    New Intelliph Install…

^^^ 100%. I too have an IC40 and had to apply the fix. You can have Pentair fix it while under warranty. After that, you can take your chances and you can wait until it fails and then fix it yourself. Or you can apply a modification of the fix proactively, and avoid the issue altogether...

    New Intelliph Install…

Speaking of which, have you come across the dreaded over-current issue these IntellipHs have? You'll have to deal with that, too. After you solve the pressing motor-reversed issue, we'll walk you through the over-current issue. It's a relatively easy fix, but one you might want to apply the day...

    New Intelliph Install…

Ironically, when I first installed my IpH, it wouldn't work. Took me a while to figure out I had reversed the tubes, because, like you, it made more sense to me to connect them that way. So I'm with ya. But... I'd be a little worried now that someone was messing with the guts of the controller...

Ah, excellent. More importantly, now I don't have to type out all the how's and why's!! ;)

    Hi im new

Welcome to TFP. I just wrote in your other thread, following up on the great advice you've already received there. Let's get you set up with a proper test kit, and get you reading up on how we do what we do here. Links to get you started are in your other thread.

Is there such thing as too much filtration?

No amount of filtering will rid your pool of "the green." You are not properly chlorinating your pool, which is allowing algae to grow. Filters do not control algae, proper chemistry does. And tabs are the devil. Yes, they add chlorine, but they also add CYA (cyanuric acid). CYA helps protect...

    New Intelliph Install…

I'll have to check on this tomorrow for you, as it's now too dark and too cold outside (and my pad is off for the night). The tubes look connected correctly to me. The pump does seem to be running the wrong way. I'll verify that for you tomorrow. The good-ish news is: the pump is DC, which...

Keeping O-rings in place during assembly

@FormerMurkyLagoon and @Craig22939, I can't picture exactly the parts either of you are working with, but sometimes an o-ring seats better in one part its sealing but not the other, which is sometimes just a flat surface, or at least not as "grooved" as the first part. If you can't get it to...

    Pool brush recommended

Another vote for ProTuff. I don't have their brush yet, but I have two of their poles and a net. Their quality and engineering have no peers. Not even close. I expect their brushes to be the same...

How hard is it to change out this part?

Some semi-related notes: (1 ) For future reference, Pentair IntelliChlor SWGs have a built-in usage meter. It keeps track of the number of hours the cell has generated chlorine, which is supposed to be about 10,000 hours total. You can access the hours counter quite easily. It's a quick way to...

    Draining a fiberglass pool safely

Oh, and please post a full suite of test results. Do you have a proper test kit? Our experts can use those test results to help you determine just how much water, if any, actually needs to be drained.

    Draining a fiberglass pool safely

This is out of my wheelhouse. Just chiming in to let you know it was good to ask. The water is an integral part of the structure of any pool, but that is especially true for vinyl and fiberglass pools. In some cases, it is the water pressure being exerted on the fiberglass that is keeping the...

Pool under construction - should I not use flagstone on our water feature wall?

As Ahultin alludes, not all flagstone is alike, and some should definitely not be used near a pool. The problem is, flagstone is basically compressed sand. If the Dude did a good job on yours some millions of years ago, you'll be OK. If not, then untreated it'll sand and flake and make a mess...

Expert in Cordless Pool Cleaning Robots – Tips & Recommendations for Purchase and Discussion

Not that you asked... This was one of a handful of reasons I never went for a robot, and only half-joke that I would when they can crawl themselves out of the pool to empty and charge. I really like my suction-side vac for these reasons, it's very light to remove when I need to (and I almost...

Expert in Cordless Pool Cleaning Robots – Tips & Recommendations for Purchase and Discussion

My Roomba, with charging station (including the station's "off-loading' bin) was about $550. I imagine making a submersible Roomba and a weatherproof charging station would definitely cost a lot more, but how much is a lot? Three times as much? I think some people are paying that much for their...

Expert in Cordless Pool Cleaning Robots – Tips & Recommendations for Purchase and Discussion

It's too bad Roomba (iRobot) hasn't gotten involved. They have the software, perfected over many, many years. It works. They just need to apply it to a submersible version. The reality is, it's a pretty harsh environment, under water, and salt water at that. Definitely an engineering challenge...

Expert in Cordless Pool Cleaning Robots – Tips & Recommendations for Purchase and Discussion

See? So they know how they're supposed to work, they just haven't gotten there yet. My previous rants about this describe how they should work, and the design would solve all the problems you list. No solar. No soaking. The robot climbs out of the water and finds it's 120V-powered charging...

    Pentair IntelliChlor Hours of Usage

Right. Does a 20% light mean 0001, 1000 or 1999? Or does it mean it's completed 2000 hours, and is now somewhere between 2001-3999, until the 40% light comes on! So a 20% light could indicate 1 hr through 3999 hrs!?!?! (I think that's what you're getting at.) I'm assuming the SWG knows the...

    Pentair IntelliChlor Hours of Usage

It might be just me... but I would have chosen something crystal clear, because "indicating the hours of usage" could sound like "indicating the hours of usage remaining" or "indicating the hours of usage consumed." Not to mention that "hours of usage" could mean: (1) "the number of hours the...

    Pentair IntelliChlor Hours of Usage

Every owner of an IntelliChlor knows, or should know, how to check Usage Hours. Like this, from the owner manual: IntelliChlor SCG Usage Hours Meter The IntelliChlor® SCG provides a built-in cell “usage hours” meter that reports how many hours IntelliChlor has been operating. The IntelliChlor...

    Almost!

Not really. But back then I wasn't on the internet every day ordering yet another gizmo I didn't need!
  26. Dirk

    Almost!

Great idea! I ordered one for you. Look for it on your porch in a couple days. Hope you don't mind, I used your charge card number. Looking forward to your report! ;) You do this one, I'll do the one that crawls all the way out of the pool and empties its own bin. Deal?
  27. Dirk

    Almost!

Yes, I think that was probably in my previous rantings. My Roomba wanders my house, or will clean only the areas I "command" it to. It then returns to it's charging station, and empties its tiny bin into a much large bin attached to the charging station. I only empty that one a few times a year...
  28. Dirk

    Almost!

I've been talking about this for a few years now. About how I'd buy a robot cleaner when it can crawl out of the pool and park and charge itself. This is soooooo close.

Need suction side option for pool cleaner

If it were me... I would defeat the drain altogether and get that suction port working, and drive the debris into the main filter. It's basically what I DID do. I don't miss the drain at all, and my suction-side vac works great. I don't have to use, worry about or clean an additional filtering...
