I missed this update, sorry. It stinks bad. I didn't know you could have an unpainted, plaster pool. Lots to learn, still. While bad, I don't have the funds to replaster at this time. Is there such thing as an alge stain or is it always just alge to remove? I should have taken new pictures...

Raising FC to 30 wasn't intentional, but I thought during OCLT the FC would only drop due to alge or other contaminants? I plan to get to 70 CYA once I complete the SLAM, but I'm also confused that 10ppm is a safe level of chlorine? For years using a SWG I kept it at 2-3ppm/60-plus CYA, so this...

So I incidently bumped the FC to 31ppm (SLAM calculator said goal was 22), but the pool does look more clear. In the morning it had dropped to 26ppm, so need to maintain the SLAM.

Yes, epoxy paint. The deep end is paint from before we bought the house a few years ago and had the alge water during the shallow end repairs.

I redid my TA and it turned pink at 9 drops, so 90ppm at 25ml. Going to SLAM and OCLT tonight. It's a bit difficult to see the green stain while cloudy, but for reference, here was the water line while I was doing pool repairs in the shallow end... ...and today:

I'm commonly seeing settlement at the bottom of my pool, mostly on the shallow end and side of pool that has the returns. For a while, I thought it was just organic matter that was blown into the pool and settled. So my question is: does this look like a) settled organic matter, b) alge, c)...

It's still pretty cloudy, though, would continuing to slam help that or is that all on the DE?

Update: I added 2 gal of liquid chlor last night and after 2hrs it settled at 21ppm (only need 12ppm according to calculator). At 7am this morning still at 21ppm. Interesting that it didn't go down overnight. At 10am 17ppm; at noon 12ppm. I added half gal to keep it above 12, will check again...

Got it, thanks, looks like I just save on the amount of chlorine, but I guess it might take more to make sure it says up.

Yeah, I added it before realizing it was different from pool DE. Found pool time pool DE at HD to add tonight. The pool is mostly blue, just cloudy, so not sure if that is algae or just other organic material. Going to slam this evening. Is it worth slamming if CYA is only 20? Still need to...

Would 3 cups make a 30k gal pool cloudy?

I had to open the pool late due to repairs to plaster in the shallow end. There was a lot of organic material in the deep end that wasn't emptied, very green (and frog city). I used fair amount of algaecide before I learned that was a mistake. The pool is now full and i can finally vac to waste...

I added another bag of salt yesterday (had to backwash for 5-6 mins to keep from overflowing...thanks, rain!), and I'm pretty sure it's no longer behaving as described in my original post. Not sure if the SLAM helped it, or what, but seems to be back to normal with no formal explanation.

Yeah, just didn't know if it was a sign of something more sinister that I need to resolve, possibly out of health concerns.
