    Filter woes

I opened the filter again and took a look at things. The air bleed house had come off so I just stuck it back on again. Not really sure how that thing is supposed to be secured, but the pressure of inserting by hand seemed like it might be enough to hold it. I also noticed the o-ring on the...

    Filter woes

I reassembled the filter with the new grids. There's a pretty steady slow drip on one side of the filter housing (maybe a drop every five seconds or so). I'm also hearing an intermittent swishing sound from inside the filter, maybe every 20 or 30 seconds. Sounds sort of like a dishwasher, but...

    Floc without filter

I believe I've killed the algae by recirculating and slamming. It's to the point to where it's blue and cloudy now. I added floc and the pump has been off for about 5 days now, but the floc doesn't seem to have done anything towards making stuff settle. I have the parts to reassemble my filter...

    Filter woes

@Realaxpooltech Thanks for the feedback. I'll add a little glue and not over-tighten those wing nuts. The bottoms of some of the grids had some broken plastic, which may have been a clue that they were overtightened before.

    Filter woes

After finally getting this thing out I noticed the manifold can separate if I apply a little pressure. Is this a concern since it will be held together with a wing nut when reassembled? If so should I try to glue it with some pvc glue, or am I better off dropping the 120 bucks for a new part?

    Floc without filter

We've got a city line that's metered for irrigation. I'm used to replacing water, as much as I'd rather not.

    Floc without filter

My de filter grids need replacing. I couldn't get them out for the longest time and I thought I was going to have to cut a pipe or just get a new filter. Finally got the infernal thing unscrewed today. It will be middle of next week before I'll have grids.

    Filter woes

After two years of trying I finally got this filter apart. I used a big pipe wrench to hold the top of the union and a strap wrench to turn the part that needed turning(clockwise). It was almost easy enough to make me mad. Almost every filter grid had tears near the top where they connect to the...

    Floc without filter

I had a pool maintenance guy check out my broken filter the other day and he told me I could start tackling my green pool while I serviced my filter. He said I could set my multiport valve to recirculate and start adding chlorine to kill the algae and get things blue again. He then recommended...

    Filter woes

@Realaxpooltech I purchased two different couplings. If what you were referring to is like the one on the left, you think just slotting the pipes into the union is enough to keep it secure without gluing? Awesome if so. Would make removal easy easier in the future.

    Filter woes

Interesting idea to use the collar, @Realaxpooltech. I'll have to get a cable saw. I saw a full set of grids of Amazon for $155. I may give this a shot.

I'll try to get an actual photo up later, but here's an illustration from the manual.

    Filter woes

Over the last pool season my Sta-rite S7D75 filter has been sending increasing amounts of DE back into my pool. Pretty obviously worn out filter grids. I've tried and failed to remove the manifold that holds the grids in so I called a maintenance guy to see if he would have better luck, and he...

Looking for a contractor for repairs in Greenville SC

When I closed my pool last fall I noticed a few issues that need addressing that I'm not feeling up to handling on my own. One is DE filter screens that need replacing that I can't get out of the housing, and the other is a small leak I noticed in the plumbing near the pump. I'd like to find...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

In an update to this ongoing saga I'm finally draining water so that I can attempt blowing out the lines again. I'm currently pumping to waste and noticed water leaking out of the valve on my vacuum line. I don't use the vac line since there is an underground pipe leak. Apparently ice has broken...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

No ice aside from what I could see in the backwash pipe. Filter is empty and set on recirculation. Can't afford to have a firm come out. If my pipes break I guess I'll just have a lot more free time next summer. And a liner I'm still paying off :( Pretty sure I can do this if I can just get...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

I'm struggling in the twelfth hour to get this done, and I'm having trouble finding the free time to do it. The current cold wave we're experiencing has got me worried about my pipes. I keep checking under my pool cover(mesh) to see if anything looks frozen, and so far everything seems liquid. I...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

I believe it is 1.5 in pipe. I bought a Central Pneumatic compressor with an 8 gallon tank from Harbor Freight specifically to do this because I couldn't get my shop vac to do the trick. I'm wondering if I left too much water in the lines before trying to blow them out.

    Having trouble blowing out lines

I tried one side at a time, plugging the opposite line inside the pump basket. I had my compressor set to around 30psi. The water level was below the returns when I covered the pool, but since it has rained a bit since then the level is now half covering the returns. I guess I need to get my...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

I tried again with my compressor and I'm still not having success. How long should it need to run before I start seeing water move? The blowthru plug I ordered was bigger than most of my plumbing, so I just ended up attaching my compressor hose to where the pump drain plug was. I tried closing...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

Ok, sorry, still not 100% sure I understand. Didn't quite grasp how the blowout plug works at first. Would I be hooking the compressor to the blowout plug at the suction and return ports in the basket to blow out the lines?

    Having trouble blowing out lines

So, if I understand correctly, I need to get a plug similar to what I use on my returns to cap each line from my pump basket. For suction side(skimmer) I'll cap the pipe that is sending water out of my pump and use the compressor with NPT fitting to blow about 30psi of air into the opening for...

    Having trouble blowing out lines

Hi Catazaro. The shop vac did work for me last year. Thinking back I may have blown out the lines before draining. Not sure how that would have made things easier, though. Blowing air through one side at a time makes sense, but I don't own a compressor. I'm also unclear on which npt fitting I...
