    Maytronics Prowler 920 Weekly Timer

Thanks for that. I wasn’t sure if it did only run a week. We had a really gnarly sand storm out here near Palm Springs, and pools everywhere are trashed.

    Maytronics Prowler 920 Weekly Timer

Hi All, I'm trying to figure out if the Prowler 920 (*Same as Dolphin Active 20/S200) controller maintains its weekly timer past one week of work? It's selected to run its cleaning cycle every 3rd day. It's a new unit and at a house I only check on every other week or so. I can't seem to tell...

Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater no ignition

Ok, got the breaker to flip and now have power at the heater (voltage tester gets 24v at transformer). Still no light. Next step is replacing the Honeywell ignition controller. Ideas?

    Stripped PVC Threads Auto-Fill

If memory serves, I actually found it on a simple web search from a company such as PVC Fittings Online. It’s a very compact part. HD/Lowes didn’t have it, but for pool fixes Amazon often had 3rd party sellers of non-standard PVC parts. Are you fixing the same thing as I tried to?

Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater no ignition

I took a no-contact voltage tester and got no reading. It’s supposed to sense 10v min-1000v, so it’s strange I didn’t get any reading, even the 220v. It’s not my house, so I didn’t know where the pool equipment breakers are. Now that I do, and I’m hoping to take a look next visit, along with...

Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater no ignition

I bypassed the safeties and still no spark, so I haven’t individually tested them. Pilot ignition looks fine. No spark passed the gap when I removed the wire. That’s what’s leading more conclusively to ignition module—and yes it could also be gas valve still. Is the Honeywell S8610U the best...

Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater no ignition

I hear ya Matt. I’ve been in this scenario with 2 other heaters now. My feeling is if it’s a failed exchanger, then ya, it’s a new unit. These units are so bulletproof, and solid-state and thus more repairable than the new units. If I can get it working, for a reasonable amount, then I feel it...

Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater no ignition

My parents have a 1994 Teledyne Lars Series 2 Heater that’s been in hibernation since COVID struck. Model is ESC250N. It was working 2 years ago, but now when the thermostat (potentiometers) move, I do hear a ‘click’ that it’s recognized temperature, but nothing else and it’s not igniting. My...

Any update on this—my Alexa skill is gone. Haven’t used it in months but what’s up? Did Pentair remove the skill from Alexa?

Simple solution to fix a pool heater ground problem

That’s a good tip. I’ve had to do similar as ground locations have rusted. A sheet metal screw with bare threaded wire wrapped around (drilled into sheet metal) may help to get it anchored better.

    Hayward Heater Gusher

I'm going to give the home warranty a try. It has the rider for this type of coverage and the fine print does allow up to and including replacement. This weekend I'll put the thing back together. I actually have pictures and even video of the leak that I guess I could show them? It's a $75...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Well the drama continues. I realized that with the new home, I have a home warranty with a rider for the pool/spa equipment where they will diagnose, analyze and repair/replace pool heater up to $3,000. I’ve already bypassed the heater. I took the exchanger out, but it’s no big deal to put it...

    Pool heater repair

You were spot on, the size and shape of the non-OEM oring was off. What an awful piece of kit. The OEM bypass kit has the correct gasket. It has an oval shape, meaning the circumference of the actual gasket material is like a flat oval shape. Anyways, it’s all getting returned since I’m...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

I’ve completed the bypass, I feel like a cardiac surgeon ;) I’d venture for the 400btu, but that’s when gas line size/volume starts to be of concern. I’m going to try with yheRP2100 336k, and Inyopools seems to have the best price but I appreciate the Polytech recommendation, I’ll price it if...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Allen, I concur. I’ve had a 266k btu for my last pool and it worked just fine, and I just can’t tell if Raypak’s 266k => Hayward 300k; but I’ve resolved to get the 336k Raypak RP2100. Is really like a commercial ASME with the cast iron headers, . I liken the problem I’m having (as many do) as...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Jim, I'm leaning in this direction--to simply use 2 2" 90s and make a bypass and dispose of the old heater until I get the new one. That gives me some time. I've removed the heat exchanger in about 30 minutes and toyed with the idea of simply replacing it, but it's just not worth that much...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Thanks Jim, Wish I had better news. The bottom bolts (ha! Stainless?) are seized and one sheared off. I see a new heater in my future. The exchanger is really rusty too, but if I could/can still fix the manifold temporarily I’d be in good shape for a few more months. Oh well. In the meantime...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

I‘ve got the kits all set to complete the repair—-at least lets hope. My current feeling is that the thermostat is locked up and rusted. Maybe the flow diverted is a problem as well, who knows. Seems totally reasonable as the Thermostat unit is so old that any 18 year old thermostat on a car...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

@ajw22 Hey Allen, do you have any guidance on my gushing heater? I’m wondering if I should look beyond the manifold/header for source of the leak that’s only leaking from header/exchanger mate surface, when heat is on. -Kevin

    Hayward Heater Gusher

No worries @Jimrahbe it’s always good to hear from you—happy holidays! I went ahead and ordered a new bypass valve and flow control thermostat. I found a normally $35 thermostat, for $5 so the fix will (hopefully) be just under $50 I’ve realized that the lion share of the work is R&R of the...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

@Jimrahbe Any thoughts? The heater is 18 years old, so it’s lifespan concerns me, but it works and most heaters here in the desert are low-use and aren’t too prone to rust. I got home from work and found it's only beginning to leak when the heater kicks on. The flow rate & pressure aren't the...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Yep, I figure I'll get the non-OEM, but there's a bunch of retailers on there so who knows--anyways it's already on the way. I think I'll just use is to remove the header and see what's going on, replace the oring tentatively and see if I need to get more parts. In your experience, do you...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

Thanks, I hope the one I get works. Did you get to use any rtv sealant on yours? @swamprat69 I already quickly ordered a $7 o-ring from Amazon, so I can get on the repair ASAP, and debated whether to get the Bypass Valve repair kit for $43, since I like to replace as much as possible when it’s...

    Hayward Heater Gusher

My Hayward H300 is interrupting my plans for a nice Sunday soak. the pump was on high, pressure is fine (18 psi) at 2900 rpm. Water is dribbling out at a good pace from the header. In the image, you can see top bolts showing rust and the water seems to be coming out of the top area there; the...

    Water heater: Tank or Tankless

I researched the Official Grundfos digital timer (THIS ONE) FOR $45. I have many Wifi plugs now and love the flexibility. I wonder if there’s a danger in using one for the pump? How are they different? The Official one is awful and SO confusing to program. I love the idea of setting a WiFi...
