Is there a point at which a freshwater pool has too much salt build up and how do you remedy?

I've been using BBB almost since the pool was installed last Spring. Went through the bucket of pucks the builder provided. Was frustrated with testing at the pool store and getting wacky info. Guy would circle a couple numbers then say "you need this, that and some of this". About the 3rd time...
