    Re-Sealing Stamped Concrete Pool Patio

Hi. I am about to reseal my stamped concrete pool patio. It was previously sealed with an Acrylic sealer with a color added to it. It lasted quite a while. When they originally sealed the patio, they did not include the egde of the patio within the pool area itself. Shouldn't that concrete be...

    Using Blaster Silicone Lubricant

This will really sound like a silly question, but here it goes. …. I will be storing my cartridge filter and oring inside for the winter…..Should I put lube on the oring for storing and/or before use in spring? Didn’t know if it dries out in storage. Thanks Rich

Removing skimmer weir at winter closing.

I’m trying to decide if I should remover my skimmer weir when I winterize my inground pool. I haven’t done so in the last few years, but have seen articles saying you should. Any thoughts on if and why I should remove it or not? Thanks Rich

Chlorine Level before draining pool for winter closing

Thanks. I also add about 5 gallons of liquid chlorine to the water after draining. Not sure if needed, but water seems clear at opening. :)

Chlorine Level before draining pool for winter closing

Hi. I've read the closing an inground pool process. It says to SLAM a few days before, and let it come down to normal as long as the Overnight test holds. 1. However, if I consistently do not have any CC showing, do I need to SLAM at all before closing? 2. I do add polyquat 60 before draining...

AntiFreeze for Pool Closing (Ethyl Alcohol)

For closing the pool this fall I always use pool safe anti freeze. I saw this at Home Depot for a fairly low price. Says on bottle that it is safe for swimming pools. But the description says …. 128 fl. oz. Ethyl Alcohol -50°F Universal Non- Potable RV Antifreeze. Is Ethel alcohol safe to use...

Storing a Solar Cover Reel for Winter

Hi. Here in the North East, at the end of the summer, I take the solar cover off the reel, fold and store it. I used to also take the reel apart in order to fit it into the pool house. However, as most know, over time that disassembly and reassembly causes it to weaken and sag. This year I am...

Cartridge Filter and Pool Anti Freeze

I have a new cartridge filter. I always add anti-freeze when closing pool. My question is, when I turn it on in the spring, will the anti-freeze that will be in the one suction line (skimmer) damage the cartridges in the filter ? Can you run the filter without the cartridges while clearing the...

    Air in Pump

Thanks. What pipe dope do you recommend? should you leave the pump off for a while after installing with pipe dope? ... even though I know it doesn't harden. Lastly, how much pipe dope should be applied. I've seen it in grey and I've seen it in black?

    Air in Pump

So I ran the water test again and found the leak is at the 2” to 1-1/2” reducer fitting in the front of the pump. I tried tightening it as far as I could go without forcing it further. I was afraid to crack something. Should I remove and retape the fitting or do you recommend getting a new...

    Air in Pump

Yes, the connections into the pump were added, not the connection on pipe from skimmer. The long ball fitting in the front of the pump was from the other pump. (Not new). Again, I assumed since no leaks around the fittings and treads, then no air leak. Guess that's incorrect though. I did pour...

    Air in Pump

When running the new VSP pump at 3450 rpms, the pressure is normal and still air in system. Not a 100% sure when it started, but I think it started this season when I installed the new VSP pump.

Would pushing water back with a shop vac .. blower end … work to clear the skimmer line similar to using a water hose ?

    Air in Pump

Hi. I don’t have a valve to shut off that vacuum line. I only have the skimmer, no main drain. The skimmer is more than 1/2 full, so I don’t believe there is air coming in from there. Thanks Rich

    Air in Pump

Help. I'm very frustrated. I took the fitting apart in front of the pump. The o ring looked good. It's actually glued in to the fitting seen in previous picture. I put lube on it and realigned it so the connection was straight on and then ran the pump at full 3450 rpms. No change. Please help...

There is an "O" ring. It's probably time to replace it as well. Similar to attached picture.

    Air in Pump

For the most part yes. I have checked the pump lid gasket, the pump drain plugs, the skimmer level, the skimmer basket and the weir. The pump is brand new. Only thing left is the connection fitting from skimmer line to the pump. Their is no water leak there and I did try and pour water around...
