I already have the TF100 kit.

So as the FC drops it should change back? It's at 7.5 as of this morning. EDIT: Just tested my salt and it's at 4200. This pool math app is not very accurate for salt content I guess. Now it says I need to drain and replace 17% of my water.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Passed the SLAM last night and added the salt today. But now the water is a clear green. We got in a little after adding the salt to help move any deposits around. Any ideas what could cause this? The ladder for the pool is metal and plastic, could that cause it?

Okay so 170 it is then. I was down to 3.5ppm FC this morning. Assuming I didn't good it up last night, that's a big drop. I added enough CYA and Bleach to get me to 12/30 this morning as well.

I did the alch again and got 160 as very very slightly red and 170 as definitely obviously red. I wish this came with example colors to shoot for lol.

Yeah I got the TF100. Oh, no I didn't wipe it. Must have missed that bit. I'll test it again in a bit and update this. The water is still perfectly clear. Should I leave the FC and CYA tonight to see if it drops? The water is still just as clear as the day I filled it.

No. Just got my kit today. So this is my initial test since filling on Saturday.

Here is where I am at. I think the water here is just very calcified. Suggestions or should I just go off the app?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

I won't get my test kit until Monday sadly. Can you swim during shock levels?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Got it pretty darn well cleaned out. Can it be swam in at shock levels? Or will I even need to slam it?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Just got this photo from my lady. About 10" left in the pool right now with the utility pump off. Now I just gotta figure out the easiest way to get this gunk out of the bottom without a proper way to pump to waste or anything.

Good point on the Clarity aspect. Looking forward to getting this project finished. The lady says she's tired of me spending all my free time dealing with the pool. And I agree. Haha.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Well okay, 100% isn't gonna be possible. But at least 90%. I'll be at 12" of water this evening before I go to bed and turn the pump off. I'll be up at 3 am on saturday to start smoking some pork shoulder for guests and will kick the pump on then to get it good and low. Might even rig the old...

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Alright, so ill get CYA to 30ppm and FC to 5ppm according to pool math. Get my kit, get my Ph set and then pump up the FC to 12 to slam?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Alright, Alright. I'll forget the strips then altogether. So all of my new equipment(pump/SWG/filter/skimmer/robo cleaner) will be here satruday, but the test kit won't be here till monday. If I get the pool refilled by Sunday, should I wait till monday to add anything to the water? Or use pool...

This. This I like. The test strips make sense to me for just a quick reassurance everyday that I jump in that nothing is out of wack, if something looks off, break out the real tests. In my mind it's a logical way to save the TF100 from overuse. It'll still get a full test often even if the...

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Well I went with the Taylor salt water testing kit. It cost about $15 more than strips, but I saved $16 on shipping. So really its a break even on that point. I'll probably get test strips just to randomly check for things going out of wack and then pull out the TF100 if something seems off.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Yeah I just found out about the PoolMath beta app for my phone and got in on that. That will make life MUCH easier. Even suggest's what to use. I think i'll be good to go now. Thanks everyone. I'll be back to post pictures as I progress.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Okay, im gonna buck up for the TF100 XL + salt kit. Now lemme get these steps straight and ask a few more questions. Steps: 1) Water level is low now so finish scrubbing walls with bleach/water and get every bit of debris out that I can. 2) Refill pool 3) Get CYA/FC to shock levels and PH...

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Well like I said, the water is down to about 16" now, and I know you all suggest to keep at least 12" to prevent liner shrinkage. A Scrub down/Vacuum of the final bit will be happening before refill. Would this kit get the job done? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hth-6-Way-Test-Kit/101959375 If not...

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Oh a bit I forgot to add. This pool will be taken down once it's too cold to enjoy it. Does that change anything that I need to worry about? Yes, yes it is. Well not actually 4' of water. But 4' tall yes.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Darn you people and your logic! So best bang for my buck. TF-100 Kit with the salt test strips would cover all of my testing needs correct? Is there anything comparable on Amazon? That way I can get it hopefully before this weekend.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

It's not a perfect situation, but i'll make it work for the time being.

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

What do you mean the strips only go to 5?
  25. P

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

It's something i'll just pick up later to diminish the upfront costs. Right yeah, I was looking at the SWG part before I realized I would SLAM it as non-swg. Thanks!
  26. P

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Okay I get what your saying. So just worry about CYA/FC for the slam portion and then worry about everything else once that is complete? For the Slam I'll treat the CYA/FC as a Non-SWG to since there is no added salt in the system currently correct?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Can you be a little more specific than that?

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Yikes, thats a lot of money for a testing kit, well over $100 for that is silly. I already have these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PZZFN3Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER so i'll use those for the time being and move up to a more legit kit at a later date. So...

New Pool Owner Moving To Salt

Hello Everyone! I could use some words of wisdom here. I purchased a home this past winter and the previous owners left us the pool. Now that it's warming up out, it's time to rectify that mess. It is a 15' Coleman pool. I purchased a new Intex 2500gph filter pump and a intex SWG to go along...
