    Do phosphates matter?

Yesterday I watched about 4 videos including the first one you reccomended, but mine was an LED, PAL-2T2 light fitted with LAU-2 Color Lock Lamp. But as I said, I disconnected the wires at the box going to the lights. No juice coming to the pool. Was really hoping I would find algae in it so I...

    Do phosphates matter?

Sure was hoping to find a green monster behind the lights, but no. Not sure if these lights were to be taken out in the water. Six screws, a gasket, O-ring and bubbles came out when I pulled the lights. I disonnected them at the box, don't use them anyway. I'll bump my FC to 7 after the slam and...

    Do phosphates matter?

I'll check on the light. From reading about Eeeek, the monster behind the light, I gather you don't have to drain the water to below the light to remove it.

    Do phosphates matter?

No problem. Glad I found this site 2 years ago because my PB didn't inform me very much about pool maintenance. All I know that really helps came from TFP. I do feel like I've got a good handle on it, but it's aggravating that although I'm following the wisdom of pool owners like you and others...

    Do phosphates matter?

I brush or vacuum weekly and the 1-1/2 hp pump circulates real well. No removal stairs. On this Radiant Metric pool I was able to get inground steps. Since my first post, I googled about the phosphates and most opinions are like yours, they are algae food, but don't cause it. Plus 500 isn't...

    Do phosphates matter?

And herein lies the problem. As I stated earlier, 2 months ago I slammed the pool. I know that a slam is not complete until it passes a OCLT, which it did. And I kept the FC at least at 6. Shouldn't have an algae problem again, but I did. My original post was asking about phosphates because I...

    Do phosphates matter?

Just noticed the algae today and started a slam. It was 2 months ago when I had to slam before. I did the whole process according to TFP and water was crystal clear until today. Surely there wasn't any algae left from then and FC hasn't been below 6 since then. I know the leaves are starting to...

    Do phosphates matter?

I have seen on TFP that phosphates don't matter. I have kept my pool at FC-6-7, PH -7.6, CYA-80, TA-60-70, have yet to have any CC's. I have had algae twice in the last 2 months. I have a TF -100 test kit but I took a sample to Leslies today and they say the reason I have gotten algae is...

Confused over the best SWG for my pool

Don't know about Texas, but in Alabama if your neighbor's tree are extending over the property line into your yard, you have the right to trim them. It's a good idea to get permission in writing before you do so, then everything is covered legally.

    DE

That's what I thought. Probably because my PB told me to backwash every week. I see now I don't need to do that. THANKS!

    DE

It freezes some, but I keep the pump running when below 33*. Yes, I had a little algae (shouldn't have because I keep FC at 5, CYA at 70) so I slammed it and cleared it up. I decided to add some DE to filter better.

    DE

Is it possible that when you add DE to the sand filter that it can come out and settle to the bottom of your pool? I've vacuumed up white stuff that appears to be DE everyday since I put some in. Seems like it is just going right through the filter.

    Backwashing

So even during a slam don't backwash til pressure rises or do you want to get the algea out of the filter by backwashing often?
  14. jspann1953

    Backwashing

I will have my pool a year next month. The sand filter always reads 12 psi. I see that the recommendations to backwash is when it rises 20-25%, but mine never rises. Even during a slam. I do backwash about every other week though. PB recommended every week. Am I backwashing too much or is there...

    Algae or what?

Finished the slam Christmas day. Looks real good now. Thanks again Kim and Pat. I will become a supporter after first of the year.

    Algae or what?

Thanks Texas Splash, ya'll been a great help; especially for someone with his first pool.

    Algae or what?

Slam almost complete. But I'm still not losing any FC during the day (been very cloudy here) or overnight and CC has always been 0. Question is should I add some clorine neutralizer to get the FC down to 6-7 after I'm certain the algae is gone? Don't want to fade the liner or damage something...

Any Above ground pools out there that have been burried? if so LETS SEE....THEM

Inground completely on one end with inground steps. As the slope of my yard goes down, the pool finally ends up buried about a foot on the other end.

    Algae or what?

At first the return jet eyeball did not circulate the water very well. Hardly anything went to the skimmer, just settled on the in ground steps. PB put a right turn elbow on which made it work great. No dead spots. I consider my pool a non SWG now since the water temp is in low 50's and have...

    Algae or what?

Ok, I sucked some of the ?? stuff up, put it on a paper towel and let it dry. I put that piece on top of another one for comparison, but as you can see, there's not much to see. It looks green on the white steps and and just dark in the heelprints on the bottom vinyl floor and when you brush...

    Algae or what?

New pool this summer. Water has been crystal clear and all chem. levels good. FC 5.5, CC 0, PH 7.6, CYA 50. I noticed on 12-11-16 what I thought to be algae on the bottom of pool and on the steps, even though water is still clear. So after reading about slamming, I tried it. Scubbed and...

    Algea? Or what?

What about the use of the solar blanket? Can it have an effect on the algae problem? I never had any algae til I put the blanket on this fall. All chem. levels were the same as in the summer and the water was crystal clear.

    FC levels?

I know what you mean. Seems like my pool builder is clueless when it comes to the chemistry. He started it with way to much salt and didn't advise me on cya at all. I think all the info I need is on this site. (thank goodness )

RINSING graduated cylinder before test makes a difference

I notice you have a Tiger Shark. Will yours climb halfway up the wall? I thought they were supposed to. Mine sometimes will climb, but only when going backward.

    FC levels?

Thanks. I have the FC at 3.5 and have checked out the ABC's. Very informative. Just wondering why all the difference on who you ask. Seems like it would be pretty standard.
