I'll have more time in July and August to stay on top.. but we are going away for 18 days in July.. Is there something I can do for extend...

Questions about shocking, FC levels and other related

Okay, I figured I'd have to add it frequently (I'll follow the pool math parameters) - The water clarity had been excellent.. very clear, sparkling, so I don't think anything is too out of whack. Tomorrow I will get a good supply of the liquid chlorine. I'll also check the PH and TA which I...

Questions about shocking, FC levels and other related

I just tested my FC and it was nearly nil. I haven't been home much due to work/family obligations (one of the frustrating things about trying to commit to a consistent pool maintenance schedule). We've had several days of sun and the kids have been swimming the past 2 days. I didn't have...

Questions about shocking, FC levels and other related

Here is the pool - yesterday I dialled the jet nozzles to counter clockwise. The red circles are where the jets are located with the one near the steps being the stronger jet (closer to the pump pad). That deep-end jet is about 40% weaker (is that normal?). The yellow circle is where my...

By the way, I want to know what direction do you folks keep your jets? Upward (to skim the pool surface) or downward? I generally keep downward and turn the to the surface if i want to skim debris entering the pool due to high winds

Questions about shocking, FC levels and other related

thanks for the info! I will do my research this week. So my FC was high meaning I didn't lose any and therefore my chem balance is good - can I assume this? If things were out of whack my FC would have dropped appreciably I think.. Last week I did the overnight loss test and I passed. So...

Questions about shocking, FC levels and other related

Hey folks, Latest test after about 1.5" of rain today: FC 8.5 (seems high), CYA 50, PH 7.5, TA 110. I was about to do my weekly shock when I realized the FC is on the high side. I did have pucks in the skimmer throughout the week. They've since dissolved. Should I hold off on shocking this...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

Just finished the OCLT. I recorded drop from 8 to 7. I do have one concern though. I find that the water will go from clear at the conclusion of the drops then a slight pink will return to the tested water. This happens, invariably, every time I perform these tests.. a bit frustrating. I do...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

After several days of Slam I decided tonight to figure out if I need to do an OCLT. The video instructions (posted in this thread) state that the CC level needs to be determined. When I did the FC test my FC level was 3.5 (l have not added chlorine the last two days and it has been sunny)...

    Sand entering pool

I have occasionally in the past while the pump is running but not recently. I turn off the unit then switch. As for the second part of your question, I am not sure. I can't recall.. does it make a difference if you're turning counter-clockwise? It's possible I have done so this season and...

    Sand entering pool

Thanks. I cannot get to the MPV without cutting the lines BecUse the installer didn't use unions. So I'll cut them and instal a union. Is this something I'll need to address right away or can it wait a week or two as I don't have a time ti do it right now? do those spider gaskets come with...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

The water has been crystal clear for at least 48 hours now. I've been checking the FC twice per day. I've manage to get the FC close to the 20 mark consistently for 3 days now. I will perform the OCLT tonight. Now I have to address the sand entering the pool issue! Never stops, does it...

    Sand entering pool

some of you are aware from my previous threads that I've had issues with algae blooms and what I though was mechanical issues with my filter and/or pump. Well I performed a SLAM and just about completed it (I think) and will do the OCLT test tonight. During the SLAM I did several vacs of the...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

Well I pretty much confirmed that some sand is getting in during this SLAM process. I have been frequently vacuuming the bottom with my Polaris and every time I pull it out to clean the filter, I've found sand in the basket. I wonder if I should start another thread for that problem or maybe...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

I guess I missed some points.. I didn't expect this to be done already. So my CC is 1 which is above the .5 maximum. I'll need to adjust. This is what I found on one of the TFP videos (Pool Chemicals for beginners) and based on this chart, my FC level for 50 CYA is 20, correct?

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

So I've just taken a reading after 2nd day of SLAM: FC - 7.5 Cl2 - 1 CYA - 43 I know the CYA is good. But the Free & Combined chlorine seems high, doesn't it? Should I back off and adding more liquid chlorine? Btw, my pool is CRYSTAL CLEAR! Next steps? When can I swim? It's 87 and...

Changing sand in Hayward filter question

When I calculated the Pool Math formula, my volume of required CL was 3.6 litres to achieve 5 PPM.. Thought I would require more. Does that sound right for a 24K gal pool?
