Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep testing. Seems like I can't eliminate the return lines just yet.

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Hello Allen, I thought I was doing a kind of pressure test of the return lines by running the pump for extended periods of time and then not running it. The water loss was marginally greater when the pump wasn't running. Which leads back to my original question:- Is there a circumstance where a...

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Thanks Allen, Will just have to hope we're ok regarding any termites. Not sure why anyone would actually choose to use flexible piping. I certainly regret that I didn't rip them out and replace them when I had the chance. Kalavo.

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Cornwall, not too far from North Devon where those termites were found in the article! But I do think I would have to be incredibly unlucky for them to turn up here and there's plenty of other tasty snacks around they could eat. We pressure tested 2 years ago. I can do more tests where I just...

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

We've got a climate control unit which gets the humidity down to 60% if it goes above. However, nearly all the time the cover is on the pool and I would say typically it's about 45% and the unit doesn't need to do anything with the humidity. Pool temp is kept at 28degrees c. Room temp is...

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Hello Jim, I'm pretty sure it loses just 12 litres a day through evaporation/usage. Was consistently using that each day for Feb, March, April, May and most of June. Then end of June this year, it very quickly escalated to 60 litres per day. July was 60 litres avg per day, August 70 litres...

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

The pool is one and a half years old. I think our climate is too cold for those termites, hopefully. Yes, we pressure tested all the lines.

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

Thanks Texas, The joint between flexi and solid is a socket with two female ends. So the flexipipe goes inside the socket. I was always a bit dubious about the joints between flexi and solid and wish I changed to all solid pipes after I sacked the pool builder. The joints, however, pressure...

Small pool leak - hydraulics question

We've got a deck level indoor pool. It's got a leak that's currently about 90 litres per day. One aspect of the leak is that it seems slightly worse during periods when the pump is not running. I appreciate this could mean a suction side leak (although I'm not seeing any air coming into the...

    New indoor pool readings

I've done a bit more reading up on this, which can be a dangerous thing. I'm comfortable with the relationship between CYA and FC and why TFP recommends 20ppm CYA in indoor pools. However, lets suppose a hypothetical scenario where I left the TA (at 35) and CYA (at near zero) and tried to...

    New indoor pool readings

Thanks Triptyx, Looks like I need to do a lot more reading up on this. Normally it will be just my wife and I who use the pool for about 30mins per day. Forgot to mention that it's a deck level pool with lots of water splashing and gurgling as it descends into the surge tank. That could explain...

    New indoor pool readings

Thanks triptyx I'll slowly try and get everything within recommendations. It's great to be able to swim in it after so many years building it. I'm somewhat reluctant to do anything about the CYA though. The Installation manual for the IC40 says in massive capitals letters: DO NOT USE CYANURIC...

    New indoor pool readings

Hello, We have an 18000 gallon tiled indoor pool with SWG and a UV sanitizer. The SWG has now got the FC up to an acceptable level so I have taken a set of readings using all the reagents provided in the kit I bought. Here they are: PH 8.11 FC 5.09 CC .13 CYA 2 TA 35 TA looks very low compared...

Actuator to control flow through a 2 way valve

Thanks Brian. It will home developed automation. I'm from an IT background so the programming is not an issue. The electronics side is more of a struggle for me but luckily I know people who will help with that (hopefully).

Actuator to control flow through a 2 way valve

Hello Jon, I was under the impression you couldn't set the limit switches remotely. i.e. you have to physically press a button on the actuator or open it up and adjust a cam Brian, my suggestion was to cut the power when the valve reaches the position of the required flow rate. However, I'm...

Actuator to control flow through a 2 way valve

Thanks for the replies. I'm speaking from a position of zero practical experience as we are still building our pool and it will be a few months yet before it is finished. However, I am hoping to automate it as much as I can. As far as the lights are concerned, I have bought the WT2 versions of...

Actuator to control flow through a 2 way valve

Thanks Pooldv, but, if possible, I'm keen on getting something that can be set to 30% open, 50% open etc. depending what a computer program decides the flow rate should be.

Actuator to control flow through a 2 way valve

Hello, Please does anyone know of an actuator on the market which is able to control the flow through a 2 way valve from fully on to fully off and any setting in between. If not, is there a motorized valve which can do the same function. It's 2 inch pipework. I was hoping to put two of the...

    Pipe sizing

The pool has already been partially built by a PB. I'm currently making an initial design for the rest before seeking consultancy from another PB. The final surge tank dimensions will be 3.51m (len) x 0.93m (width) x 1.51m (height) = 4.93 cubic metres = 1302 US gallons The top of the surge...

    Pipe sizing

What about the pipe sizes between "units" in the plant room? Pumps, filters etc typically have 2 inch connections. Is there any value in going bigger than 2 inches for the relaatively small length of pipework between them? Thanks. Nick

    Pipe sizing

Thanks for the answers Dave and Mark. The 4.5 hours turnover was based purely on what I'd read that turnover should be 4-6 hours for residential pools. I'll read the Pump Run Time Study. Cheers. Nick

    Pipe sizing

Hello all, Just trying to design the piping for a deck level indoor pool which has been partially built. A lot of the piping has already been laid but the only pipe which can't be changed is the 2 inch pipe from the main drain to the surge tank. Ultimately though, they will all be covered in...
