Pressure gauge blew off and left threads

Looks like the Plastic filter housing has old tape or old Harveys seal in it and has a rusty color to it looking like brass. The old gauge looks like it has PTFE tape on it too. Can you take your smallest jeweler's screwdriver or a pick like suggested above to pick at the thread in the plastic...

    Waterway Cartridge Filter

While looking for a replacement cartridge for my filter, I saw the prices up quite a bit or out of stock. I came across a website saying the Pleatco PWWEK200-M4 was being discontinued. Two questions: Does anyone know if there is a fitting piece you can buy to change my old Filter from a...

Solar Cover clear vs. blue & thickness

Searching our forum and the web, I see the same thing happening to my pool. The original solar cover we had (silver and blue heavy one) lasted many many more years than the 2020 Blue 8mil one we bought which I am needing to replace because it is falling apart. Currently, I see there are...

    Waterway Cartridge Filter

We currently have a 200 sq foot Waterway Cartridge filter on our pool. The serial number on the housing body sticker barcode is CW2-83142. So taking our filter out of the shed today, I found what I believe is a 1/4 inch "breather tube" broken off which goes from the bottom of the unit and has...

    1.25 vs. 1.5 Vacuum Hose

Two questions related: My current vacuum hose and couplers are held together by Gorilla duct tape last year to prevent leaks so I know I need to replace it this year. What are the pros and cons of 1.25" and 1.5" vacuum hose for my standard triangular suction cleaner on a pole? Any particular...

With bleach expensive and hard to get, whats the dif with liquid chlorinator?

Was at Fleet Farm over the weekend and they were selling 4 gallons of 12.5% bleach for $9.99. Menards has "Splash Pool Shock Liquid" which is 12.5% bleach and is the liquid chlorine I have been using to treat my pool for $3.55 per gallon. Knock on wood, their app says everyone has it in stock.

    Pool store terminology?

Menards is $3.99 a gallon right now for "pool shock". At end of winter they ran a buy one get one sale. Last year mid summer they had a $2 per gallon sale and 11% off....score! Fleet Farm last year sold 4 gallon boxes which broke down to same as Menards regular price. The kids said it...

Sweet. I check on my android and that worked. I figured you guys had already thought of it and I was just missing it.

    Pool Math........The App

Pool Math app seems to work great. I have my account loaded on two Samsung 8's and one iPhone 8. Does it have the function like the Pool Math web page on this site where you put in your FC is 2.0 and I want to go to 4 so I need to add xxxx amount of bleach? The "Effects of Adding" function is...

    Wiring questions

Would putting in a dual function CAFI and GFCI circuit breaker in the panel make the most sense so the wire is protected the whole way? I am running 12-2 from the panel to an outside outlet on the house. Then I was thinking of running conduit from the bottom of that outside box to the...

Newbies opening our pool for the first time...help!

You said you can't turn the impeller and by the buzzing it sounds like it is "stuck" causing the overload on the motor to trip. You need to determine the cause of this. Unplug the motor. One cause would be something in the way of the impeller and another cause could be the bearing is seized...

    Brand new pool startup

Interesting experiment. We put the solar blanket on the pool to see how it fit, etc. the other night. My wife and kids left it on for the last two days but tested the FC each day. It went from 5.5 to 5.0 to 4.5 over the course of that time. As an added benefit, they said it was still 82...

    Brand new pool startup

I wanted to follow up as we have been getting used to testing the pool chemistry and everything. I grabbed a water sample at 10pm and just did a complete test tonight and came up with:pH 7.8 FC 1.0 CC 0 TC 1.0 ppm CYA 35 ppm CH 75ppm TA 240 ppm 1. Each day we have been testing the chlorine...

    Brand new pool startup

Thanks for the help everyone so far. Got my test kit and we are at: FC=0.5 CC=0 or 0.5....hard to tell if there was a little pink there or not but 1 drop made it definitely clear. CH=75ppm TA=270.....not positive on how red is red. 24 drops were pink and 27 seemed more red. CYA=<20 ......I am...

    Brand new pool startup

Thanks for the information. I thought it was the chlorine mixing with the Iron. I got a call from my youngest this morning asking why it was green. See picture below. Is something like Utikem Iron Myte from Menards (297-7120) worth using short term or just hurry up and build the polyfill...

Thanks Kimkats. So the concentrated bleach I got says that it has 8.25% sodium hypochlorite but then right below that says it yields 7.86% available chlorine. Does that mean I have 7.86% to put in the pool math calculator or does that mean I put 8.25% in there?

    Brand new pool startup

So our "new to us" pool is currently filling and the kids are getting excited. They were awesome in helping move wrinkles around to the outside in the heat Sunday and that went pretty well with the foam floor. I almost have it filled now to the return line and am starting to get nervous. I...

Prep: Leveling by build up. Use sand?

You should be looking for extruded polystyrene foam sheets or XPS. The Home Depot in our area carries Dow's Formular 150 and 250. One is 15psi and the other is 25 psi. Side by side, the 250 (or 25psi) seemed harder to "dent" and thicker seemed to be better for denting although the cost is...

Installing 2" Foam on AGP build questions

You are correct Windylou, the blocks are 8x16x4 thick. These are solid concrete block and weigh 33 lbs each. They seem quite a bit more substantial than the typical thin patio block and it's size gives a little more leeway to hit. Here is my question....for my above ground pool, the base and...

Installing 2" Foam on AGP build questions

I'm having to wait to finish my install due to 2 of the base resin pieces being cracked and shipping next day. On Amazon it appears there is two different Gorilla duct tape numbers for the 2.88" wide stuff. Is there any glue difference between the white (narrower) and black (6003001)? It...

Installing 2" Foam on AGP build questions

This raises another question, did you guys stagger the joints of the foam board? For triple taping the seams, are you just putting the tape 3 thicknesses so the tape area is 3" wide or are you putting one on the seam and then the other two half on each edge of the tape so it is like 6 inches...

Installing 2" Foam on AGP build questions

The TFP forum has been a great resource so far. I am in the process of leveling off my 30' pool area and finishing building a retaining wall because I learned to remove height to match the lowest spot rather than build up would have the best results. My soil here is sandy with no rocks so it...

Texas AGP (Intex) - Will update

Re: Texas AGP (Intex) - Will update Great idea documenting. I'm working on leveling the ground for mine right now so I am thinking of chronicling it as well to help others. Did you put the pavers down first and then have the foam sitting on top of them? I am considering installing 2" foam...
