Well I got everything installed and she was working just fine until I bumped the RPMs to 3000. The brass nut on my Hayward de filter clamp let go and popped the clamp off. Is 3000 rpm too much? My pressure gauge was barely moving at the lower RPMs.

So, I may have a snag. I have an intermatic mechanical timer which turns my old pump on and off along with the SWG. Do I want the SWG on all the time, but turned down to a lower power? If not, what is the best way to control it with the Calimar?

Does it prolong the life of the cell to swap it out for a dummy cell over the winter? I know that it only generates above a certain temp so I was curious if it would wear out at all over winter when it wasn't active. Thanks.

I've been reading about the Pentairs and it looks like the Intelliflo is setup for automation and the Superflos are just a VS pump with the timer/controller? Also, while my pump is down, does anyone have any advice on what to do to limp my pool along? Just add liquid chlorine in the meantime?

It's a 1hp motor. I think the wet end is fine. When I tried to turn the pump on, there was some sparks and a little smoke from the motor. I immediately shut it off. Is there any advantage to newer pumps vs going with the Nidec?
