    Question on CC's

No this was the first time I did the overnight test so the first time I checked CCs. My question is, why do we worry about the CCs being at .5 or less? If they are a byproduct of the chlorine working then who cares? Why do we keep shocking to get the CCs down? Wouldn't adding more chlorine...

    Question on CC's

It's at 2, I just meant it should be at .5 before you stop shocking. I just don't understand how the cc could be that high if my FC didn't drop at all. Where do the cc's come from then?

    Question on CC's

Nope, took cover off last week and has been in shock since. It's looking very clear so that's why I'm wondering if I have to worry about the .5 cc or less.

    Question on CC's

No just regular liquid chlorine and SWG is off.

    Question on CC's

Hi, Just have a question about the overnight test. It says you pass when water is clear, FC loss is 1 ppm or less and cc is .5 ppm or lower. My water is very clear, I had no FC loss at all but my cc is 2 ppm. I thought cc is the byproduct of chlorine doing its job. If the FC didn't drop at...

Operating new heat pump while pool in shock mode

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knew if it was okay to run a heat pump while shocking the pool? I didn't know if the high chlorine was an issue like it could be for a gas heater. Thanks

    Question on closing

Thanks. I was just thinking that the cost of running the pump probably wouldn't be that bad. I am actually going to get a bigger pump with variable speed as I heard you can run it slower but longer and save money on your electric bill. I'm also considering adding some solar panels so I would...

    Question on closing

OK, thanks for the help. I was going to close it but I think I will wait and try to keep it clean until the water cools down then.

    Question on closing

Yes I can see that I probably close too early when it can still be fairly warm during the day. I always closed when the nights get too cold that trying to heat it anymore was pointless. I never considered letting the pump run without heating it as that's an expense too but mid Sept isn't too...

    Question on closing

Thanks. So you mean you quit heating it but still run the pump until the water gets below 60? I never considered water temp before, makes sense. My problem this year is my pump is shot and isn't working so I wasn't going to get a new one until next year because of the warranty. I was going to...

    Question on closing

Here in Michigan I close the pool around the end of August and open at the end of May. I always have such a green mess when opening regardless of adding algecide or not when closing. I had a thought and I wanted to see what people here think of this. If I purchase a submersible pump and use...

    Still cloudy after 11 days

Just wanted to give a final update in case someone searches on "cloudy" they can learn from my mistake! Water is finally clear after 3 weeks of shocking. My mistake was after passing the overnight chlorine test and showing no cc's, (twice) I started to let the chlorine fall thinking the water...

    Still cloudy after 11 days

It was at 7.2 for awhile and just recently seem to go up some. I was surprised today when my FC went from 25ppm yesterday to 15ppm this AM as it hasn't been dropping like that. I'm hoping that means it's still clearing stuff and although it may be wishful thinking I do think it may be a little...

    Still cloudy after 11 days

I have done the CYA about 3 times so I'm pretty sure that's good. Hardness is not an issue as I have a salt water pool and those levels are good. I haven't test for alkalinity but I guess I could to make sure it's not way off. Thanks.

    Still cloudy after 11 days

I know. I'm just baffled as to why I'm not seeing at least some change in the clarity. I keep thinking I'm missing something.

    Still cloudy after 11 days

OK, so I raised it back to over 20ppm (cya is 40) for the last 3 days now and still hardly any change. Did a OCLT last night at 25ppm and was 25ppm in morning. PH is 7.5. Checked filter, sand looks good, no channeling. Sand filter at 22psi, went up to 24psi over two days. I'm stumped. Like...

    Question on overnight chlorine test

Yep I realize that this year. Before I would just let the chlorine drop after passing the tests and then my filter would clean it up but this year it's not happening. I always thought logically what's the point of keeping the levels that high if the algae was dead but I guess passing the tests...

    Question on overnight chlorine test

OK, thanks. I did my first test in SLAM mode as it dropped only 1ppm and showed 0 cc's, then I did the second test at 12ppm and it showed no drop and no cc's so I figured I was good. Then I didn't stay in SLAM mode and figured the filter would clear up the dead algae but it's not happening...

    Question on overnight chlorine test

Hi, I've been using the TFP protocols for a few years now and I think I may have messed up this year on the overnight test and that is why my pool is still cloudy. In order for the test to be valid and also the cc reading to be accurate I'm thinking the chlorine ppm must be in shock value...

    Still cloudy after 11 days

OK, thanks. I will bring it back to SLAM value then until it clears hopefully.

    Still cloudy after 11 days

Hi, I'm new as far as registering but I've been following TFP protocols for a few years now and it's been working great. This year however I can't seem to clear up the water after slamming. Opened the pool this year a little later than normal and was a definitely a swampy looking mess! I kept...
