OK- I drained 1/3 water from the pool and it is just finished refilling. Ran a full set of tests and here is where I am at:
FC= 2
TC=2
CC=0
pH= 8.4 (didn't add acid yesterday)
TA= 220
CH= 380 (was hoping this would be lower)
CYA= 45
Plan is to go ahead and start working on the pH & TA using...
OK- just added a gallon of bleach, swept the whole pool. Didn't notice any other spots or discolorations. Scrubbed at the original spot with a puck and a wire brush- nothing happened. It is a dark reddish-brown spot. Could it be from the high CH level? Or some other mineral staining?
I think...
We originally has a SWCG when we first got the pool. It lasted about 3 years and the hard Phoenix water killed it. Of course I had not idea what I was doing back then and it would probably go better now if we reinstalled one!
I have no idea why the TA is so high! Have only added Bleach &...
Hi all-
I have been using TFP method for about 2 years now and have had the most beautiful pool ever... Until this summer! We traveled a total of 5 of the last 8 weeks and I have not had as much time to maintain my pool as I would like. We are back home now and went out to look things over...
Thanks pabeader. I think I am going to wait a few days- maybe test it on Monday or Tuesday. If I can stand to wait that long! :)
I am going to bring my FC up to 4 for now and see if it will hold. At this point should I worry about the TA being high and the CH being low?
Good morning! Yesterday I decided to purchase the granular CYA and did the sock method with 4lbs of CYA in the skimmer. With the gallon of liquid I added 2 days ago, I don't want to add anymore at this point until it will register on my test and I can see where I am at. The sock is almost...
Ok- so I am going to add another gallon of liquid stabilizer now and retest my CYA tomorrow. In the meantime for today, I will test FC every couple of hours and try to get it up to at least 5 (that's as high as I can test until I get my other kit). I will keep posting and asking for next steps...
Good Morning to anyone who is following my thread and helping me out! Here are the last few results:
Yesterday- (8/12)-
1600: FC= 1, pH= 7.8, added 2qts, 2c acid
1800: FC= 1, pH= 7.6, added 81 oz bleach
2000: FC= 3, pH= 7.6 (added...
1 1/2 hours later- FC down to 1. Thinking it is due to not enough CYA. But I am going to wait until tomorrow to retest that. Should I add more bleach? Or correct the pH now?
Ok friends! So I added the stabilizer- 1 gallon. I am going to give it 24 hours and test tomorrow evening. Just would rather take it slow. After 1 hour I added 1 gallon bleach and swept the whole pool. Jumped in at the end of sweeping to get a bit better under the waterfall. My eyes are kinda...
Added the liquid CYA and am waiting 1 hour. Meanwhile here are some pics of the pool! Hope it works!
You can actually see to the bottom of the deep end!
Thanks otter. So I should have bought more than 1 gallon. At $37.99! Yikes! I do have a bunch of pucks and shock and I put them away with the intent of NEVER using them again unless we are on vacation. But, should I put some pucks in a floater to help bring up my CYA? or should I just suck it up...
I will try to figure out how to post some pictures in a bit. :D The pool gets direct sun from about 10 am to 6pm.
Once I add the stabilizer (waiting for someone to confirm how much to add), I will wait 1 hour and then add 81oz bleach for my goal of FC 2 for now. Then I will wait an hour and add...
Back from pool store and replaced the broken O-ring on the backwash lever thingy. Now I am ready to turn on my pool pump! Just to clarify- before I add the stabilizer. I know my CYA is <30 but don't know if it is 0..... Pool Math tells me to add 95 oz if it is at 30, or 381oz if it is at 0...
So I am going to the dreaded pool store now. I should purchase LIQUID CYA and that is it? I already bought 12 gallons of bleach. Thanks! I don't mean to be a pain but I will probably be posting after each test- just to make sure I don't mess anything up! :)
Good Morning! Pool is full and I am ready to start! Test results from freshly filled pool with nothing added (except some leaves from the storm yesterday!):
FC: 0
TC: 0
CC: 0
Ph:7.8
TA: 160
CH: 230
CYA: <30 (I could see the black dot the whole time until the tube was completely full)
I have...
Sorry for the delated reply. Just got home from getting a tire replaced. So while I was out we had a HUGE random dust/rain storm and now the 1/4 full pool is full of dirt and leaves! YIKES! going to scoop out what I can once the storm blows over.
The test kit I got is a Taylor K-1005. It...
Good morning everyone and thanks in advance for your help! I have been lurking and reading for a few days. Have not ever posted on message boards but as I start this new adventure in pool care, I don't want to mess anything up!!
Here we go with some background! Pool built in 2006. Was...
