    Flow Switch for Goldline SWG

My 5 year old switch just died also. I just ordered mine from CA also. Thanks for the advice on the phone wire. It will keep me going until my new switch arrives. I agree with you about the gal on the phone. Very friendly and helpful.

    A big thanks!

Proof. Little brother, too. Pool temp. 53 (Rite of Spring) Dog "yelling" - "You idiots!" As for the sanity of the daughter: She just went through In Processing and a Swearing In Ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. (A future leader?)

    A big thanks!

Silver02qt From opening to being able to see down near the deep end was 2 weeks. But, I didn't get my test kit until May 22 so I was somewhat hampered in my approach. I simply added a low shock level of bleach. Once my kit arrived, I reached the appropriate shock level and kept it there...

    A big thanks!

[attachment=1:1vharasn]May 2 Opening.jpg[/attachment:1vharasn]As you can see from the first picture I opened to a "green MN swamp." All I wanted was a clear pool for our daughter's high school graduation party last Sunday night. Following the advice on your site and a TFT kit we got it done...

    Solar Blanket + Help

Brought the FC to 11 and covered the pool. Left SWCG on super chlorinate. Everything looked good this morning with an overcast day predicted. I left the cover on today as I want to kill all the algae. I'll check FC tonight. Thanks for all the advice.

    Solar Blanket + Help

If I put the cover on, do I have enough FC to kill the potential algae? Any idea what the yellow slimy stuff is? (Mustard Algae?)

    First swim today!

Congratulations. We just had our first one today too, up in MN. Took about 2 weeks of following the advice here to get it up and running. Don't forget to unhook your wife, before it gets dark  Chris

    Solar Blanket + Help

Re: Solar Blanket + Help! We had a wonderful pool party today and I finally went to put on the cover and as I sprayed it off there were "pockets of green algae and some very yellowy looking slimy algae" all the way through each layer of the clear cover. We sprayed it off and then sprayed...

    SWG Salt ?

Thanks! I'll just stick with water softener salt then and make sure the purity is above the 99.4% recommended. Also, should I delete a post like this now that my questions have been answered? Thanks, Chris

    SWG Salt ?

Have you or anyone else had issues with "dirty salt?" Is the pool store salt that is supposed to be "super" pure really worth the price?
  14. chrisjb8685

    SWG Salt ?

For the last few years I have been using EcoWater Solar Salt which lists itself as 99.7 % pure. I use the same salt in our softener and have noticed that there have been some contaminants or something in the salt that has left a dirty ring in the brinewell and filthy water when the salt has...

sand or dirt or debri back in pool afrter vacuuming

You mentioned in a earlier post that you hook up your vacuum to the hole at the bottom of the skimmer below the basket. I'm not sure about the sand back in but I was told not to hook up directly to the hole below the skimmer basket as you could inadvertently vacuum something large that could...

Thanks Richard, I think I got it. I'll try to post a pic of the pool later.

    Solar Blanket + Help

Re: Solar Blanket If there are places of dried algae on the cover, will they "reawaken" in the pool or will the FC take care of them? (In other words, does the cover need to be free of all debris?)

    Finally done shocking

Thanks for all of the help both with the TA and picture upload. It all makes sense. For aeration I have two of my 4 returns pointing up and also have SWG. Should I turn all four return eyes up? (Will that affect circulation too much?) Chris

    Finally done shocking

It has been 24 hours since I added 1 gal. MA TA has gone from 190 to 150 My target is 80. pH is at 7.2 and with a vinyl liner I'm nervous about going much lower. With the pool calculator, after I enter my TA "now" and "target" numbers nothing shows up in the calculation. (Does that...

    Finally done shocking

According to the Pool Calculator I need 1 gallon and 2 qts. to lower my TA. I read the article about "slugging" the pool but am unclear as to how to proceed. Is there a min/max amount of MA to add? I know this is a process of lowering pH and then letting it rise but what is a good amount of...

    Finally done shocking

Thanks for the reply. I just re-read the post and am thinking that I should start to get the CYA up there. My questions: Do the TA and CYA adjustments need to be made independently of each other or can I go after both? With pool still clearing and a backwash or two in the near future, does...

    Finally done shocking

I did a loss test last night and the numbers held. I can see the drain but pool is still "silty" but improving daily. Here are my numbers. FC - 15 CC - .5 pH - 7.4 CYA - 40 TA - 190 CH - 300 Temp - 69 Where do I go from here? Chris

It is now 10:00 pm and I turned off the SWG an hour ago. My FC is 17 so we'll see how it looks in the morning. (Just an etiquette question: If the husband ((me)) does the late test, should the wife have to wake up early and do the morning test?) Chris

Re: chrisjb8685 + TFtest Kit has arrived 5/21 Help I just got my kit and ran these numbers. All week I have been putting bleach in at night and running the SWG. I've also had a sock of CYA in front of a return. I assume by the CC only being .5 that I've gotten on top of the pool pretty well...

    Solar Blanket + Help

I'm in the initial process of clearing up the pool and will be shocking for awhile. I have a clear 12ml solar blanket and am wondering if it is okay to have it in place during the clearing up phase? Also, is there advice on how to clean the blanket before putting it in place? It is on a...

    chrisjb8685 + TFTest Kit arrive 5/21 Help

Re: chrisjb8685 + starting up All right. I can almost see the bottom of the deep end. I can't update the numbers yet but the chlorine smell is starting to diminish and the stuff floating past the lights at night seems to mostly be bubbles. My pressure on the tank has only gone up 2 psi in...

    chrisjb8685 + TFTest Kit arrive 5/21 Help

Re: chrisjb8685 + starting up The reason I am wondering about the pump is that the pressure has risen only slightly over the last few days and I am wondering if the filter is filtering the really small particles. Are clarifiers or floculants ever called for?

Re: chrisjb8685 + starting up Starting to see a little deeper into the pool although the clarity leaves much to be desired. Should I be adding CYA? It is at 20 Also, how do I get rid of the combined chlorine? The pool has a funny chlorine smell. Will a slower pump rate filter the finer...
