    Quick hot tub TA question

Thanks guys. I don’t know what is in the pillow either and I tried to find out because they are ridiculously expensive. I think I’m just going to buy a portable water softener for future fills. To be honest there is a lot about the spa I’m a little hazy on like why CH has to be so low for the...

    Quick hot tub TA question

And I apologize I went back and read my previous post and noticed I said TA was falling with baking soda which I am sure led to confusion. TA was increasing with baking soda, but ph was not moving much. Not sure what I was thinking when I typed that.

    Quick hot tub TA question

Finally making progress. There was no change over night. Ph is still 7.8 with a TA of 30, and chlorine increased from 9 to 10.5 with the cell at its max setting so either the obsessive cleaning, the new cell, or both appears to have fixed that problem. Prior to last night I have never seen an...

    Quick hot tub TA question

yes I have been adding dry acid as the amounts of muriatic acid seem so small. I’ve also added about 1/2 of my dichlor (for a CYA of 30) before switching to bleach. Other than that I’ve added salt to the lower end of the range, used the Hotsprings calcium remover pillow to get to their...

    Quick hot tub TA question

Last check ph is 7.8 and TA is 30. I’m going to stop adding anything and see what it is in the morning.

    Quick hot tub TA question

Thanks for the info, I did not know that about the color change and extra drop. I’m shouting for 7.6. So for an update I woke up this morning to a TA of 10, and ph of 6.8. I thought maybe I had messed up a test so repeated and got the same result. I thought it was great because now the numbers...

    Quick hot tub TA question

That’s what I have always done with the pool, but my TA is 20 (actually started to change color on the first drop so maybe between 10 and 20). I just don’t have experience with jets aerating the water so much. Maybe I just checked it after adding too much too fast. I’ll check it in the morning...

    Quick hot tub TA question

Fill water had a TA of 80, ph of 8.2. I’ve been adding acid over a 24 hr period and finally got down to 7.4 but the TA is now 20 which seems really low (at least based on my pool experience). Maybe I just need to wait a day or two, and let things settle out and see where I end up. I just got...

    Quick hot tub TA question

I’ve had a pool for a few years but recently bought a hot tub. As far as TA goes, if it’s low and I add baking soda, it will raise the ph. If I then add acid to bring it down, that coupled with the aeration of the jets seems like it would just lower the TA and I’ll be stuck in an endless cycle...

    New liner chemical problem

That’s why I was asking, the results made no sense and my results have been making sense for 2 years straight now. I’ll pay closer attention to that, thank you.

    New liner chemical problem

Here are the test Results since filling. I did not log the initial test of the water since I knew I would be adding things. The chlorine drop was because the water had started to grow a bit of Algae after 3 days of filling.

    New liner chemical problem

Fill water was pH of about 8.0, CH 125-150, TA of 140. No auto fill on the pool, and it was a new liner replacement with complete fill earlier in the week.

    New liner chemical problem

TF 100 TA has been increasing by 10 per day since Thursday. Started at 140, now 160.

    New liner chemical problem

Just finished filling the pool (city water) on Thursday and added bleach, and salt and started up the pump. I also added muratic acid as the starting pH was around 8.0, after waiting a few hours it was 7.6, then 7.4 on Friday (which is where I shoot for since I tend to trend upward with a SWG)...

    First Time Algae Warrior

I don’t have the expertise many here do, but since no one has replied yet..... I would not add any CYA. Doing so would just require you to maintain higher SLAM levels. If your not familiar with the SLAM method, check out pool school. Run pump 24 hrs a day and continue the SLAM until you pass...

Umbrella hole in concrete decking, size help?

I have metal ones which have a bolt to tighten the umbrella with. They are larger than most metal umbrellas. We did put a wood umbrella in it once and left it overnight. The wood soaked up the water and swelled. My only option was to cut it off and spend an hour drilling the wood out. Now we...

Fountain coolers--what performance are you getting?

I have a single fountain and see that it decreases the speed of temp rise during the day, but have switched over to running the pump at night with it on. Without it we get a 2 degree temp drop at night, with it we get up to 7 degree drop. If it's windy it seems to help. Have needed to add more...

    New pool owner question

I talked with my pool builder yesterday and he gave me instructions on how to remove the lights. Everyone had algae growing in the niche area the light slides into and on the part of the light that goes into the niche. I scrubbed it off, treated a few times with bleach while the lights were out...

    "no flow"

I'm by no means experienced, only replying since mine did this 3 hours ago after vacuuming. I put mine panel in service mode for 20-30 secs then turned it back on and it seemed to work. Not sure if that will help you or not.

    New pool owner question

Thanks for the advice. Glad to know I did not jump the gun on the SLAM. I'll keep after it, and hopefully I can safely pull the covers off the lights and clean them better. It actually seems to have great circulation, but the light covers are a dome shape that only have about a 1/4 inch...

    New pool owner question

I have been lurking since spring and have to start by saying thanks for all you have taught me. I just bought this house and, now 2 year old pool, towards the end of last summer. After opening this year I ordered the TF 100 kit and the pool has been very easy to maintain (thanks to every...

    Jandy Laminar jet trouble shooting.

I found an adjustment screw on the actual laminar jet that, for whatever reason, became unadjusted during the winter. Took some time to get it adjusted since a tiny turn of the screw adjusted the jet flow height by multiple feet. I ended up just adjusting all 4 of them to match. Thanks for the...

    Jandy Laminar jet trouble shooting.

Bought a house last August with a 1 year old pool. Pool builders were maintaining it last year, closed it, and opened this year before handing it over to us to maintain. All 4 laminar jets were working great last year before closing, since opening this year 3 are working as before (shooting into...
