So you have to close your pool?

I live in Arkansas and today the high will be around 84 and this is some of the coolest weather we have had. It will get colder and we will traditional have some temps below freezing. Do I have to close the pool or can I just maintain it over the winter, leaving the pump on a time to cycle...

Best Method to prevent Wrinkles in the Vinyl

Welcome to TFP! When they installed by pool, they made sure that the sand was level and smoth. Then they hung the liner and made sure that it was straight and the bottom was smooth with no creases. Then they added a small about of water and made adjustments to the top. I have read on...

    Phoenix Arizona recommended CYA level

You can use the Pool Calculator to calculate the CYA levels for your pool. That will give you a target range. You could then introduce CYA so that it comes up to the high end of that range. It is my understanding that CYA is somewhat of an illusive target; however, if you add the amount...

Sandstone vs. sand under Intex pool

Welcome to TFP! With a vinyl liner you have to be careful not to have sharp edges that will puncture or cut threw the liner. Sand is what we have under our pool. The PB took about 12" off the ground to make it level using a skidder. Then put the sand on. Makes it all level. We...

Cant get my chlorine to stay up

If you will use the 6-way and post the results of all the 6 elements it tests, that will give us a better idea of what is going on. It will probably show results for: FC = Free Chlorine TC = Total Chorine TA = Total Alkalinity PH = PH ( ) CH = Calcium Hardness CYA = Cyanuric Acid

Cant get my chlorine to stay up

Do you have a test kit? Can you post a full set of test numbers. Two things I can think of would be you have organics consuming your chlorine or you are losing it to sunlight because you don't have any CYA in your water. The first thing I would do would be to get a complete set of numbers...

    ??s about moving sand filter

You might want to read the section in Pool School about winterizing. I think there is some information there about disconnecting your pump and filter. If not, search out the manufacturer of your pool and see if there is info on their web site.

    Pool Stores

I had thought about this in my area. I don't have the capital to do it but another thought I had was to be a service guy who knew about BBB and could help there clients maintain a healthy pool for much less that what traditional pool people charge.

White stuff floating on top of the water

I have the same problem right now. I live in Arkansas. Like poolmom says, the knee highs work well. Also, when it gets really bad, I get the water hose and spray over the top of the water which knocks it to the bottom of the pool. Then you can sweep it up once it settles. Sometimes I turn...
