Does Chlorine lose it potency in sealed containers?

I believe 2 months is generally considered the 'shelf life' of sealed containers of bleach. It will have a date code on the bottle.

    Where's my CYA

Pool is IG vinyl 18 x 36 with a deep end, a bit under 30,000 gallons. Filter is sand, 300lbs I believe. The pool is only 3 years old, been doing TFP since the beginning.

    Where's my CYA

Pool is now holding CYA at about 20. From reading about CYA->ammonia, I suspect that was my issue initially. It seemed to use a lot of chlorine at first, but I assumed it was the algae. Pool is still blue-green though and doesn't seem to be clearing. Not a lot of FC use and I'm holding it at...

    Where's my CYA

CYA at closing was probably around 40. I added 5lbs of cya granules yesterday that should have put my cya around 20 Retested TA: 90. ph is 7.5

    Where's my CYA

TA was 30, I've since added about 20lbs of baking soda but haven't re-tested. FC was 7 this morning (confirmed by pool store, FWIW), down from 10 last night. Pool is green from algae. It was mainly on the bottom after opening but I brushed everything to stir it up. I pump my pool down to...

    Where's my CYA

Opened my pool yesterday morning and started testing. ph 7.2. CYA was 0, which I've not had before --usually there's at least some when I open in the spring. I added 5 lbs of dry stabilizer via skimmer sock. CYA should have at least been 20 , and my CYA test showed some cloudiness but was...

How the heck do I connect a 2" backwash hose to a 2" pvc backwash hose???

Re: How the heck do I connect a 2" backwash hose to a 2" pvc backwash hose??? I had to do this a few weeks ago. I used a heat gun (cheap one from harbor freight) to heat the end of the backwash hose, then my fingers (gloved) to stretch it. Repeat a few times. it doesn't take much heat to...

Pool safety covers -- are they a China commodity now?

New IGP, 18x36 CES. I'm researching mesh safety covers. Looking on Amazon and pool sites, I see a lot of the same product pictures, yet with different brand names and prices. The brand names seem to be specific to each seller -- I can't find the brands elsewhere with Google. Have safety...

    Backfill and Slurry Question

Maybe build a retaining wall? Keep in mind, it may void your warranty. I would not put any plastic or barrier against the pool since it can trap moisture. Use drainage gravel to allow most of the water to drain away and any remaining moisture to evaporate.

    Backfill and Slurry Question

Is your pool approved for partial burial? If so, the manufacturer should specify what's allowed so the warranty isn't voided. I doubt it's a slurry mix. I think it's typically non-compactable material like drainage stone.

    Newbie! Electrical Questions!

I live in the Kansas City metro area, but in an unincorporated area. The county is currently using the 2011 NEC. I've talked with the building inspector a couple of times on the phone about swimming pool requirements. Things are somewhat "relaxed". That said, I'd prefer to go beyond the...

    Newbie! Electrical Questions!

I'm reading the study guide you linked. For an AGP with a depth > 42", am I reading 680.26(B)(2)(b) correctly on page 19: I have to bury an 8 AWG bare copper conductor around the perimeter of the pool base, within 18-24" of the pool wall? I knew that rebar in a concrete pool has to be bonded...

    Need plans for deck

Are you building it yourself or using a deck contractor? An experienced contractor should be able to draw up plans and an estimate. I'd have concerns building a floating deck that large, but it probably depends on local soil conditions and building codes.

Hanging a rectangular Intex Ultra Frame Pool directly from the pool deck

It looks like the other rails were also starting to pull away from the ledger. I'm guessing you're going to need a _lot_ more screws to hold it on. Maybe some structural screws like Timberlok

    AGP with diving board?

Interesting insurance aspect. I just call my insurance company and they said a slide or diving board isn't something they even ask about. There'd be a small increase to insure the replacement cost of a pool, and they require the usual 4' fence w/ locking gates, but nothing more. My liability...

    AGP with diving board?

I guess I should have included the DIY in-ground pool kits in my question. They seem very similar to the AGPs that can be buried, like Radiant, with pour concrete collars around the bottom of the vertical walls. poolkits.com has pictures with diving boards, but I don't see any design specs...

    AGP with diving board?

Are there any good options for DIY AGPs that allow a diving board? I understand it will need an 8' deep end, but the few deep end options I've found have slopes from all the sides such that the deepest area isn't big enough for a diving board.

A Deep Pool Build in Peoria, AZ -- finished, working on chem balance!

Re: A Deep Pool Build in Peoria, AZ -- Light troubles :( I'd be hesitant to try moving the light at this point. Maybe move the diving board to line up with the light? Which do you think would be more noticeable: the diving board being centered but not lined up with the light, or the diving...

Video: Of my oval AGP installed on retaining wall due to unlevel yard

Very nice. Does your TimberTek decking receive afternoon sun? How hot does it get? I'm planning an AGP with composite decking to match an existing covered deck, but I'm now reading a lot about how hot composite decking gets in direct sunlight.

    pump size questions

I don't have anything yet. I'll probably plumb 2" with an oversized sand filter. I can't figure out the need for a 2hp pump on 15000gal, either, but I'm new to this....

    Sharkline Matrix 24'x54" DIY install.

my thought is that if you're compacting fines, then I'd use 2" blocks instead of 4". Maybe 2" blocks laid in 4" of fines. 7" seems like a lot, but I guess couldn't hurt (except your back maybe)

    pump size questions

I'm trying to get an idea of pump size for a 15'x30'x54" Sharkline Matrix. I've found various gallons amounts for this size, from 12000 up to 15000. Worse case, at 15000 and 8 hour turnover, that's a little over 31gpm. My pump will be located close to the skimmer and return, so my research...

I need a new pump but have low voltage electrical!

The issue you will probably encounter is current draw by the larger pump: it's 22.4 amps at 120V. A typical 120V circuit tops out at 20amps with 12ga wiring. With 240V, the pump will require half the amps. In some cases, the existing wiring may support 240V, but you _really_ need to consult an...

Hanging a rectangular Intex Ultra Frame Pool directly from the pool deck

There's going to be a lot of weight on the ledger boards that support the pool wall. In some of your drawings, it appears the ledger boards are resting on the joists. In others, it looks like the ledger may attach to the end of the joists. If that's the case, I suggest using upside-down joist...
