    Best 1hp pump?

I have a Hayward now. It does need a couple parts but the main wear comes from the sun destroying the plastic body of the pump. Unrelated to the UV damage, it just started squealing. Arizona "accidentally" put into law the variable speed only requirement in 2012 that was copy and pasted from...

    Best 1hp pump?

Well the good news is it is winter so I can take a couple days to get a new pump in. In ground pool. Currently has a 1hp Hayward. Looking for a basic single speed or dual speed pump. What's the best for durability, and do any vendors on the site have good pricing? Will ship to my shop...

Salt Water Startup for Whoever May Be Interested

OK, running normal pump time cycle for three days with the AutoPilot set at 60% power I am up to proper chlorine level. 3-1/2 gallons of acid over these three days brought my ph to the correct number. 240# salt - current number is 3100. I will keep an eye on this, traditionally it wanes a little...

Salt Water Startup for Whoever May Be Interested

Water change year, I will log the startup and post all my numbers in the interest of helping anyone with a similar pool and water here in the Southwest. Just changed the water. Cartridge filters require no back washing so no water is evacuated from the pool except by evaporation. Concentrations...

    Yaaaaay!!!

I have that AND the TF kit, Thanks!!! - - - Updated - - - Yes - adding borates. We have done this before and really like the feel and appearance of the water though the original intent was to aid anti-algae efforts. I do not like to add more than 1 gallon of acid per day.

    Yaaaaay!!!

Need a little more stabilizer, I'm at 60 cya now. pH is off the charts as I expected from the Borax, added another gallon of acid and we'll see where it's at tomorrow. FC at 5, no CC

    Yaaaaay!!!

Well, thanks to TFP. I refer many people to this forum because you've all helped so much.
  11. C

    Yaaaaay!!!

Well I'm pretty pleased most everything went as planned. The cya was lower than it should have been with the product I bought at Wal-Mart so I added more of a different brand. Everything else was reasonably on target so I just dumped in the Borax. Will add half the acid in a couple hours then...

    Yaaaaay!!!

Pool store says 3500 so we will leave it be and keep an eye on what it does. I calibrated my AutoPilot to read 3500. I wonder if my local water utility publishes the salt levels of the tap water? Found it, most recently published 2014, average sodium 171 with a range of 84-290! Well if it was...

    Yaaaaay!!!

I dumped in some liquid chlorinator at startup and I have cell power at 0 until I could test the water and make sure everything was OK. On my Taylor K-1000 the chlorine is 5. Sounds high but with the heat here it should come down fairly quickly. As I need chlorine I will bring power up on the...

    Yaaaaay!!!

Well, either I "mis-remembered" how much salt I put in at startup last time or the Salt River is a little saltier this spring... the AutoPilot sensor is saying 3600 - oops! I will buy some salt strips today to verify that, hopefully it will go down a little before it goes up with evaporation. TA...

    Yaaaaay!!!

It was August 2009, the problems eventually led me to this forum, which fixed everything so I gratefully joined as a paid lifetime member. In a nutshell, I found that when the CH is too high, and the air temp is 115, aerating at night to keep water temp down... drinking acid like crazy because...

    Yaaaaay!!!

Cartridge filter, no back flush ever. Phoenix area, Salt River is primary origin of tap water. CH starts at the high end and goes off the charts from there. When I get the salt in and everything balanced I'll post what everything tests at. Really good water pressure yesterday, filled in about 15...

    Yaaaaay!!!

lol - takes 24 hrs to refill! Original pool builder told us 70 so that has been working since 2004. Today was a perfect day though regardless. I usually do it end of Feb - early March but the weather this year caught me. Every two years. I tried going three once but had difficulty with...

    Yaaaaay!!!

I was sweating bullets because this year is a water change year, and the temp went from 60 to 80 overnight and stayed there! Not supposed to drain pool over 70, I thought I was hosed this year.... But the weather said high of 68 today so I drained it last night!! Refilling now, time to get some...

Need new brush and pole... Attn. Forum sponsoring vendors??

    Lots o' air....

Thanks, that confirms what I was thinking next, going to see if I can find seals to rebuild the valve.

    Lots o' air....

Replaced the seal on the leaf basket and the seal on the pump basket. Capped off the O2 temporarily. Moved the valve a little to slow the suction at the skimmer. All of these things helped a little, but I still have very much air being pumped through the system, so much so that the cartridge...

    How to add CYA?

What color staining am I watching for?
  24. C

    Refill

TA down to 170. Added CYA mid week, last night it measured 65. I will give it another couple days and check again. Looks like I'm going to need about another 10-15 lbs salt.

    SS Brush

Safe to use a stainless steel bristle brush on Pebbletech? Nylon bristle, aluminum brush falling apart again. Also does not work well on the algae that forms on the grout of the tile at the waterline. Thanks

    How to add CYA?

Re: Liquid Stabilizer vs Dry I have in floor cleaners. I just broadcast stabilizer over the whole pool while the pump is running and it disperses fairly quickly.

    Refill

The prevalent challenges I face are a considerable acid thirst and sudden algae growth. My pebble tech is a very light color so I thought I would be OK. What happens is, along about the end of June, the water temp starts pushing past the low 80's. This is usually my signal to run the aerator at...

    Refill

Yes, definitely will add borates. I learned about them here in 2009. I will follow your advice and wait until the TA comes down. Aerator is on now. Just never had a problem with TA in the past.

    Refill

Well now. AutoPilot said my salt level was 1500, I added 120 pounds of salt and am now at 2600. According to pool math that makes my pool 13000. That's one thing I haven't been able to calculate accurately until now.
