Clear pool - FC still dropping - What could be going on?

Note the last time I added chlorine... Yesterday, tested FC@ 13 at 8:20 PM. Then retested this morning at 7am. And it showed a loss. Overnight.

Clear pool - FC still dropping - What could be going on?

I put above 10 to see if maybe there was an ammonia problem that could be cleared. My tests above were my OCLT and they showed that FC was dropping overnight. Plus, 8 gallons to get above 10ppm suggests something is strange. It should have taken 2 1/2 gallons.

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Problem solved. It occurred to me that the guy who opened the pool, may have mistakenly swapped the handles of the 2 Jandy valves I have. (The other, which I didn't share pic of, controls the return jets.) I took both handles off and sure enough, the one with the broken tab was on the wrong...

Clear pool - FC still dropping - What could be going on?

A few days ago, I was getting >0 CC readings and was trying to figure out what to do. So I took a step back, got my other numbers in order, and let the pool sit for a day. Did nothing. So here's what I did yesterday. Water is crystal clear, BTW. And CCs went to zero went I let it go. (I...

FAS DPD test - What am I doing wrong - 4 tests in a row - 4 different results

Sorry. I meant Sodium Bisulfate. New FAS/DPD test just now. Using exactly 1 heaping scoop and stirring/dropping fairly quickly. FC - 3 CC - 11 Added 2 gallons of 12% chlorine that I bought last year, so likely reduced in potency. Will check again in 30.

FAS DPD test - What am I doing wrong - 4 tests in a row - 4 different results

When I do that, I get CC results over 10 and very lower FC numbers, which seem unreasonable is a spotless pool. Another interesting note... I followed up with an OTO chlorine test. After adding the yellow drops, and shaking a bit, it gave me a reading of about 3. I list it sit another...

FAS DPD test - What am I doing wrong - 4 tests in a row - 4 different results

I just got a batch of new chemicals. Trying to SLAM my pool. (CYA of 50, PH ~7.2, TA 150-160) I woke up this morning and tested and saw that I was not at my target FC of 20. So added liquid chlorine and then tested 1 hour later. 4 test results: FC of 15, CC of 1 FC of 12, CC of 4 FC of 5...

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

Afternoon update. I had put a full gallon of 12% in this morning. At the FC is even lower than it was this morning. Current reading was ~4.5 for FC and a CC of 7 or 8. I'm going the wrong direction. So I decided to SLAM the pool again, and try to keep FC at 20 to the CC drops...

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

Yes - CYA is staying at 50. My TA is too high at 200 because the pool opening company overdid it. I've been trying to drop it, but only started that yesterday. PH is around 7.4 as of this morning. I had a few people swim in it the other day, but not for too long. That been it so far this...

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Thanks. Is option 1 doing basically the same as plugging one of the skimmers with something? Obviously, the "blockage" is occurring at the other end of the piping, but I don't know if that matters.

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

I wish I could jump ahead one week to test/treat the pool without the added variable of all the pollen/tree floaters, etc. If a bit a swimmer sweat can raise CCs, I'd have to imagine this debris is NOT working in my favor.

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

I do not. I put the CYA at 50 to accommodate the all day sun exposure.

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Here's my piping: The pipe at 10oclock is Skimmer 1...and can be shut off with the valve. The pipe at 5o'clock is the main drain pipe...and can be shut off. The pipe at 2o'clock is Skimmer...and CAN'T be shut off, and that pipe is behind that diverter valve.

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

Does that mean I would need to SLAM again? Or would keeping FC in the right range eventually remove the CCs? It's certainly a possibility that my first OCLT wasn't done properly. After all, one of my chems was expired.

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Not sure if this is the right forum...please move if it's not. My pool has 2 skimmers, and 2 main drains. The 2 main drains get combined into 1 pipe, so for all intents and purposes, it's really one. I can shut off the main drain, which leaves the 2 skimmers running. If I try to vacuum...

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

It was 12% liquid shock I bought at the pool store. Could there be algae up in the DE filter? I completed cleaned it out last week before I did the SLAM. So it'd have to be algae that was sucked up into a clean filter. When I look in the skimmer to clean out all the tree debris, it often has...

Do CCs eventually go away if you keep FC at level?

I was getting some low CC readings, despite having spotless water. So I SLAMed it a few days ago. Had my FC in the 20-25 range, and was able to make both the CC go to 0, and my overnight use of FC to be 0. So I let FC drop back down to the 4-8 range, where it should be for CYA of 50. But...

How much chlorine does your pool use? Corollary: what drives loss of chlorine

Well, got my new chemicals. But unlike a few days ago, when I didn't have ANY CC after slamming. Now I'm showing some again. THIS, despite the water being absolutely crystal clear. 8.5' looks like 3'. If swimmers and algae can cause CCs to form, wouldn't debris from trees also generate CCs...

How much chlorine does your pool use? Corollary: what drives loss of chlorine

Yes - I had all of that. FC stayed fixed over night, just about 20. Water crystal clear. And no CC.

How much chlorine does your pool use? Corollary: what drives loss of chlorine

That was just to SLAM it. 20 is the SLAM target. It's back down to single digits now.

How much chlorine does your pool use? Corollary: what drives loss of chlorine

I did it the other day, when the FC was at 25 and it was at 25 in the morning. I think I did it the next night too with same result, but I've done so many tests, I may have forgotten. I will try again. 50 CYA, by the way. (I have a new batch of test chemicals arriving shortly, so maybe I'll...

How much chlorine does your pool use? Corollary: what drives loss of chlorine

I shocked my pool a few days ago, and have been watching how much the FC drops during the day. My CCs are pretty much at zero now, so I'd think FC would drop during the day as a result of sun, but not quite as much as I'm seeing. Over the past few days, FC dropped 24 to 15. Then 15 to about...

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

OK - I think I got it. In the test I just posted above, it occurred to me that I wasn't adding enough of the powder into the liquid before I started the drops. (I read that 1 scoop is enough for low FC, but when FC is over 20, I realized I wasn't bonding all the chlorine with 1 scoop.) So I...

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

I tested the FC last night just before sun went down. It was around 20. Added another gallon of 12% chlorine. Measured first thing this morning, and the FC is at 10. With my outdated and yellow chemicals, it was still showing CC at 13. Water is spotless and odorless though. Does this sound...

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

I had an old kit from 8-9 years ago. I replaced all the chemicals about a year or so ago, although I see 2019 expiration dates on some of them. They were stored in my sunroom. Either in the plastic case, or the plastic bag in which they were shipped.

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

Something is definitely not right. I just got readings of 21 FC and 11 CC. The other strange thing is that my OTO chlorine test only shows a Total Chlorine of 1. Wacky. I looked at the TFTTESTKIT website, and it said that the DPD reagent #3 needs to be clear. Mine is bright yellow. Even 1...

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

I was able to get my FC up into the mid-20s. And the CC was still quite high (13 or so - I get a different set of numbers every time I do it). Higher than it was when I didn't have enough FC in the pool. Will the CC's dissipate? Or am I making the issue worse?
