My CYA is creeping up and I don't know why

Thank you for your response, Herman. I think the culprit might be the reagent. The old tests were done with older chemicals left over from last year. I opened up a new reagent for CYA today. The only concern that I have is that the pool was behaving properly until the last 2 weeks. I will test...

My CYA is creeping up and I don't know why

FC 5.0, pH 7.6, Alk 60, CYA 60, CH 230, pool temperature 72 degrees I hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying their pool. I am just starting to run into a CYA problem. At the beginning of the season (5/16) I tested my CYA and it was at 30. I tested CYA multiple times and confirmed...

    Cyanuric Acid Reading

Hello, I just opened my pool today and the water temperature is a chilly 56 degrees. I took a water sample and heated the water in the microwave for 20 seconds. I then measured my cyanuric acid and it was 40. I was expecting a zero reading. Is it normal to have a reading this high when...

I think I might have some algae

FC last night was 4.5. I tested it twice, just to make sure the reading was correct. This morning my FC was 4 both times I tested it. Thank you for your help. I am not going to do the SLAM.

I think I might have some algae

CYA is 30 FC is 6 pH is 7.5 ALK is 80 I tend to keep my chlorine on the high side to prevent my pool from getting algae. I solve each morning for FC of 6 and let it drift down to around 4 each day. I was surprised when I saw what looked like algae in my pool yesterday. I brushed it away and...

Yellow/Mustard Algae-Why is this happening to me?

Thank you for your reply. This morning my FC overnight test showed a chlorine loss of less than 1 ppm. The loss was just .5. I am assuming this reading was because it was yellow mustard algae and my chlorine was in good shape before I started the SLAM. Should I now move onto the next step and...

    Questions about my SLAM

    Questions about my SLAM

I just opened my pool and I started my SLAM this morning. My readings were as follows: CYA 30 FC 0 pH 7.5 ALK 65 At 9:30am the pool Math told me to put in 3 gallons and 1 quart of 10% chlorine for shock level of 14 (app called for 12 but I thought I would go a little bit higher). At 1:00 my...

    It might be Algae

After my slam, I wanted to give you an update and ask your opinion on my current FC levels. My recommended levels with a CYA of 40 is to be between 5-7 FC. Friday morning I had a FC reading of 9.I added no chlorine. Saturday morning 6fc. I added 84 oz to bring fc to 8. Sunday morning 5.5fc. I...

Thank you again for all of your help. I will adjust the free chlorine tomorrow morning to your recommended range.

    It might be Algae

OK. I will add stabilizer to bring my CYA to 40 and then FC at 7. Is that correct?

    It might be Algae

Hooray!! After two days of slamming, I think I am in the clear. Last night I tested my FC at 11:30 pm and recorded 17.5. This morning at 6:00 am, I recorded my FC at least at 16.5 but less than 17. My CC was less than .5. My pool has been and is still crystal clear. Do I just let the chlorine...

    It might be Algae

Last night @ 9:30, I tested the FC and recorded 6.5 ppm. I tested the FC again this morning @ 6:30 and recorded 5 ppm. I will bring the chlorine back up to 6 ppm. Do you propose I do anything else at this time. Thank you for your help.

    It might be Algae

Ok. Thank you for the advice.

    It might be Algae

I just checked the FC and it went down from 4.5 to 2.5 in 5 hours. Should I just try to bring it up to 6 ppm or should I bring the FC to shock level? Thank you for your help.
  22. M

    It might be Algae

OK. My heater manual said to not maintain a FC level above 5 ppm. That is why I was trying to maintain a FC of 4.5. Should I check it again this evening or should I check it in the morning? Thank you for your help.

    It might be Algae

I was using the lower part of the range because of my pool heater. I brought the FC up to 4.5 around 3:00pm EST today. Should I check the FC again later this evening?

    It might be Algae

    4.5 or 18.2?
  25. M

    It might be Algae

Yes. Yesterday my chlorine level was at 7.5 and this morning it was 0. I was expecting a 3-4 range and was going to bring it up to 4.5. I was surprised with the 0 reading. I forgot to mention that the pool store said my phosphates were at 438.
  26. M

    It might be Algae

Yes. I added chlorine multiple times each day to maintain a high FC level. The FC certainly would have dipped below 18 during the day but that level needed to be maintained if I have yellow mustard algae. I not sure if I did or not. What do you suggest that I do?

    It might be Algae

I forgot to mention that we go approximately 3 inches of rain last night and into today.

    It might be Algae

I had a yellowish substance on my top step about a week ago. At the same time, I started losing chlorine. I decided to slam the pool. I got the chlorine levels up to 18.2 and tried to maintain them at that level for a few days. The pool has always been clear, I passed the overnight test 2 days...
