter when pressure rises 25%. What is the logic of this? I've tried this and the filter isn't very dirty. The filter cake hasn't built up properly yet. I clean ours at around +100% (e.g. when risen from ~60kPa to ~120kPa (9 psi to 18 psi).

    Low alkalinity bad for plaster?

Traditional recommended levels for Total Alkalinity are ~80-120. Trouble Free Pool has a lower recommended range. E.g. for our pool it recommends 60-80 with recommended minimum of 50. I would rather run at the lower end (50-60) as it keep pH much more stable, however I am concerned of it...
