    Compatibility of Maytronics cables

Hi, I have a Maytronic-made Pentair Warrior SE. The swivel cable is failing - I've been able to resurrect it a couple of times but it's on the way out. The robot currently works fine - but it is 4 years old. I'm hopeful it'll continue to run fine but realistically it's closer to the end of its...

    S200/Warrior "vent" clogging with leaves

The rubber flap behind the rotating brush? That had popped off earlier and I reattached it. Looks like maybe I should replace it with a new one. Thanks for the direction!

    S200/Warrior "vent" clogging with leaves

Hi, I have a Pentair Warrior SE. Recently, the blue "vent" on the top front of the device clogs with leaves. When this happens, it loses suction and loses the ability to climb the walls. The pool is not full of leaves or anything horrible. I can clean everything out of the warrior and the...

    Pentair Warrior SE cord tangling.

Was having similar issues. What I found with mine was that a stick had entered the impeller and knocked the impeller cover loose. This was preventing it from turning properly. I follow the procedure to clean the impeller and reset the housing and all is good again.

    Polaris pool cleaner tail

Mine does the same (I have a 280, but have the 'pro' tailsweep on mine because without it, the cleaner ends up spraying the windows on the house closest to the pool). It seems to be a design flaw to me. Good news is that it's only problematic for me during times when lots of leaves, twigs, etc...

    Converting DE6020 to cartridge?

I made a similar change, though mine was more Frankensteined. I had a neighbor with a Pentair 520 sqft filter that had a cracked housing. I stole the internal parts and tinkered around to get them to fit in my Hayward DE housing. I did not remove the backwash value or switch the inlet /...

    Ants in my brush pole

Ants keep establishing themselves a home in my brush pole. They seem to be carpenter ants and they they come out en masse when you use the brush, which is fun for neither swimmers or the cleaner (and probably not for the ants, either). I've tried using ant bait and other pesticides and it...

    How to block a skimmer?

I need to replace o-rings in a Jandy valve that is the first valve in my plumbing setup. My equipment sits below the level of the pool, so water will flow out if I don't block it. My skimmers are Baker Hydros. These come with a 'plate' that you install on top of the skimmer basket/sock for...

DE to Cartridge - Who has made the switch?

I converted my existing filter from DE to cartridge after getting tired of the DE mess. I can't say I notice any difference in water clarity. Looks just as clear now as it did with the DE. Probably cleaner because I inevitably ended up with DE in the pool. From what I can read, human vision...

    Baker Hydro Skimmer Questions

Are you talking about the clear plastic skimmer plate that goes over the skimmer basket/sock thing? If so, mine get stuck all the time. I only use them when vacuuming though. To get them loose, I use a pair of lineman's pliers and gently pull up one side and once it breaks loose, it's easy to...

Is a VS pump the right choice for my pool and its current plumbing?

Sorry - the comment on runtime was in response to PoolMedic's suggestion that you could get similar savings by shutting the pump off more. The relationship between pump speed and gallons per minute is linear, so running the same pump at half speed would move half the water. You could set your...

Is a VS pump the right choice for my pool and its current plumbing?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't expect properly chlorinated water to grow mold. Seems that would have to be coming from something else. Variable and 2 speed pump savings are dramatic. I'm seeing over 70% reduction in power usage, which works out to about $65/mth during the summer. Sure you...

    DE Comments

I found the de cleaning to be annoying as well. Wait until you have to take the thing apart for the annual "deep cleaning". Not sure which part was worse, cleaning it, struggling to put it back together or ending up with de in the pool because I didn't successfully put the Rubik's cube of...

    Pentair 520 to DE conversion

I just went the other way - converted my DE filter to cartridge. It should be a pretty simple thing as filters are pretty simple, but as you mentioned you will need a backwash valve and may need to replumb inlets and outlets to match. I personally found DE to be really messy, especially the...

Energy savings from a 2 speed pump

You can automate the switching between speeds on a 2 speed pump. They make timers specifically for that, or you could use one of the motors with the timer built in. I'm not aware of any 2 speed motors that let you adjust rpms, though. So far as I understand, the 3450/1725 rpm thing is a...

Need new motor. Variable speed with salt chlorinators?

Awesome - glad to hear it worked out. I agree about skimming working as well or better on low. I'm not sure of the dynamics on that, but I have similar results and feel like I'm pulling more stuff out of the skimmers running on low than I did when I was always running on full speed.

Energy savings from a 2 speed pump

I did the install myself. It was just a motor swap on an old pump, so no warranty to worry about. On run times, our pool is surrounded by trees, so I typically run the pump longer than I otherwise could in order to keep the skimmers going. This time of year with the SWG off because it's too...

Are SWG's really worth the hype? your experience beforevsafter, recommend type

I can't ever imagine having a pool without automated chlorine delivery. I want to enjoy my pool, not babysit it. The SWG is the simplest way to automate delivery that I've found. On cost, for my math, it's a no-brainer. I am using the Circupool SJ55. I purchased it during one of their...

Energy savings from a 2 speed pump

I'm running the 2 speed pump on low for 8 hours a day. I was running the old pump 6-7 hours a day this time last year. I use an swg for chlorine generation and that's what typically dictates my run times.

Energy savings from a 2 speed pump

I recently changed from a full rated 1.5hp single speed pump motor to a 1.5hp dual speed pump motor. I've been tracking energy usage and thought I'd share my findings. I'm comparing the 4 weeks ending 2/21/2018 to the 4 weeks ending 2/21/2017. Weather conditions were slightly colder in 2018...

Converting a Hayward DE Filter to Cartridge

I'm considering switching from current DE6020 to a cartridge system because I find the DE cleaning and back-washing to be a messy pain. (I've read the wonderful guides an how-tos, but I still end up covered in powder, with my yard looking like a winter wonderland, and inevitably end up with DE...

Need new motor. Variable speed with salt chlorinators?

This is the switch I used: Gardner Bender 20 Amp Single-Pole Toggle Switch (1-Pack)-GSW-13 - The Home Depot Wiring is easy. You have 2 load lines coming from the timer. One goes directly to the pump, one goes to the switch. From the switch, two lines go to the motor (you'll reuse one of...

Programming VSP, GPM and cost per month... Check my numbers please

I doubt you need to run the pump on high to satisfy the booster pump. They don't actually push a bunch of water, they just push it at high pressure. You can always just try it and see what happens. On your calculations, it seems fine, though I think the energy use of your old pump is...

Need new motor. Variable speed with salt chlorinators?

I'd actually ordered the hi/low switch that mounts on the motor, but it was slow to ship. I started doing a bit of research and realized it wasn't complicated to add my own. My Intermatic timer housing had a 'knock out' in the box below the mechanical timers that perfectly fit the switch. I...

Need new motor. Variable speed with salt chlorinators?

Sorry to keep coming back to the 2 speed pump, but I just went through a similar analysis so it's fresh in my mind. I ended up going with a 2 speed motor over a variable speed motor or entire new pump because: The flow I needed for the SWG was essentially the same as low speed on a 2 speed...
