    Winter cover preferences

Thanks. I thought about that. I need to pump the water out of the pool if it gets too high by letting the water in Also, you are correct about the clean up. I open to a clean pool every year. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

    Winter cover preferences

I have a 21' round AGP. Getting ready to close for winter and need a new cover. I've used a closed cover in the past and removed standing water with a sump pump. I worked fairly well. Was wondering if I should get a cover that lets the rain water go into the pool. Then I don't have to worry...

Closing - Dryco Pool Cover Drain

You're right. I have a good little giant electric pump. I've always disliked the way the cover sunk down so low when I drained my pool below the skimmer. This year I will not drain the pool and take the precautions I need to prevent freezing in the skimmer.

Closing - Dryco Pool Cover Drain

Looking for more information on the Dryco Pool Cover Drain. I saw it at the beginning of the year and now it does not seem to be available anywhere. I like the fact that it drains the water off and you don't have to lower the water in your pool. If this is not available, does anyone use...

Pool closing question if you use 55 gallon drum

I have a 21" AGP. I did the same thing. However, I drained my pool below the filter lines. Since the water line is lower, the barrel does not hold the cover up very high in the middle. Do you drain your pool?

    White powder in pool

"I accidently put too much DE in the system. White powder appeared on the bottom of my pool. I assumed it was DE. I've vacuumed several times, back washed the system, but I'm still getting the white power on the bottom." That was in my first post, and was not a lie.!!! Yes, my water chemistry...

    White powder in pool

THANK YOU!!! I took off the ring and 3 bolts were missing and the others were loose. Replaced and tightened and everything is great. I wish I would have seen this post first. Spent hundreds of dollars draining and refilling my pool and adding chemicals because the "experts" told me it was dead...

    White powder in pool

So, I'm assuming this will not work for me? I'm having a problem finding the right FAS-DPD testing kit. Do you know where I can get one?

    White powder in pool

So here is the latest. I'm giving you as much info as I can. I have a picture of my latest FC Test, a picture of the test kit, a picture of the leaves that constantly drive me crazy, and a picture of the trees that they come from. I put a solar cover on the pool, mostly to keep the leaves out. I...

    White powder in pool

Thank you. Will raise the FC today and do an OCLT. Is my CYA still too high? Should I vacuum the dead algae?

    White powder in pool

Ok. Here's what I'm getting. FC =0, pH 7.2, TA 70, CYA 70. This is before adding anything.

    White powder in pool

Thanks, I'll post my baseline results. I've never added CYA (because it always was high) where should I get it?

    White powder in pool

Ok, drained and refilled. What do you recommend doing first?

    White powder in pool

Draining now. Question (I'm sure I'll have many more). How will I get rid of the dead algea when I'm done? Will the SLAM method do that for me?

    White powder in pool

Thanks. Will do. I'll let you know how I make out.

    White powder in pool

Thanks. Results were actually worse. Lost the black dot around 70 so I'm looking at 140. Also, should I turn on my pump and brush the algea so it can be removed by the filter?

    White powder in pool

Ok, here's my latest results. FC =4, pH 7.2, TA 70, CYA 100. I downloaded the Pool Math app and I'm using it to keep track of my tests. I'm using Clorox (7.17% chlorine). Is that ok? I've also added a picture of the pool to show you what the bottom looks like. I'm currently running my pump 8 hrs...

    White powder in pool

Thanks for your help. I have a TF-100 test kit. I joined this site a few years ago when I got my pool. I started to use the TFP methods but was not very diligent. I fell a little bit into the pool supply store trap, because it seemed easier. I need to get back on track. I've started to watch...

    White powder in pool

Just tested. Using a Taylor pool kit. Total Chlorine - 0. PH - 7.3, Alkaline - 70. Will add some liquid chlorine and some baking soda, and vacuume again. I'll see what happens, but, not confident that all the white stuff will disappear.

    Exactly, but I still do.

    White powder in pool

I have vacuumed to the filter several times. The debris is getting less and less. My chlorine levels and alkaline levels are all within normal limits
