    Alge or debris?

I missed this update, sorry. It stinks bad. I didn't know you could have an unpainted, plaster pool. Lots to learn, still. While bad, I don't have the funds to replaster at this time. Is there such thing as an alge stain or is it always just alge to remove? I should have taken new pictures...

@JamesW don't want to loose that part of the discussion...any advice for removing the alge "stain"?

    Alge or debris?

Raising FC to 30 wasn't intentional, but I thought during OCLT the FC would only drop due to alge or other contaminants? I plan to get to 70 CYA once I complete the SLAM, but I'm also confused that 10ppm is a safe level of chlorine? For years using a SWG I kept it at 2-3ppm/60-plus CYA, so this...

    Alge or debris?

So I incidently bumped the FC to 31ppm (SLAM calculator said goal was 22), but the pool does look more clear. In the morning it had dropped to 26ppm, so need to maintain the SLAM.

    Alge or debris?

Yes, epoxy paint. The deep end is paint from before we bought the house a few years ago and had the alge water during the shallow end repairs.

    Alge or debris?

I redid my TA and it turned pink at 9 drops, so 90ppm at 25ml. Going to SLAM and OCLT tonight. It's a bit difficult to see the green stain while cloudy, but for reference, here was the water line while I was doing pool repairs in the shallow end... ...and today:

    Alge or debris?

I've been loosely doing an OCLT almost every day, but getting out there a little late (9am). I'll SLAM tonight along with an OCLT. Another question: due to late opening with pool mostly drained, the deep end of the pool has a faint alge stain ring. I presumed that's just a stain as it won't...

    Alge or debris?

I'm commonly seeing settlement at the bottom of my pool, mostly on the shallow end and side of pool that has the returns. For a while, I thought it was just organic matter that was blown into the pool and settled. So my question is: does this look like a) settled organic matter, b) alge, c)...

    Used the wrong DE

It's still pretty cloudy, though, would continuing to slam help that or is that all on the DE?

    Used the wrong DE

Update: I added 2 gal of liquid chlor last night and after 2hrs it settled at 21ppm (only need 12ppm according to calculator). At 7am this morning still at 21ppm. Interesting that it didn't go down overnight. At 10am 17ppm; at noon 12ppm. I added half gal to keep it above 12, will check again...

Got it, thanks, looks like I just save on the amount of chlorine, but I guess it might take more to make sure it says up.

    Used the wrong DE

Yeah, I added it before realizing it was different from pool DE. Found pool time pool DE at HD to add tonight. The pool is mostly blue, just cloudy, so not sure if that is algae or just other organic material. Going to slam this evening. Is it worth slamming if CYA is only 20? Still need to...

Would 3 cups make a 30k gal pool cloudy?

    Used the wrong DE

I had to open the pool late due to repairs to plaster in the shallow end. There was a lot of organic material in the deep end that wasn't emptied, very green (and frog city). I used fair amount of algaecide before I learned that was a mistake. The pool is now full and i can finally vac to waste...

    Bottom drain mystery

So I think I know what's happening. First, when I cover the skimmer, the pump sucks all the water out of the skimmer. Right as it gets to the bottom of the skimmer, you can see water coming up out of the bottom drain--so it is moving water. During that process, too much air gets sucked into the...

    Bottom drain mystery

I have an inground where the bottom drain feeds into the bottom of the skimmer bucket and then combines with skimmer water to a single line to the pump. Sadly, this gives me no control over bottom vs skimmer. I was curious to see how well the bottom drain worked, so I covered the pool-side of...

    Salt clouds

I added another bag of salt yesterday (had to backwash for 5-6 mins to keep from overflowing...thanks, rain!), and I'm pretty sure it's no longer behaving as described in my original post. Not sure if the SLAM helped it, or what, but seems to be back to normal with no formal explanation.

Okay--up to a solid 5 FC (practically no CC). We'll see how it looks in the morning. Still haven't got an opinion if the odd interation should prevent swimming? Throwing out a silly ideas because I'm stumped: Is my water is highly oxygenated from air getting into the system via...

    Salt clouds

Well, okay, not perfect, but pretty good...it's a bit low because my SWG isn't helping yet... I went to the pool store to verify DPD at-home testing...I just wanted to be sure and I don't have a salt test. This has happened with every bag of salt I've added (close to 6 bags, over 3 different...

    Salt clouds

I took a sample to pool store and everything is perfect. 2 FC, 0 CC, 200 CH, 70 CYA, 80 TA, 7.2 pH, 2900 Salt. My SWG still says "low," so I added another bag to get it over 3000. I plan to take it apart this weekend and see if I need to clean. Still when I add the salt I get the cloud. I...

Yeah, I've been attempting to SLAM. My chlorine has been disspearing as fast as I can add it. As noted in original post, it came out of a green period that I resolved with chlorine solids...thought maybe I wasn't truly getting rid of something. This morning I got up a little later than hoped...
