Is a new pump worth it?

I've been battling pipe leakage for about 2 years, and I've had multiple people recommend replacing my pump. I believe a variable speed pump (of some type) would improve things (water lose & electrical usage), and with it's installation- install new pipes and connectors. I'm looking for some...

    CYA Testing Error 🤔

Yes, that's my main question about having such low CYA. I'll test it again with the new reagents when it arrives, but I've only done regular backwashes, I haven't drained it, but I seem to always be low on stabilizer for some reason.

    CYA Testing Error 🤔

I keep a notebook with all my test numbers, and at the end of last summer (Sept 27), the CYA tested at about 45. It sounds like I just need a lot more stabilizer. Would I only lose stabilizer through back washing?

    CYA Testing Error 🤔

Well, I filled up the CYA viewing tube to the top, and could see the black dot at the bottom. It was crystal clear. I just ordered new reagents for my test kit, so I'll test again when it arrives. Currently, I added a pound of stabilizer to the pool using the sock method.

I do keep my test kit inside, and you're right about buying new reagents and chemicals.

    CYA Testing Error 🤔

Hello, This morning I tested the CYA level in my pool, and the number was ZERO. Last week, I'd put 2 cups of stabilizer in a sock for dispersion, and so I'm trying to determine if I really just need more stabilizer, or could there be an error with chemical R-0013 that I used in my CYA test. My...

    New Pool Vacuum Needed 🎁🎈🎉

Great advice, thanks everybody. I originally was planning to purchase a new suction cleaner, but now I'm looking at all these robot cleaners. o_O My pool isn't huge, so I'm leaning toward a simple suction cleaner. I'll keep you posted on what I buy and how it goes.

    New Pool Vacuum Needed 🎁🎈🎉

Yesterday I took in my 2009 Hayward pool vacuum for repairs to my trusted local pool store. They have informed me that repairs will be around $200. I asked how much a new vacuum would be, since it seems that I have needed repairs every 4-6 months. He said I could buy a new Hayward vacuum for...

    Tiles, Tiles, Tiles

My son was just swimming in the pool and grabbed a couple tiles from the bottom of the pool. Not sure if he knocked these off, or they really did come off, but I needed recommendation for how to put them back onto the pool border wall. The water level usually is about in the middle of the tiles...

    Light Bulb

I'm not sure how I should repair this pool light. I'm about to change out the breaker and the switch incase those parts are causing the trouble (electrically), and then I'd need some help with this socket corrosion. I'd prefer not snaking a new cord through and installing a new light socket if I...

    Light Bulb

Does anyone know how best to diagnose the pool light? I'm beginning to think it could be the switch or the breaker? There does seem to be corrosion in the socket. That's why I'm nervous about putting in a new bulb and "seeing what happens", or just biting the bullet and buying a whole new casing.

    Light Bulb

I have a single light in my pool and it hasn’t been turning on. I took out the light unit and the inside seems moist. I wasn’t the installer, but is this case shot? should I put in a new bulb and see what happens or just buy a new bulb case? (I’m not trying to electrocute myself)

    ?? vacuum hose ??

My hose is seriously twisted and tangled, and I need some help. Normally I'll keep a leaf catching basket attached, but I've taken that off, and now the hose is always twisting even after I've disconnected the sections and pulled it out of the water for a while. Is there an easy solution I can't...

    Scrub Harder?

I’ve gotten my pool out of winter mode and it’s ready for summer. Here in AZ it’s been 100 degrees and my balance is cool ? I have some weird stains in some corners and areas of my pool. I’ve slammed the pool a couple weeks ago and that did nothing to the stains. Am I not scrubbing hard...

    Is CH my problem?

Thanks everyone for the SLAM advice. I think I'll bring the chlorine levels way up and keep them high until the algae clears out. I will update you hopefully in a couple days of my clear pool (fingers crossed).

    Is CH my problem?

Practically all summer long, my pool has been cool. I'll take the simple test kit out every other day and check the chlorine and pH levels, and I'll simply just add an amount of liquid chlorine or muriatic acid. I keep leave out of the pool and brush it a couple times a week. Everything had been...

    What's Pop'n... Are they Popping?

I have several pop-ups that will pop up and clean, and then I've got the majority that do... nothing. Are the pop-ups in my pool something I need to worry or care about? I've been in this house and with this pool for about 5 years, and I'm able to run my vacuum, and add chemicals, and things...

Vacuum Can't Get Past Drain Cover

 I believe my drain cover is either too large, or maybe not large enough. I've had this problem for a while, and wanted some opinions. I have a Hayward vacuum (with it's own set of issues), and it runs/works great. I typically take it into the pool store once/twice a season for new pads...

Pool is pretty good! I added some Chlorine Thursday morning, and then had a big ol' swim party Friday night. This morning my readings are as follows: FC) 2 CC) 0 CH) 450 TA) 150 CYA) 50 pH) 8.2 My current plan today is bring down the pH, and then later add in a lot of chlorine.

    A Week of Vacation

I've got a vacation trip  that I'll embark on for about 7 days- and I'm looking for some pool advice. If my pool is balanced and looking good, then should I just dump a gallon of chlorine in, and then head off to the airport? What's the easiest/best plan without finding a neighbor to come...

    Drained and Filled, now what

The water itself is clear. I'm having trouble with my vacuum picking up all the particles of dust. I'll put the vacuum back in the pool and let it run and see if that helps pick up all the tiny bits. Usually I'll just brush and sweep to get dust moving toward the basket and filter.

    Drained and Filled, now what

Thanks for the suggestions and advise. I'm a school teacher and so currently I've got a lot of free-time during the days and weeks. I've definitely been scooping out leaves and brushing the pool almost daily. I'll make myself more diligent about keeping the pH levels lower and keeping the...
