    Travertine pool deck question

Ours is strait edge but the edges are eased a bit so it is not sharp. I personally like the look better. When I see bullnose it makes me think of a public pool. I think it is going to hurt if you hit your head against either so probably just personal preference.

Granite countertop for a swim up bar

Just because this can be a little confusing Quartz as in the manmade material would NOT be a good choice because it will yellow in sunlight (may be ok if using a dark one) but it is non-porous and does not require sealing. We have it inside our house it is awesome. Quartzite is a natural product...

    New PB Quote - Texas

It cost me $12/hour to use my spa on propane and we usually only run it a couple hours at the most. With natural gas it would be a lot cheaper. Oh and on the Fusion there is a version called "soft" that says it is a salt sanitizer but that one was not what my PB uses and I am not 100% that it...

    New PB Quote - Texas

I am the rare exception here apparently but I actually love my attached spa. We did not do one on our last pool and kind of felt like we should have. We added one on our new pool and honestly I was pretty on the fence about it all the way up until we signed the contract. Now having it for a few...

    Too deep

I love the feel of polished I had a friend that had that finish and it feels amazing. I am not sure though about the longevity compared to a pebble finish. We had mini pebble in our last pool it was ok. In our current pool we have PebbleSheen which I was told was comparable to mini pebble but it...

Cost of just LABOR for plastering a new pool

I am in custom manufacturing (completely unrelated to pools) and we run in to this all the time. A customer says "Hey I already bought all this material can you do the finishing?" On every thing we do we have waste associated with the material and that is part of the cost estimated in our price...

    Solar heating?

Hi Guys, So we got our pool finished in June. The pool is 22k gallons gunite with an attached spa. The pool is on the North side of the house. I was expecting the temps to not be as warm as our last pool because of the location but throughout the summer except for about a month the temp has been...

HELP Me Decide Vinyl vs Gunite!

I have only had gunite but in-ground vinyl pools are not really popular here in fact I have never even seen or swam in one in person. I just wanted to chime in and echo on what @PoolBrews said and recommend getting pavers estimated on the gunite option to compare apples to apples. Every stamped...

Travertine and water feature sinking/cracking! Seeking TFP input!

Ok this is what I suspected. So more than likely what has happened is when the deck was done in the Spring the clay was moist holding a lot of water. During the summer the soil drys and looses it's water retention (not sure about you but here in Texas we had an extremely hot and dry summer). So...

Saltwater Pool in N. Texas? OR Chlorine w/ UV Sanitizer....

I think this has some merit. Most PB (at least in DFW) use Oklahoma flagstone, it is what we had in our last pool. That stuff is super flaky. Ours deteriorated and flaked off in the pool constantly (per my previous post we did not have a SWG so that was not the cause). We have travertine on our...

Saltwater Pool in N. Texas? OR Chlorine w/ UV Sanitizer....

I live in North East Texas and having both a SWG and previously a UV/Ozone system I can 100% tell you I prefer SWG. We were talked out of a SWG on our old pool and I regretted it daily in the summer. I honestly have no idea if either the UV or Ozone did a thing but during the summer it took...

Coping- pros/cons of travertine vs stone

We had Oklahoma flagstone on our last pool and I was not crazy about it. It constantly "flaked" and bits would get in the pool. It is entirely possible that it was due the the quality of the flag stone or this particular type. We have travertine on our current pool and I like it much better.

Starting renovation project - feedback on what to include/consider for pool renovation.

Awesome. I actually tend to like darker plaster and that is what we had on out last pool but after convincing my wife to move to the country she wanted something lighter so "she can see snakes in the pool".

Idea for Dissolving CYA Granules– And Nothing in the Skimmer

@jark87 Wow that is crazy. Are you using a panty hose type "sock" and hanging it in front of a return?

Starting renovation project - feedback on what to include/consider for pool renovation.

What kind of paver decking are you planning on? Regarding the pebblesheen we did French Grey which I believe is very similar to Slate Blue and really like it. Depending on the sun exposure it is a nice light to medium "steel blue/grey". I am a fan of pebble finishes this is our second pool with...
