    Cannot keep chlorine in pool

Thanks I do have a smaller Taylor kit, but it doesn't test for CYA. I will look into upgrading. As for the chemicals, when I opened this spring I only needed to add some PH Up (sodium carbonate) and some Clorox brand Stabilizer (which says 100% CYA). It wasn't until I got desperate this week I...

    Cannot keep chlorine in pool

I've run out of ideas on my own, so I turn to this forum for some help. Since I opened my pool this spring I have not been able to keep any chorline levels in the pool for even 24 hours. In past seasons, I could keep 3-4 pucks in the floater with some occasional shock and levels would maintain...

    Pool floor wearing

Hi all, we have a gunite pool. Somewhere between 20-30 years old. We have a few spots on the steps and floor that look like this. My questions are is there any type of patch job that can be done without draining the pool? And if not, can it be patched or do you think the whole thing needs to be...

Lost a few feet of water over winter

I lost the water (3+ feet) between October and April while the pool was covered. Then added about a foot back this week. Bucket test was this week, for 2 days.

Lost a few feet of water over winter

I've added about a foot of water, did the bucket test and didn't lose anything. Does that make any sense?

Lost a few feet of water over winter

Just opened our pool today and the level is 3 or 4 feet lower than where we left it. Well below any plumbing, aside from the main drain. No visible cracks that I could see either. Is there definitely a leak in the main drain or could that much evap? Is it worth filing a little to see if it holds...

    Resurfacing concrete deck

We had some work done in the fall and had to replace some concrete and want to repaint/stain the whole concrete deck around the pool. There's another product currently on there, but we've only been in the house a few years so I don't know what it is. As you can see from the pics, this also goes...

    Drain Plug Options

This is a little bit of a different question. We have an attached spa that has a leak in the drain pipe. We'd like to wait til next spring to repair it so we don't have to tear up concrete during the summer. The leak detection guy said he'd seen in similar cases, people make plugs out of pvc...

Variable Speed Pumps (Hayward Super Pump)

I'm looking into replacing my old Emerson 1.5hp pump which had some issues last summer. I was interested in the VS pumps, specifically I was looking into the Hayward Super Pump VS. It seems like quite a few people had issues with them, but most of the threads I've seen are a few years old. I...

Pump doesn't start after replacing capacitor

I found a similar thread that said the centrifugal switch could be stuck. I messed with that a little bit and it started up fine!

Pump doesn't start after replacing capacitor

I just removed the back cap. It was back there with the access to the shaft.

Pump doesn't start after replacing capacitor

I inherited an old Emerson pump that just started having issues. It would just hum when I turned it on. I could spin the shaft manually, so tried replacing the capacitor. Still having the same issue. If I spin the shaft while it's humming, it kicks on and seems to run fine. Is there anything...

    DE returning to pool

I should also mention that before cleaning, the psi was regularly 12-13. After cleaning it is running at about 17. Not sure if that helps.

    DE returning to pool

I've seen similar topics, but not quite as drastic as I was seeing. I have an old Hayward 36 sq ft DE filter. I took the cartridges out to clean this weekend. After putting the filter back together, I added the DE through the skimmer. After a short while it all started pouring back into the...

    Spillover Spa losing water

There was no check valve I could see. The water in the spa drops well below the water in the pool. Could that still be the issue?

    Spillover Spa losing water

We just bought a new home over the winter, so I'm a first time pool owner. We opened and filled the pool/spa about 2 weeks ago. The water levels were fine for the first week. But the past 6 mornings, I wake up and the spillover spa is down about 6-8 inches of water overnight. The pump does...

How to fun pump with spillover spa

Just bought a new house over the winter with an inground pool and an attached spillover spa. The water can be pumped from either the pool or the spa. And the return can be directed to either the pool or the spa as well. The guy at the pool store said I can pull from the pool and return to the...
