Dirty water from jet after vacuuming?

Morning.

I turn the pump off - disconnect the vacuum from the skimmer port and then turn the pump back on again.
Dirty water shoots back into the pool for perhaps 5 seconds right after I turn the pump back on.
Am I perhaps not back washing enough?...or perhaps right after I vacuum I should backwash - then rinse before turning the filter to the "filter" position?

If you're vacuuming directly to the filter...it sure sounds like you need to backwash right after doing so.

some other things to try, especially if you dont have enough water to backwash.
When you turn the pump off after vacuuming to filter:
1. turn valve from filter to waste and run pump for 15 to 30 seconds, or
2. turn valve from filter to rinse and run pump for 15 to 30 seconds,
then turn pump off, reset valve to filter and restart.
If neither backwashing after vacuuming nor the above two ideas work, you may have a bad spider gasket or broken lateral.
