    Filter leak

Just out of curiosity, what is the appropriate method of applying lube? Should I remove the o-ring to apply or just apply in place? Is the consensus to really glob it on thick, or should a thin layer be sufficient?

Advice Needed For Purchase of New Pump and Filter (Pics Included)

Regarding the lights... Obviously I don't know if yours are the same as mine, but mine have 2 modes (color change, and constant color). To change modes, I just have to flick the switch off for about a second, then turn them back on. If they are turned off for more than about a second, when...

    Filter leak

Hello all, I have had this issue for awhile now. My Pentair canister filter leaks where the lid mates with the bottom portion (see circled area in pic). I've tried a new o-ring, lots of lube, a little lube, nothing would seem to get a good seal consistently. I could usually get it to seal...

My First New Season - Numbers

Hello all! Thanks to this forum, and a nice little test kit, I was able to successfully convert my 'new to me' pool to the BBB last summer. Being in Central Texas, I didn't close the pool for the winter, but I definitely didn't give it the attention it had when it was being used regularly. I...

Trying to fix my pool lights

Ok, I took the light apart and the stuff inside wasn't rust, just scummy water. Cleaned it up and the light actually still works, but the colorwheel motor is toast. I have the part on order and it should be in this week, I hope. So now I have a new question... I know you're supposed to...

Trying to fix my pool lights

Thanks Dave! Anybody ever seen the brownish discoloration in the light lens as described above? Anything (besides rust) that it could be?

Trying to fix my pool lights

I have 2 lights in my pool (Pentair Spectrum Amerilites) that are connected to the same switch. They haven't worked since I bought the house a month or so ago. I finally got around to looking at them yesterday and found a couple things. First, the GFCI switch that it is in my main control...

    Bleach adding procedure

I thought that might be the case, just couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks! I've been doing a little reading up on the liquidator and it is something I want to do. I want to wait until I get the hang of this first.

    Bleach adding procedure

I'm about to take my inline chlorinator offline and switch to bleach, but there is one piece of info I can't seem to find. I'm sure it's here, but I'm having no luck. Anyway, I want to try to add around the same time each day and with my schedule, that'll end up being late evenings, probably...

    Need help understanding my valves

Haven't figured this out yet. I need to check with the city to see if it's ok to drain to the street. If not, I'll have to locate my sewer clean-out and drain to there. If I can drain to the street, I'll definitely see about getting the sewer charges waived. Thanks for the tip!

    Need help understanding my valves

Any particular reason you don't want to completely close the return valve?

    Need help understanding my valves

Awesome! Thanks for all the help. One last plumbing related question and then I'll let this thread die... Another pic posted below for reference. The question is: what is the best way to drain this pool. I have a faucet plumbed into the top of the main pump. Seems this would be the most...

    What to adjust first?

Thanks for all the info. I am familiar with the pool calculator, but hadn't used it much until now. Great tool, installed the iphone version last night. Anyway, my next question... Is it safe to drain the pool this time of year? I've heard stories about plaster cracking and other bad things...

    Need help understanding my valves

Ok, that makes sense. And I think I figured out the booster pump as well. The pipe that comes out of the ground is the return line, and it is fed from the return side of the main pump, right?

    Need help understanding my valves

Thanks BR. I am sure that there is water coming out of the returns... and I'm pretty sure that the blue valve is the skimmer. I do know the skimmer is flowing, so I think that's the only one it could be. So how about my assumption about the second drain being for the booster pump suction...

    Need help understanding my valves

Hi all, new pool owner here. I can't seem to figure out what all of my valves on controlling. Hopefully the pics are posted below. Sorry I can't provide better pics, the lattice around everything makes for tight quarters. Anyway, here's what (I think) I know... (top to bottom). Pressure...

Ok, had time to test CH of fill water and it came out at 210.

    What to adjust first?

Thanks. Yeah, I knew I would have to do a partial drain to take care of the CYA. I'll try to test the fill water this evening and will post results when I have them. We have pretty hard water in central Texas so I suspect the number will be pretty high, but we'll see.

    What to adjust first?

Hello all, I just bought a house with a pool (first time owner) last month and have now been reading the forum for a couple weeks (great place you have here btw). Just got my test kit today and did my first test. Took awhile since I read and reread everything, but I think I got it right...
