    It had been working fine. I replaced the shaft seal today because it was leaking. Impeller does spin freely. It is an AO Smith motor, the capacitor is on top of the motor.

    When I turn the pump on it runs for about 3 seconds and then trips the breakers. Any suggestions of what may be causing this?

    From your posts I believe you are calculating the CYA level yourself? I would have a water sample tested at your local pool store to verify your CYA levels. The CYA level in your pool is critical to get the chlorine to work properly.
