UK Hot Tub Start up for Spring!! Very High CaCO3

I thought I was getting confused :-) So I have a test kit that measures KH Alkalinity. I added 15 drops of something (Sodium Hydroxide?) and it turned from blue to yellow. The box shows a diagram of the procedure and a calculation at the bottom. The calculation on the side says 1 drop = 1DH...

UK Hot Tub Start up for Spring!! Very High CaCO3

Happy new season everyone (for the UK anyway). I've just filled my 1000 litre hot tub with fresh tap water. I live in an area of hard water (limescale). I've taken a reading and have a CaCO3 level (TA?) of 267 and a ph of 7.1. CYA is virtually non existent and no chlorine. Before I add chlorine...

My local Thin Bleach is <5% Sodium Hydroxide is that OK?

pH = 7.4 FC = 10ppm CC = 1ppm TA = 178 CH = dont know CYA = 60 I use a Palintest kit I know the TA is high and that bringing the PH down to 7.1 and aerate back up will reduce TA. But not sure what to do first. It's a light skimming of green algae that's 24 hours old max, sitting on the floor of...

My local Thin Bleach is <5% Sodium Hydroxide is that OK?

here's a photo. The pool started to get a green floor this morning so I've upped the FC to 10ppm. It took 12 litres of this stuff to get from 1.4 to 10.4ppm. I think I understand your question... it looks like it's Hydroxide (with the water) and Chlorite without. so it's less than 5% Sodium...

My local Thin Bleach is <5% Sodium Hydroxide is that OK?

thanks. 14pence per litre (10 cents?) <5% could be anything close to zero I guess It also says it has stabilizers too... is that the dreaded CYA I'm trying stay clear of? For the UK guys I'm talking about Sainsbury's Basic Thin Bleach ed. maybe caustic soda? NaOH

Re: Anyone Use a Pollytunnel canopy for their ABG? We don't all live in the desert!! :-) I wonder if this might be an idea to share with those who have 'real' in ground pools? Admininstrators... would be interesting to know if you can provide an idea as to where everyone is located. Seems to...

Anyone Use a Pollytunnel canopy for their AGP?

Re: Anyone Use a Pollytunnel canopy for their ABG? Here's my brand new luxury pool enclosure! The temperature outside has been pretty rubbish (low to mid 60'sF) and wet. We've been in the pool most days in the last week. Pool temp doesnt drop as much as solar blanket only and the air inside...

Newish filter media from old filter in new Sand Filter?

Thanks Teapot, I think it would be a good swap. T40's water flow of 8-9 cubic metres is a better match for my system compared to my current 4-5 cubic metre recommended flow of the Azur. That said the pool water's looking good.

Newish filter media from old filter in new Sand Filter?

Hi I have an opportunity to acquire a better sand filter than I currently have (replace with a Triton T40). I have just added new filter media to the old filter (See spec at bottom of post). Question is can I simply pour the filter media into the new filter? I guess the issues are around the...

How to get the sand/dirt from the bottom of my hottub?

This is an old'ish post but I might be of use to someone looking through the history for an answer to this problem for zero cost. I cut a few metres of hose pipe from the garden hose (dont tell my wife!). Grabbing both ends of the cut pipe I fill full of water. Then you quickly drop one end onto...

'Sand' Filter using glass - How Much?

I opened up the filter after a weeks filtering (couple hours per day) and there's definitely activity in there!! It looked like white goo on top. This ties in with the cloudy pool I had when I shocked it. So I'll probably stick with the levels I have currently. Especially that when you move up...

'Sand' Filter using glass - How Much?

Hi, I put in the required amount of glass media into my filter (details in sig). It said I could use less weigt measures (15%) because the glass media is lighter and so I have the required volume. I'm left with about 25cm (10 inches) of gap from the top of the media pile to the top of the...

    Intex owner general pump questions.

Rubber boots could be the answer. They are used a lot in koi carp pools to connect different size pipes or to join up two slightly off line pipes. See me new thread on rubber boots. I'm in the uk so my example is a uk site but there must be us versions.

Rubber boots for odd sized pipes

Whilst working out how to fit my 1.5 inch standard flexible pipe to my intex odd sizing I came across this site. They do boots that simply clamp at either end. Hope this is of use to others. I plan to connect my pipes to the intex in and out plungers in the side of my intex pool. Comments...

Does my pump look big in this?

Thanks for the prompt replies. I checked over the contents of the filter I got off eBay and I might be missing an o ring off the lateral pipe. I'm guessing this would reduce the amount of water being forced down through the laterals (it's a top loader). Ordered another one today so will report...
