Brain fog when opening pool for the season

Thanks mknauss. Just wanted to make sure. What is the reason you loose the FC much quicker to UV when you are over SLAM levels? Just curious.

Brain fog when opening pool for the season

Hey guys - being a NJ pool owner over the age of 50 - there is always that time in late May / early June where I once again have to re-learn everything I had "down pat" last season. :) Sunday early afternoon we opened our above ground pool and it was green (hole in cover). No biggie - I...

    Correct pump size?

Ok cool. Thank you! Here’s some pics. I just realized I need another worm clamp on the connection from my pump to filter.

    Correct pump size?

Good morning! One other question. My new pump has 1 1/2” fittings that I needed adapters for in order to attach my 1 1/2” flexible hose. My sand filter also has 1 1/2” fittings. The adapters I bought have an end that screws into the pump fittings and another end as a nipple to fit inside the...

May have added too much CYA

Ugh. Hopefully not. I can live with 80ppm as long as I keep on top of the FC though I’ve heard. Thank u!!

May have added too much CYA

Thank you again! So If I added 7lbs of CYA could I realistically have over 80 - 100 ppm of CYA in my pool now? When I do the CYA test - and I'll do again with my back to the sun..it appears above 80-100. If when I had initially tested for CYA on Saturday and the comparator was filled all the...

May have added too much CYA

Thank you! How would I tell if I have chlorine lock? I added bleach last night to get over 10ppm and this morning my FC is about 7ppm with CC at .5. The CYA test included with the Taylor kit is very subjective I find. Is there a better test? Thank you again!

May have added too much CYA

Morning everyone! I'm not exactly a pool newbie - going on my 5th season, so I'm particularly mad at myself for this stupid mistake. I have a 38' x 18 x 52" partially sunk AGP. I have the Taylor K-2006 test kit. I use liquid clorine, baking soda and Borax as pool chemicals. According to...

    Correct pump size?

Good afternoon from New Jersey! I have an oval partially sunk above ground pool that is 38‘x18’x52” with approx 18,400 gallons of water. ( I used the TFP calculator). I have a 20” sand filter. My Doughboy Powerline XP 1.5 HP pump failed last season. I just bought a Hayward Powerflo LX with...

    Salt water generator for AGP

Thank u! Two questions. I have a steel frame pool...not resin. Any worries about rust? Also can u attach the cell attachment inline with flexible hosing?

    Salt water generator for AGP

Hey guys...with the current shortage of bleach I'm considering a salt water generator for my AGP. I'm looking for recommendations from anyone who has converted to salt water.. brand and model. Also I do not have rigid piping in my setup. All the piping is flexible so not sure if this would...

    No bleach, HD shipment?

I just bought 12 boxes of the Home Depot 3 pack. 36 gallons stored in my cool basement should get me through this season assuming not too many SLAMS.

Backwash and pump to filter problem

Hey guys. I have an issue. This season whenever I do these steps: -Backwash -Pump to filter -Filter I get a stream of dirty water back into my pool. What needs repairing?

Dirty water from jet after vacuuming?

Ok great. Thank you! I'll give the above ideas a shot.

Dirty water from jet after vacuuming?

Morning. I turn the pump off - disconnect the vacuum from the skimmer port and then turn the pump back on again. Dirty water shoots back into the pool for perhaps 5 seconds right after I turn the pump back on. Am I perhaps not back washing enough?...or perhaps right after I vacuum I should...

No Combined Chlorine but water is a bit cloudy

Thank you mknauss - the CC reading of 0 though is throwing me for a loop. If there was algae present wouldn't there be some combined chlorine?

No Combined Chlorine but water is a bit cloudy

We've had a TON of rain here in Central NJ the past week. My PH was 7.4 and it just tested at 7.0. I had my wife throw in a half box of Borax and then we'll retest. CYA at about 45. TA around 70. Last tested FC to be 4.5. No CC Has wife throw in three cups of bleach to get FC to be around...

The Aquabot Jr. Has been recommended but the reviews are mixed on Amazon. The Dolphin Escape is Amazon's Choice but is also three times the price of the Aquabot. Any above ground pool owners have one that they love?

Shock before covering AG pool with vinyl patterned liner?

Good afternoon. Closing my pool today. First time. I know there is an article that says to bring the water to shock level before covering...however I'm worried my patterned liner will get faded. Does the chlorine level dissipate through the winter? I'm guessing yes. Everything else is...
