Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Thank you for all the sage advice. It took so long to get this addressed while the electrician and pool guy pointed fingers at each other. Pump is now replaced and hubby hooked electrical back upsince deadbeat electrician stood us up 3x. Keeping it at 5ppm while circulating the water helped...

Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

It appears to run fine but I'm told that at times, it draws more than 22 amps (anything over 15 is too much is what I'm told), and trips the breaker. The pump is covered by my insurance so I'm just going to have it replaced. If I was paying out of pocket, I'd chase down an alternative solution...

Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Thank you. I just ordered CYA on eBay, as I'll need 7lbs or more.

Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Thanks for the info - I have a 1/4 HP sump pump for my hottub. But electrician says all looks good and looks like pump is drawing too much amperage. The pool guy thinks it is because there is no ground wire but electrician says "Nonsense!". My home warranty is taking care of it so they are...

Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Thank you! So my husband has been doing it right and I told him he was wrong in my best know-it-all voice. It's crow for dinner tonight! Is the portable pump idea worthwhile? It would cost me about $240 to get the pump, connectors, and hose.

Also, is it worth floating some pucks in the pool?

Worth treating water if pump is out of commission?

Just opened our pool a couple weeks ago and was vacuuming with intention of balancing when the breaker for the pump started tripping. Electrician replaced breaker, pool guy said pump is ok (2 years old) so another electrician will come to troubleshoot today. I have a grad party for my senior...

Not plugging returns and using Rigid 16gal/6hp shop vac to blow out lines

Thank you. Yes, I have a main drain, one skimmer, and about 3 returns. I guess it's not so much that they are deep in the water, but the are far enough down that my tiny little arms can't reach in a way to reliable unscrew the eyeballs and get the plug in. I feel like I'd drop them into the...

Not plugging returns and using Rigid 16gal/6hp shop vac to blow out lines

I thought I saw a thread about the deep return lines but unsuccessful in my search. I am trying to close the pool myself, and, like most newbies, am worried about blowing out the lines properly. I have read that the Rigid 14gal/6hp shop vac will do the job. I'd love to not have to spend $300...

Closing (or not) in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon)

Thanks to you both for the info. I'm in Portland, OR - last year was our first winter with our new (very old) pool. It is an inground gunite pool. We don't have a heater, and our equipment is enclosed in a pool house. The person who closed it for us last year said to keep the chlorine...

Is it possible to open a pool and not have to do anything to it?

Some days it is below freezing almost all day (> 8 hours). Cover does not go over skimmer - and my elderly father likes to walk out back so I'd prefer to use the safety cover.

Is it possible to open a pool and not have to do anything to it?

I have a mesh cover (does that explain all the dirt?) I guess I close because I get calls from the pool folks offering to close my pool so thought that's what people do here. And I'm terrified that pipes will freeze/burst under the concrete. We do have about 20-30 days of below freezing...

Is it possible to open a pool and not have to do anything to it?

But that's unusual, right? The reaction I'm getting makes me think that it is very strange that I have to do anything but take off the cover and jump in. My pool is now pretty clear (water is still very slightly cloudy), but FC holds overnight, and burns off in the sun. CC is .5 or less, so I...

Is it possible to open a pool and not have to do anything to it?

I had this buried in another thread as a comment, but decided it should be a new post. I'm so happy with BBB method and so thankful I found this site last year when we moved into our new home (complete with the pool I never wanted). This is my second year, and opening was much smoother - I'm...

Year 2: Avoiding the Sophomore Slump

I'm in my second year too. Opened the cover to greenish water, and dirt at the bottom (so much dirt, did it come through the mesh cover I suppose?). I vacuumed and am SLAMing (day 4). Water is much clearer, and I only lost .5 overnight, but the sun seems to be burning off the chlorine. My...

    Serious help needed

When we moved in in the beginning of 2016, we had the same issue. I had to hire two guys to scoop out the majority of the leaves, then vacuumed the majority of the dirt to waste. I have a gunite pool, so can't speak to the liner, but I would think if you have a vacuum head that is appropriate...

    Iron stains

Great to know - thank you! I'll do some digging to see how much MM I will need for our 28k gallon pool. Update: I read your test link again, and all the info is there. It says leave pH 7.5 or higher, so maybe I won't touch it for now til after MM?

Great - thanks. I'll get some ordered...so, muriatic acid to lower pH to 7.2-7.3 is recommended, right?

    JUST got TF-100 HELP please

We just got done clearing up our unused (for 3 years) swamp that we inherited with our home purchase. We went through over 20 gallons of the Walmart 10% bleach before we got rid of the algae. Now, I'm using about 8-9 cups every other day to keep FC around 4. I'd also get a metal brush head if...

    Iron stains

Thanks all for the responses - so I think I'll use muriatic acid to lower the pH to 7.2-7.3, then try the Metal Magic or some other stain remover. Besides Metal Magic, are there any other recommended ones?

    Iron stains

Hi there: I've read a lot about how to remove iron stains (confirmed with a vitamin C tablet test). With my CYA around 30, I keep FC at 3-4 and pH around 7.8. It seems to me I'm seeing more orange spots on the bottom of the pool. Is the high pH making this worse? The pool store said I had .1...

    Show off your test kit!

Brilliant! I'm going to go get a tackle box. My husband will get excited thinking I want to go fishing with him, and his hopes will be dashed quickly! Where do you all store you test kits? Pool house is too hot - inside the house I don't really have a good place. Garage?
