How to make this gate pool-safe?

I would like to use this as a pool-safe perimeter fence and am wondering what I'm up against. This would allow me to tear down a smaller wrought iron fence that is closer to the pool. Reading city codes, I'm not seeing anything to rule this out, but I think I need to: 1. Raise the latches to...

    Valve wrong, or installed wrong?

We have a valve that splits water flow between the spa and the pool. The valve that governs the flow was leaking last year, and pool service (which we are no longer using) recommended a rebuild kit. They ended up installing a new valve, for $300 parts/labor. I rarely use the spa, so this thing...

    Robotic cleaner

I’m in Texas. Called them couple weeks ago based on recommendations here and on Reddit, exceptional experience, quick/free ship and saved a bunch of money. As Jim said you do need to call them on the telephone. I got the Maytronics Dolphin Active 20. I love it!

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

Some progress - CYA is down to 120 from 160 (using the same person/process… tho it seems a bit prone to error). I tested levels and added acid and liquid chlorine per Poolmath suggestion. Almost. For some reason I paid attention to the Muriatic acid % but not the Chlorine. Added 10% chlorine at...

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

I did not - could have planned that part better. I was thinking the temperature delta (~20-22 degrees f) would mean the fill would stay toward the deep end, and pump was on the steps. The pump is so much faster than the hose that I think the missed opportunity is pretty small. I’ve also read...

Austin + Old Pool + SWG?

I’m feeling good about SWG and yeah - got a good kit and CYA is well over 150. I’m in the middle of a partial drain/fill and thinking I need to get that to a reasonable place before pulling the trigger on SWG. Thank you for the perspective!

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

I ran the CYA test again today, in brighter sun, and I got 160. Took sample to pool store and they said 185. So I think the 285 was in error. Based on this, I think a series of drain/exchange/fills could work. RO treatment looks like it will run north of $700, so I thought I would try. I got a...

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

I can see how this could be stressful for the plaster, and me :) OK, checking out the RO option. Saw one service that will leave a trailer in the driveway for two days and just take care of it. Will report back.

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

It looks like the city will allow the water into the storm drain if chlorine is less than 1ppm. It will take about two days to fill the pool from the hose, but this should be cheaper and more feasible than getting trucks in, or RO. There is a silt or something in the pool. I've wondered if it...

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

OK, so a drain+refill in my future, and that will give me a chance to do some tile repair, too.

First test - CYA 285 and next steps

I just took my pool over from a weekly pool service and did some tests with my new K2006 kit with Fas/DPD. FC: 16.5 CC: 3 Ph: 7.2 TA: 100 CH: 500 CYA: 285 (had to dilute the sample 2:1) I’m thinking about the following as next steps: 1. Stop the use of chlorine tabs :) 2. Start pumping water...

Austin + Old Pool + SWG?

Our pool is 50 years old. I’ve just cut the cord on weekly pool maintenance and am thinking about SWG. The main downside of SWG seems to be: Potential impact to pool material. Specifically we have some limestone around the spa and ceramic tile at the waterline. The limestone is already pretty...

    New leaking/shaking/noise

Thank you @1poolman1. Pool service explained this as: Large crack on the back side of the multiport valve that caused a leak and then caused the pump to lose prime (and thus causing shaking). They replaced the multiport valve today and things look/seem good. I’m uneasy about the timing - they...

    New leaking/shaking/noise

Yesterday, shortly after our pool service guy left, we noticed a new noise, a big leak from the main filter valve, and a rattling/shaking in the pvc pipe feeding into the chlorinator. I don’t know if they backwashed the de filter, but am wondering if something failed when pump was turned back...

Heater keeps turning on, pool is 95 degrees

I spoke to Pentair and they said this is almost definitely a problem with the touchpad membrane. Contrary to what the dealer just told me, the heater has a 2 year warranty so they will cover parts and labor.

Heater keeps turning on, pool is 95 degrees

I have a Pentair MasterTemp 400 pump (20 months old, rarely used, installed by dealer, hooked up to a 240 gallon capacity propane tank) that I turned on for a couple hours this weekend, to get pool from ~76 to ~80. I turned it on and off manually -- it's not on a schedule or anything...
