    2-phosphono-1,2,4-butanetricarboxylic acid?

Thank you both for your quick replies. It is not cheap. One treatment cost me $50 bucks. I wonder if it helped at all.

    2-phosphono-1,2,4-butanetricarboxylic acid?

I was hoping someone can answer my question. Before I went BBB the pool store told me to put 2 1/2 16 oz. Biogard Scale Inhibitor into my pool. My guess is because my CH was pretty high. My trusty TF-100 measured my CH after I put the scale inhibitor in at 630. The ingredient is...

I heart my TF100 kit. I'd marry it if I'm not already married.

Am I done shocking or should I continue?

Yey! :whoot: Thank you Jason, I think I'm going swimming tonight. Oh I have another question. Do you think I should lower my ph from 7.4 to 7.2 and my TA from 100 to maybe 90 with my CH being so high (580)? Thanks again. :-D

Am I done shocking or should I continue?

Oops I forgot the CYA, it is <20. So yes my CYA is low because it's an indoor pool. So I'm debating if I can go ahead and let the FC fall below the shock level. :)

Am I done shocking or should I continue?

Hi. My background is here and here. I have now realized I have a filter problem which is probably why my water is still very cloudy. It looks clean but oh well until that filter is replaced there is nothing I can do about it. Here's the latest test results: FC: 10 CC: .5 TA: 100 PH: 7.4 CH: 580...

Yey, thank you both for a speedy reply. :-D

Filter question... I should probably know the answer but

Thank you woodyp. When we backwash the psi goes down, then it slowly goes back up again when in (what we think) is filter mode. Would recirculate also show increase in the pressure gauge?

Filter question... I should probably know the answer but

My sand filter is ancient. It's so old the multiport has only backwash, winterize, recirculate and filter. I understand the new ones now have six, rinse being one of them. My question is what is recirculate for? The reason I am asking is because the valve pin broke so to backwash we have to...

yet another "going on vacation" question

Yup I'm beginning to realize this now. I think I'll try this and see what happens. Thanks Chem Geek.

yet another "going on vacation" question

Thanks Ike, I think I got it. I'm leaning towards trying this method. This question has probably been asked here many times but is there any negative impact of long term use of MPS? I promise I will read up on this as soon as I'm done posting. I am willing to try just about anything as I have...

yet another "going on vacation" question

Okay so it looks like today I only lost 1.5 ppm. My FC was 11 last night and tonight it was 9.5, CC <.5. I think i'm getting there. I brought it back up to 13.2 tonight by dumping another 182 oz bleach. I want it to be still at shock level when I get back from work tomorrow. And then I will...

yet another "going on vacation" question

Thanks Steve. I kinda suspect that too. When I did an overnight FC loss test and only lost 1 ppm with <.5 CC, I thought I was done shocking. Being new to this, my 24 hour FC loss seemed normal (to me) without realizing mine is an indoor pool and is not exposed to sun like everyone else...

yet another "going on vacation" question

Thanks Jason. Maybe I can do half and half. On Thursday night I'll bump the FC to 15 using bleach then use a couple of trichlor tabs in the floater. I'll remove the floater as soon as I get back Monday evening. I've pretty much convinced myself this is what I'll do. If anyone else has any...

yet another "going on vacation" question

Okay, I'm shocking again tonight. I'll continue to shock at FC 10 until Thursday then I'll bump it up to 20 to compensate for my 4 day vacation. Would it make sense for me to use Tri-chlor tabs? I still have some. I just don't want to add unnecessary chemicals to the pool. My CH is already high...

yet another "going on vacation" question

I just want to add that my pool is indoors but gets a little bit of sunlight during the day. Not much but from noontime to about 3 pm, direct light hits part of the pool that's exposed to skylights. Would that make a difference?

yet another "going on vacation" question

Oh, I thought losing 2 ppm during the day is normal. What is normal for an indoor pool? Should I be shocking longer then? I stopped shocking when I passed the overnight FC loss test and my CC went down to .5. Should I continue shocking? Thank you both for a speedy response. :-D

yet another "going on vacation" question

I will be out of town starting early Friday and will be back late Monday. My FC is currently at 8 (still coming down from shock level). My CC is staying at .5. My CYA is <20. My question is should I bring my FC to shock level which is 10 and overcompensate on the days I will be gone? Like if I...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

Uhm... :( I think it's time to call the pros. Jason is right, in the long run we need a working filter. I decided to bring my FC back up to shock level last night. I was afraid my CC will go up with all that gunk that came back in the pool. Sure enough when I tested this morning, I lost 2...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

So here's a picture of my ancient filter. As you can see there are three PVC pipes attached to it. My husband said it's the kind that can't be unscrewed so in order to get to the sand he has to cut the PVC pipes to removed the head. The pipe on the other side is where the waste go. There is no...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

So I just backwashed and the psi is now down to 25. Since I don't have a rinse cycle, the dirty water came back in the pool  . I wasn't sure at first so I put a sock in one of the returns and you wouldn't believe the cloud of white stuff that gathered around the return. Well at least now...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

I think I would use flock as the last resort. Weeks ago when I was uninformed the pool store sold me a bottle of clarifier in liquid form, I asked what it is for and they said "exactly what it said in the bottle it will clarify the water" (that didn't work) then they sold me something in powder...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

Thank you. I figure it would be okay. I just won't let a kid get in there I suppose, a small body would disappear in the deep end. Another problem that I have is that the filter is inside the house. It's in the basement. I have to look into how I can open the tank and let water overflow without...

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

Can I ask a silly question? Is it safe to get in the water even though it's cloudy? I want to brush the side where I see some stain that I can't get out with a long handle brush. Or should I wait?

Has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 days now BUT....

Again, thanks for your input. I'll look into what zea3 suggested and see if I can open the tank. And, I will try to conquer my fear of backwashing and do it tonight. The only thing is the filter is so old it doesn't have a rinse cycle. I will also add muriatic acid to lower the ph to...

This is a continuation from this thread Has passed the Overnight FC loss test for 3 days now with no visible change. Here's the latest from this morning: FC: 11 (no change from last night, has passed the overnight FC loss test for 3 nights in a row) CC: .5 pH: 7.8 TA: 90 CH: 630 (this was...

    Day 6 still shocking

My numbers tonight are showing FC at 11 and CC at .5. Like you I just cant seem to get rid of my .5 CC. I haven't lost more than 1 ppm overnight for two nights now. If it holds, tomorrow will be the third night. We were told that since we have an indoor pool to backwash only when the psi goes up...

    Day 6 still shocking

That's great news!! I'm still at shock level but already passed the overnight FC loss test. My water is still very cloudy though. I'm starting to think I have a filter problem. I think I'll wait until I'm below shock level and retest my ph and TA. Then I'll take it from there. Meanwhile I'm...
