Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Sorry, been so busy but finally got the patch stuff and went out there over the weekend with Bob. Chief, the water at that point is around 5' deep since I drained down to the light niche and the delamination between the two plaster coats is on the bottom. The thing is, we are in the middle of...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Robert, thanks, I just saw your replies as they were on the next page. I had a pro electrician do all the new wiring from the house out to the pool. He put in a new upgraded main panel, a subpanel at the back of the house (for possible air conditioning system), and a subpanel out at the pool...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Thanks Chief for speaking to those other points that I brought up earlier, I appreciate your perspective on this. I think I have come around to the idea of not having a pool service. My sister may actually be able to monitor things over there and I can always double check. That solar setup is...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Thanks everyone. The subpanel is indeed grounded back to the main. I will need to read more closely through these replies. A99 of course the GFI and switch boxes are grounded back to the subpanel, what I mean was whether they each needed a metal wire of their own going straight into the...

Bumping to see if anyone is willing to have a crack at this. Heat wave here in San Diego. I'm going to get some #8 copper wire for the bonding and take it back to the subpanel. Also ground the subpanel. New pump etc. will also be bonded back to subpanel. That's my plan anyway. :D

Light installed today, a few questions if you would indulge me. -We found the bonding wire, here itis with some black electric tape and a yellow cap on it, otherwise you can see it is a solid copper wire. This photo also shows our new PVC conduit where it attaches to the old red brass conduit...

Waiting for my light to arrive, shipping from Ontario California so should get here tomorrow. Mom is out of town and only crazy sister is out there. I may run over there today just for a look as the water level is still dropped down to light level. I was running the pump and filter through...

Funny thought I had posted a reply but must not have clicked it through. Basically figured with the money saved from a semi DIY can afford to splurge on the light. Chris, saw your threads about your pool remodel. The equipment schematic will prove useful, I was asking about that earlier. I...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Just ordered the J&J from a company nearby, ie. in Southern California who will ship it out today. I finally decided on the Colorsplash model, as it was less than $100 more than the PureWhite 500W equivalent. The PureWhite can be put on a dimmer switch but the Colorsplash cannot. The...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

OK just figured out the difference in the SQ and regular: The one I pulled out of there, the face plate is ~10" and the center of the pilot hole is ~9/16" - 3/8" from the edge, so center to center catch tab to pilot hole should be ~9.25" - 9.375", that's pretty close to 9.5". I get it, the SQ...

Swimquip Swimquip Light Niche Housing Replacement Part Schematic Any idea what the term "current collector" refers to on the 120V housing pictured here ? This is on a SwimQuip. - - - Updated - - - The thing is, I called one of the places that had those J&J LED lights for sale and the guy...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Great idea. Found some plaster patch online, will consider taking the water down to do just that one larger area, I think they call it a delamination. Replastering is just too much $$ to lay at my mom's doorstep at this time and I think if I can get a decent patch that'd be satisfactory. Good...

http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/6850-Sanity-check-on-pool-light-bonding Here's a thread where a guy mentioned his metal niche was covered in plaster, up to 1/2" in places. That makes me wonder but I don't want to go aggressively chiseling away in there, hmmm . . . OK about doing the...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Just had an idea come to me amidst the confusion while driving to work this morning. Leave an inch or two of old brass conduit, attach bonding wire to it. We'll ask Mike the electrician for an opinion on this also, may he can come over for a look. Mom is out of town for the weekend, I may just...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

I will look for it, that is a great question. Not sure what exactly to look for and where but I will ask Bob and if need be we can consult with Mike. However, another factor I think I understand is that when metal conduit was used the bonding wire wasn't necessary as the conduit itself bonded...

Upgrade Of Pool Pump, System, Equipment

Have another couple of problems, will document now even though we want to address one thing at a time. The other ones: That jagged lip looking thing on the bottom is where it is as if a great big piece of plaster has "flaked" off the bottom. That line is about 10-12" long I'd say. Is there...

Here it is, just all plaster and cement on the pool side, there is the metal conduit, I think it is red brass, with the old light cord coming through it. Thanks Dave, yes I was getting a little confused with the two different green wires. So the light itself has a green ground wire but the...

Funny I just noticed that the LED I linked is also made/branded by SwimQuip. Way back when, that used to be a prominent brand here in Southern California. I had too much sun in the last few days and didn't feel like getting in the pool at noon to measure and examine the niche but I need to do...
