Forgot to say, thanks everyone for your help. The water has been at the same level since we filled it so we know the whole leak problem was in the liner. Good thing we never paid anyone to check on the pipes.

Do I need to touch the TA or CH? From reading the Pool School article I think they're fine where they are? I'm going for a swim :-D

The pool finished filling yesterday and we've had the pump running since. I just ran a full test on the water. FC - 1 (had it 10 yesterday, goes fast with no CYA) CC - 0 TA- 70 CH - 70 pH - 7.3 Going to add a little bit of Borax to bring the pH up a hair and keep the FC around 2 until there's...

$3600 for a 27mm liner and installation. We got quotes from 4 different companies and they were all around that price. So much for not spending much money on the pool this year. :? The deep end is a few inches from full right now. It's filling faster than we expected.

The liner guys guessed 2-3 days. They also said slower is better as far as making sure there are no wrinkles. Not sure if that's true or not.

New liner dropped in with the vacuum going: We're filling it now and the guys are coming back when it's about half full to cut in the holes for the skimmers and jets.

We're having a new liner installed right now. When they emptied out the water it was obvious why we were having leak problems, there were several decent sized holes. Hopefully when this is done we won't have any more water loss. This morning: Right now:

We're trying to get someone to come over and give us a quote but we can't get anyone to call us back, I guess they're all busy. The original company was also booked up for three weeks. We tried running just the other skimmer and the main drain but there's air getting in so we can't do that...

Found a website that recommends a product called Fix A Leak, it's a product specifically for pools and hot tubs that you just pour into the skimmer. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Can we just close off that one skimmer and run the pool with the other skimmer and main drain? Will that damage anything?

Very sorry for the delay everyone, my only excuse is that we got very frustrated with it. The water is mostly clear now, we can almost see to the bottom of the deep end, and the amount of dirt and leaves down there is still ridiculous. We tried using one of those vacuums that hooks up to the...

We've been trying. Whenever we have a free moment that is not spent on the filter we're out there scooping, it's just that there's so many in there. It's also been very windy the last couple of days so there's a lot of new stuff getting blown in. With the new filter set up and working we'll have...

Thanks, I'll give that a try overnight hopefully. Alright, the good news is we were able to use that teflon tape to seal up our pvc threads, the bad news is I found a couple of other very tiny leaks in the old plumbing. One is a crack in the skimmer valve, the other is a threaded elbow joint...

Converting swamp to pool (pics included)

If anyone is interested, I've been keeping a tally of everything we've spent on the pool so far. Including the new filter, de, bleach, plumbing supplies, and everything else, we are up to $1576. At least it's cheaper than having someone do all this for us. And it's fun learning how to...

I was going to ask you guys about this today, actually. We are, about 1 inch every 12 hours. We thought it was from a leak from that Jandy Energy Filter we have, but we fixed that and it only slowed down the leaking. I do know of one hole in the liner, about 1 inch big, right around the water...

Yesterday around noon: Today around 11: It looks a little darker today but I think that's just the lighting outside. In person it looks the same as yesterday. We can see the entire bottom of the shallow end and a few feet down the wall of the deep end. We got our new filter yesterday...

Today at 11: Definitely clearer than yesterday. I can see down to the floor in some spots of the shallow end.

Still going pretty well. We ordered a new filter today, the Hayward 60 sq ft DE filter. The one we have has been such a pain and it is so old that we decided to just upgrade. Should be here on Friday or Saturday. I kept the pool at shock all day today, you can really see a color difference now...

The water turned to a greyish green instead of just straight green. I can also see down another inch or two into the water.

Did another test, FC 13, CC 1.5. Again, this is without adding any bleach for hours. I just put in enough bleach to bring the FC back up to 16, and I'm done for the night as it's getting dark outside. If anyone has any idea why the FC isn't dropping faster I'd love to hear it.

Yes, I'm doing the test like that. I just tested again and got FC 15, CC 1.5

Actually I'm not sure what's going on. After the first 30 minutes I tested again and FC was at 11. I brought it back up to 16 and an hour later it was the same. Just tested again 15 minutes ago and it's at 15. It's been about 2 hours, I have no idea how the FC is still 15.

I just poured 7 bottles of bleach in to bring the FC up to 16. pH was 7.4 before starting and CYA was 40 (I accidentally poured in one more bottle of stabilizer than I needed). Here's one last before picture:

I checked the backwash valve and the o-rings in there were messed up. I fixed them and that seems to have stopped the DE problem. Thanks poolguy. Everything seems to be okay now so I'm finally going to start shocking.

Opening pool, I think I need a new DE filter

If I need to replace the filter once the water is clear, do you all still recommend sand over de?

Opening pool, I think I need a new DE filter

Thanks for the advice. I opened up my backwash valve this morning and noticed the o-rings in there were messed up. I fixed them and that seems to have stopped the de from coming back into the pool. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for few more months before it finally dies. I'm planning on...

Opening pool, I think I need a new DE filter

I'm not sure why you're suggesting getting a sand or cartridge filter. I thought DE provides the best filtration? Is it because the other filters are cheaper?
